Iowa vs Oklahoma State dual is Sunday. Huge interest to us PSU fans. Many matches should be really close. 149 & 157 are super intriguing. Any predictions ?

125: 1 Gilman vs 11 Piccininni

133: 1 C. Clark vs 5 K. Brock

141: 18 Carton vs 1 Heil

149: 2 Sorenson vs 3 Collica

157: 2 Kemerer vs 6 JoJo Smith

165: UNR Gunther vs 6 C. Rogers

174: 13 A. Meyer vs 5 Crutchmer

184: 6 S. Brooks vs 5. N. Boyd

197: UNR Wilcke vs 4 Weigel

285: 6 Stoll vs 9 Schafer

Predictions ?

I'm picking Kade Brock to upset Cory Clark at 133. Partially since Clark has been inactive for awhile and had a tough match vs Micic last week - and Kade Brock is really good obviously.

I'm picking Sammy Brooks over Nolan Boyd.

I wonder which JoJo Smith will show up.

I think is goes 16-15, Iowa, with the difference being Gilman's major.

In other news,
-- Per FLO, Brands is keeping the redshirt on Marinelli this year.
-- Dake is dropping back down to 74kg for 2017. Maybe he thinks Burroughs is on the back side of his fantastic career.

Think shirting Marinelli is smart with 165 being what it is. The talent is obvious to see but he gives up points like like he's got them to give. Easy to imagine him off the podium.

I expect super close-to-the-vest wrestling that will cause me to wonder why I bothered watching. If it isn't, I will be happily surprised.

Gilman dec Picc 3-0 Iowa
Brock dec Clark 3-3
Heil dec Carton 6-3 OSU
Sorenson dec Collica 6-6
Kemerer dec Smith 9-6 Iowa
Rodgers dec Gunther 9-9
Cutchmer dec Meyers 12-9 OSU
Boyd dec Brooks 15-9 OSU
Weigel dec Wilcke 18-9 OSU
Stoll dec Shaeffer 18-12 OSU

16-16, goes to criteria. Seriously, some great match-ups, and I hope Mrs. Roar allows me time to watch. Both teams will learn a lot about themselves, and where they are at this point in the season.

Dake/Dieringer ought to be fun, among others. Add in IMar, Hall, Marsteller, Massa and Nolf and there will be a whole new generation trying to avoid getting Daked, each with his own style.

Personally, I look forward to seeing Dake getting Hulked.

Meanwhile, back at 86 kg: this opens the door for David Taylor to beat out Cox for the Team USA spot ... and look at that, here come Morgan and Bo (and Zahid).

Prediction: Dake loses to Burroughs, then goes back up to 86 kg if Taylor wins the weight.

Okie State 17 - 16.
Gilman with bonus
Rogers with bonus
Weisel with bonus

The 2 Okie State bonus kids could each earn more than a major.

Collica getting by Sorenson would surprise me. Not being able to deal with Zain combined with a tendency to wrestle just enough to win sometimes diminishes a certain appreciation for the kid. He is tough as heck with exceptional handfighting skills and other than against Zain impossible to ride. I imagine Sorenson will beat Collica by a point or two. Of course he will beat him by a point or two every time

Fair assessment...I'm just a guy that can't ever say this guy will beat that guy 10 out of 10...Collica has a chance.

Owings beat Gable, Wade pinned Chatman, Donny Peters pinned Phil Mary just to name a few. So yeah a talented kid always has a chance, but if Collica wrestled Sorenson 20 times I would wager on Sorenson each time.

A lot of close matches there. Both 133 (Clark) and 157 (Smith) have wrestlers that have recently returned from injuries.

125-Gilman but I don't think any bonus 3-0 OSU
133-Brock 3-3
141-Heil, he should get bonus here but he won't 6-3 OSU
149-Sorensen 6-6
157-Kemmerer 9-6 Iowa
165-Rogers by major 10-9 OSU
174-Cruchtmer and I don't think it will be close 13-9 OSU
184-Boyd in a close one 16-9 OSU
197-Weigel by major 20-9
285-Stoll easily 20-12 OK State wins and Brands changes his mind about shirting Marinelli and petitions the NCAA for a 6th year for Burak.

Owings beat Gable, Wade pinned Chatman, Donny Peters pinned Phil Mary just to name a few. So yeah a talented kid always has a chance, but if Collica wrestled Sorenson 20 times I would wager on Sorenson each time.
Sequentially, sure. You'd be a fool to take a 50/50 bet on Sorenson to win 20 out of 20.

With Brands saying AMar is staying in RS.....Does this mean, the guy who relaxes with chainsaws, ok with the prospects of again not winning the NC? This is not to flame, just a question based in realities of the moment.

AMar or Young would score more points at 165 than the current option in my opinion. By not shirting Burak last year it left 197 exposed this year. In all fairness Burak may have just wanted to move on with life and refused a RS. Thats never been clear to me. If that is the case and he woke up one morning feeling that way, it would defintely mess with TnTs multiyear plans.

so you have 141, 165 & 197 as possible non scorers/non AQ. Going to the tourney with a high water mark of 7 scorers causes me to scratch my head, if your goal is to win the NC. Plus 2 guys returning from injury at 133 and HWT.

When I take all that data and then look at next year being a throw away year for Iowa due to graduation and recruiting gaps, it says to me TnT are comfortable enough in their skin to build to 2019/2020.....

Iowa 8+ years without a title, who would have thunk it. More to it they may not finish on the team podium this year under these realities. Next year they project not to either and may even fall out of the top 5.

Does this reality sink into a hot head senior who needs to fire up his team any way he can?

If the Pokes win as several of us think they will, does this change things in IC....indications are they wont. So I ask myself is the Iowa heads ok with not winning the NC? Or just victims of circumstance?

Burak stayed in IC this year to continue his education so I don't think him wanting to move on was the reason. I really don't understand why they didn't redshirt him for this year. Made a heck of a lot of sense even without hindsight.

In regard to Maranelli, I just don't think he is ready yet for 165. Sounds like he is a bit undersized and it showed against Valencia; He really was over matched. With how deep the weight class is, I think the point difference would be small if they did put him in the lineup.

Overall, this Iowa team looks a lot like the past several, Good, not great, and they have no room for error at NCAAs.

149- Sorenson dec Collica 7-6
157- JoJo dec Kemerer 7-9

184- Brooks dec Boyd 10-18
197- Weigel dec Wilcke 10-21
HWT- Stoll dec Schafer 13-21

Gilman's comments are pretty funny. Love the bravado but Iowa isn't some offensive juggernaut, lol. Think Rogers flattens Gunther at some point and 74/84 are split but I don't know which weights. Stoll could pin Schafer too. Either way expecting a Cowboys win
