No Singleton at practice today--anything to read into that?

They'll have to reload through the portal.

This team is dominated by 4*/5* athletes from the 6th ranked class of 2022 like Singleton, Shelton, Allar, Allen, Nelson, Durant, Carter, & Winston. Most of those guys will be gone next year and will have to be replaced by players from recruiting classes ranked around 15th. Hopefully we have a lot of players who perform better than their recruiting rankings next year but it looks to me like this year is our best chance.

FWIW next year we play at Iowa, at Ohio State, Nebraska (up and coming), and Oregon.
Allar may return if he has another so so year, we lose in our biggest games with him not performing great and not projected as a first rounder. That is not necessarily good news but could happen.

Although if Will Levis went that high than Allar could despite mediocre on-field results.

It better be this year.

Next year we probably lose Allar, Singleton, Allen, Fleming, Warren, Carter, Winston, Reed, King, and several OL & DL.
I am not convinced Allar will go. Right now, he is ranked #5 QB coming into the NFL draft by Mel Kiper. That would probably mean a late first round or second round pick. QBs rarely lose draft status for getting hurt and even if he did, could probably come back for a fifth year. And his family isn't poor. They don't need the short term money. He may be better off exhausting his college experience so he doesn't wash out at QB and grab that $200m second contract from an NFL team. with NIL, he'll still make a million $.

Grown men become high school drama queens over a player missing practice. Wow I have better things to worry about. Little clue here he either plays or he doesn't play on Saturday. All the hand wringing and outrage will not matter.
Obviously you dont' have better things to worry about, or you would be going them or spending time worrying about them instead of wasting time in this thread!!

Not true at all. Bumps and bruises would be just fine..>I'm not expecting the answer down to exact medical diagnosis. Saunders has had bumps and bruises and has been banged up...yet is still playing. But, from KJ and Nick, arguably the best players on each side of the ball, to be that vague and scoff at the media for asking, IMO is just petty. We can all disagree, but by no means is it stupid for them to ask what the status is of said players.
Yep, and Franklin had no problem telling us that Saunders had bumps and bruises and the rest of the story about his availability for punt returns.....

And that's Franklin's job--reload
We can't worry about teams like Iowa or Nebraska--that's a problem if/when we do

Pathetic thing here is he probably has a 4 year (maybe more) cushion of missing the playoffs before he is canned given his stupid contract. Unless all the billionaires on this board ante up about $50-$60 mill.
Are we currently 0-4 or 4-0?

I expect Allar to go but who knows? Every projection I've seen has him in the first or second round. He might not be a better college QB than Ward, Sanders, Beck, Ewers, etc. but it's difficult to teach 6'5" 238 lbs. I think the player with the best chance to return is Allen. He would be a later round pick but he could really impress as the primary guy next year.

I'd imagine he'll go pro. The NFL coaches will fall in love with his size and arm strength and will insist "I can fix him" even if he has a mediocre year he'll still get drafted quite high. But so far he's not having a mediocre year, he's looked pretty good. As you stated, the 2nd contract is the big one and going to the NFL now gets him to that contract one year earlier than waiting for another season.

He should be so lucky to last until later in the 1st and hopefully get snatched up by a better team looking to ease him in if he's playing the long game. Better than getting a bigger contract out of the draft and then proceeding to be thrown to the wolves, often with a crappy supporting cast.

RB's dont get drafted in round 1 anymore outside of a freak like Saquon, Kaytron will never be a #1 RB in the NFL and I think he knows that, he needs to get faster and work on his receiving skills to go above the 4th round.

James has put everything on himself he has shown he’s not a good game day coach, can’t beat anyone that has the same talent as his teams and than wants to play a kids game by saying maybe this kid won’t play this week and gives no good reasons why, just one pathetic coach

But i think RBs not getting draft as early now is exactly why Allen won't return. Get into the league regardless of when you're picked and get to that second contract.
Every kid is different and he may just simply want to come back but returning isn't likely to increase his draft stock to make up for the year of service time.

And Katron has already been in the PSU S&C program 3 years so it's unlikely he changes his speed going forward. He is who he is and he may want to just enjoy college is state College another year. If Singleton goes Allen would be paired with likely Martin and be another potent and complementary duo.

I know most believe Allar will leave, and that seems like a safe bet, but we may see him pull a Fashanu and stay another year and enjoy college as well.

There are a few "certainly loses" in there, and the others are "highly probable."

2025 may be a tough year.

I don't think Allen is going to get faster if he comes back for another year. He might get stronger and have better stats as the #1 RB.

My guess is that it will depend on this year vs next year expected competition in the draft. It might also depend on how much NIL he can get by staying.

Both sides of this argument seem pretty silly to me.
Franklin always seems to take on a bit of an arrogant tone when he responds to questions about player availability.
On the other hand, it’s his team and he can set any policy he likes. And he is pretty consistent on this policy.
I know writers want to report a scoop. But why would anyone else have a need to know if Smith is playing for Tech this weekend or if Jones is playing for State? We’ll all find out Saturday when the game starts. Nothing before opening kickoff matters.
I think Franklin’s “arrogance” may be the product of the media expecting a different answer after 10 years. And here we learn before the game that Singleton is fine and set to go today. My my.

LOL ok dude. Nobody on here said we are entitled to it. But, i'll tell you this, now in the age of NIL where players and coaches are openly asking for support so said player stays on the roster, fans feel more 'entitled' to info than in the old days, right or wrong. You may not agree, and that is perfectly fine. But, when JF misleads and really was murky about the Peach Bowl opt outs and then we get smoked, the fans reax was at an all time high regarding this issue. You don't think people who invest in the program, but now specifically into players NIL wallets have more skin in the game for information? This isn't the 80's anymore when the game was more pure and simple.

And, JF's baffled reaction to the media actually doing their job by asking for answers regarding Nick and KJ, arguably the two best players on the team, is just childish. They aren't asking about the backup snapper. He needs some self-awareness.
We should make these for the peach bowl

Except that Sanders is playing and the question was why is he fair catching everything. Geez.

Questionable means "unless needed." My interpretation. Good day for Martin to have his "coming out party" and rest Singleton...hopefully.

Martin on the KO return says Nick is on light duty if he plays at all.

No use using Martin on KO unless you plan to run him as well. Franklin wouldn't burn one of Martin's 4 games unless he was going to run him.
