New OC Candidates

If CJF had the guts to go this route Bobby would ride in on his Harley and make the scoreboard light up like a pinball machine. Would be awesome.
No pinball machine his last few years at Louisville.

Only the last year really. He lost the locker room. CJF is the one who builds the culture so Bobby can just focus on figuring how to light up the OSU defense.

I dont hate the idea, but I sure hate that man. I think we can find someone nearly as talented without being morally bankrupt.

Based upon Franklin’s track record, I would think that it would have to be someone whom he worked with before, or someone another valued colleague could vouch for.
In that case, Franklin and Fleck are good friends, Ciarrocca would meet that seal of approval.

Good teams, lots of energy. At Washington too. I think they had some trouble though, just don’t recall details.

He got out of Colorado a few years before things went south. I think Barnett felt like Neuheisel created some of the mess that was there, but he was probably just pointing fingers at anyone given the way he was being tossed under the bus.

I don't recall whether anything was bad at Washington.

I know you say it jokingly and I’m not seriously suggesting it but I’d bet he could be had as a consultant pretty easily. He has no desire to work much but wants to coach some - look at the Orlando AAF team. Yes, I know he can’t coach as a consultant but he’d still be around the game and only have to work half the time.

The week after he resigned at South Carolina he was at Beaver Stadium for the Penn State game - still unsure of how that happened.

Fran Ganter?
There are a lot of really good offensive minds out there who currently occupy jobs lesser than the PSU OC job.

Steve Spurrier
Jim McMahon
Mike Martz
Scott Frost
Charlie Weis
Lou Holtz
Art Briles
Phil Jackson

We're limited only by our own imagination.

Well, he is 74 years old. So we could get one or two years from him?

Let’s keep the Brown pipeline going with James Perry the HC of Brown.

He is a former Brown QB and has his dream job it appears, but would be a huge raise for him.

it’s funny how a qb can make a coach look like a genius. How do you think Ryan Day would be viewed if he was starting Tate Martell this season.

Probably not the rosy cheeked super mannequin coach the media makes him out to be with Fields.

It's true. Although we poke fun at Jay - how would we remember him if Morelli had turned out to be another Dan Marino?

Chad Morris likely won't be on the board as looking like he is headed to Auburn as OC.

The rationale for Rahne was that he could run Moorehead's system and Franklin did not want to install a new system. If that is the case, who is out there familiar with Moorehead's concepts?

Need someone who can go to toe to toe with OSU and their killer instinct and who is able to make adjustments quickly. Have to think it will be someone with experience this time and someone who has had success developing QBs. Unless there are positional changes, but most OCs seem to be QB coaches as well.

Pulling Yurcich from OSU would be a great move, but doubt Day would let him go without a fight.

Moorehead is familiar and available.

I’ll throw a name out there. Doug Nussmeier, TE coach for the Dallas Cowboys. Tons of experience as an OC and QB coach, both pro and college. PSU currently recruiting his son Garrett as a QB.

Another name, Jake Moreland, OC from Western Michigan. Only knock is he’s only ever been at WMU. But his offense is ranked 2nd in the Mac and tight ends are very productive in his offense. Has a lot of experience as an OL coach and TE coach. Watch a YouTube video of him being interviewed. Seems very impressive

Nussmeier didn’t impress me at all at Michigan or Bama.

He is making 3.5 million a year and is not being fired. He is rumored to be getting an extension as well. He will be saying goodbye to at least 5 mil if he goes back to PSU voluntarily.

He'll get fired after next season. Guaranteed.

All their fans remember is that Mullen had them ranked #1 for five minutes.

Mike Leach (if he were to ever get fired). He could be OC and Chief Press Conference Delegate. That way Franklin wouldn't have to worry about stupid questions from the PSU beat writers.

Leach would eviscerate them before the B&W game.
Mike Leach? Great thinking!

Hey Mike, why don’t you come to be OC at Penn State?

Mike? Uh, Mike...

That is still 3.5 million x2 at least based on his contract. The man had made good money in the past but never anything approaching several million a year. You can’t walk away from possible generation wealth for your family. The guy may come back to PSU eventually but not until be actually gets fired.

Maybe it’s time for a new system? With a young team it would allow them a couple years to pick it up.
2020 has always been “the year.” Can’t mess around here. Needs to be a HR from the jump.

Is there any word on whether or not Rhane will stay to coach in the bowl game? I haven't seen anything on a timetable for the move to OD.
