I have been told what we will be seeing the next few days although the exact order is still a work in progress. We will definitely be visiting the Sonora Desert Museum, Mt. Lemmon Scenic Byway, and Mission San Xavier. A few other things, like the Pima Air & Space Museum and Old Tucson, are possible. We will only be here through Sunday so time is limited. I have also been promised lots of great food. The temperature is expected to reach 101° today, but by Sunday the high will only be 77°. There is a 0.000 chance of rain during our stay. With low humidity, and air conditioning, the hot weather has not been an issue for me, although the constant sun and clear skies is a difficult adjustment. More later.
- FRIDAY AM:
SPF 100? Wow. I had no idea it went that high. I generally get 30. I will check it out. Thanks!Sunblock my friend and sunglasses and a hat.

Thanks again. My wife is really looking forward to the Museum. She has about 500 pictures so far (really) of desert cacti, bushes, trees, flowers. She wanted to come West in the spring when she could see desert flowers and we have seen many.Yea I'm not sure if its over kill or not but I've been hiking in Joshua Tree, Anzo Borrega, Death Valley, White Sands and have not burned and I'm pretty fair skinned, so I keep using it.
Also Banana Boat makes a chapstick with sunscreen in it that is really good.
95% of the Sonoran Desert Museum is outside so be prepared.

Chief Redcloud! Is that Mike's nickname for his midsection appendage?SMOKE SIGNALS.....
I spent last night talking to an old Native American about smoke signals. I learned a lot and this morning, out my window, I can see actual smoke signals coming from New Mexico to the east. I am going to test my knowledge and translate while my breakfast is being cooked.

I looked at the weather for the next 14 days and on 13 of those 14 there is a 0.00% chance of rain. Only one day, next Tuesday, has any projected chance of precipitation, and that is a mere 20%. That is amazing. More later.
And beware of the Jumping Cholla, they are no joke. Trust me I have had an up close and personal experience with them.

Also if you looking for Gila Monsters, known in the area as just Monsters, most of them are on the Catalina Mt. Side of Tucson.
Apparently they are fairly rare but I was lucky enough to see one on one of my hikes.
RIVETING!My good friend saw one coming right down the hiking trail, by the old copper mines, outside Las Vegas a few years ago.
Came right at him with a nondiscriptive walk - like he was not moving for anybody moving for anybody! My friend backed up and jumped up on a 3' rock or so and he just went on past him.
On the campus of the University of Arizona. Nice enough. This is their Old Main. Quite a difference.
I don't know when you're planning on flying back to the 'Burgh, but if you don't take advantage of someFRIDAY AM:

"unnaturally beautiful" weather and spend a few days in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, something is very wrong.
Here is the weather forecast for Scottsdale/Phoenix after you are supposed to leave Tucson
Sunday: 72/54
Monday: 76/54
Tuesday: 72/57
Wednesday: 79/67
Thursday: 90/66
It's your vacation, but life only happens once and air reservations out of Las Vegas are easily changeable. Rules and plans were meant to be broken.
Right now we will drive back to Vegas Monday and fly out Monday night or Tuesday. Rules and plans were meant to be broken but Judges take absences more seriously and I must be in Court Thursday morning. As I've mentioned before, this is a trip for my wife. It's her relatives. She planned it. She is totally enjoying it. She is happy and that is enough for me. As an aside, Sunday is the 51st Anniversary of our 1st date. I remember it, and celebrate it, every year. I am a very lucky man.

I will tell the Judge I post here and then plead not guilty by reason of insanity. I am sure he will understand. You must be in court?
You think you'll have to do time fair?

That building looks surprised that its fountain could do that.On the campus of the University of Arizona. Nice enough. This is their Old Main. Quite a difference.
I'd trade them. I'll bet theirs isn't filled with a**holes. On the campus of the University of Arizona. Nice enough. This is their Old Main. Quite a difference.

This Sonoran Desert Museum is terrific. Saw Big Horn Sheep from 50 feet away. A baby Nig Horn was born 5 days ago. We watched it nurse. More later.

SATURDAY PM:
Back at home base. Spent time today in Saguaro National Park and at the Sonoran Desert Museum. Saguaro was great but the Desert Museum was one of the best parts of our whole trip. I mentioned the Big Horn Sheep exhibit earlier, but there was so much more. For example, we have Humming Birds in Pittsburgh, but they have a Humming Bird exhibit here where they fly about you and you can see them on a nest, feeding, or resting on a tree branch, all up close. There are lots of exhibits and all are exceptional. If you get to the Tucson area, this would be a "must see".
Tomorrow, keeping our Sunday road tradition, we start with Mass at a Byzantine Catholic Church in Tucson. The rest of the day is being planned and then Monday, we drive back to Vegas. This has been a great trip but I look foward to getting back to Pittsburgh were they have this thing called "rain". It's amazing. It falls from the sky, is free, and makes plants grow and turns grass green. Unfortunately I understand there is too much rain back East and there is flooding. Here I have not seen a drop the whole trip.
