NFL Commanders talking about changing the name back to "Redskins"

This isn’t real. Goodell was in Washington recently with ownership to discuss the new stadium that’s been in development for years. They are not going back to the old logo or name. The only thing this could possibly pertain to is still allowing old logo/name on throwback merch.

The Cleveland Indians Logo was kind of cringeworthy. It was more of an Indian caricature that reminded me of how they depicted Indians in old post WWII cartoons that I watched as a boy.

In hindsight perhaps they selected that logo to imitate those old cartoons and attract new young viewers back then.....
Yeah, way worse than Mr Red or Mr Met. Or the 60’s cartoon Pirate. Or the goofy looking Twins. Or the Padres Friar. How about the Brooklyn Dodgers Bums logo? This is all pure bullshit brought on by people who sincerely believe that Indians are inferior and that makes them uncomfortable when they see a cartoon caricature. The rest of us just see a cartoon caricature.

FWIW, I have no recollection of the Brooklyn Dodgers logo that you reference. As far as Mr. Red, Mr. Met, the Padre Friar or the goofy looking Twins logo, I have no strong memories of any of these team mascots or logos.

I grew up in a black and white era. Our TV and the newspapers that I read were all broadcast or published in black and white. The best opportunity that I had to observe any of the team's logos/mascots that you mentioned would have been on a baseball card.

Growing up in W PA, the only opportunity that we had to see professional baseball was the Saturday afternoon game of the week. The Pirates would broadcast a game most Sunday afternoons during the season. I much preferred attending a game ln person. The over the air broadcast were sometimes of dubious quality due to poor antennae reception.

The only reason that I recall the Indians logo and made the cartoon connection was because being from Pittsburgh, we had a natural geographic rivalry with Cleveland. And I was not fond of the cartoon that I associated with the old Indians logo.

I'm sure it was a 'state of the art' cartoon for its time. But that was because the existence of cartoons at that time in history was rare. IIRC, cartoons were 1st shown in theaters before featured movie or show.

I state the above to make the point that the old Indians logo that was designed to attract the youth of that era no longer serves that purpose. And to change a logo to symbolize the underlying reason for selecting who or what represents your team should not be denigrated for no or petty reasons.

Did you have a problem when Penn State went from the lion head to the 'chipmunk' style logo? Don't conflate changing a logo to changing the name of the team.

I’m only refuting the idea that the Indians logo was “cringeworthy.” It’s a cartoon caricature. Mr Red, the Padre Friar and the Minnesota Twins are all featured on versions of the actual game uniforms these teams wear today. You can look it up. You also have the current Milwaukee mascot Bernie Brewer who is basically a white Chief Wahoo with a mustache. No one seems outraged.
