Official fairgambit travel thread. FINAL THOUGHTS (Long)

WEDNESDAY PM Update:
Just returned to home base before heading out for supper. Red Rock Canyon was beautiful with certain areas being spectacular. We ate lunch at a place we found not far away called Bonnie Springs Ranch. They've got some Wild West stuff there, animals (including peacocks that roam around), a hotel.... but we just had lunch. I had a really good "Philly" cheese steak.
Then it was on to the Clark County Museum where "The Beard of Knowledge" from Pawn Stars hangs out. He was not there but I did have my picture taken with his cutout and it looks authentic. Admission is only $2, or only $1 if you are over 55. The Museum building is not that large and the exhibits were average, but they had a "Heritage Street" outside with historic homes that was excellent. You would walk into an actual home from 1912, or 1930, for example, and see it exactly as it was then. Many museums take you back hundreds of years, but few take you back 70, or 90, to see how your grandparents lived. It was extremely well done and I have never seen anything like it anywhere else. We then spent some driving around the Vegas area before heading back. A good day so far. More later.

A few questions for you
  1. Are these "in law relatives" with whom you're staying, older than you and wife?
  2. Are these same relatives averse to and offended by the "sins of Vegas" (wagering, alcohol)?
  3. Did your wife ever, in the course of planning this trip, ask you what you wanted to do?

You are TOTALLY missing tha Gambit's strategy. He has already planned a two week "boys only" trip to one of his favorite haunts that will resemble the movie The Hangover Prequel!

1. Younger, by a few years.
2. No. One worked in a casino for a time.
3. Yes. We both expected to do some gambling. We each set aside money for it. So far it just hasn't worked out. I think it will but it won't bother me much if it doesn't.

Have fun. I did.
Trust me try the Sonoran Desert Museum. You wont be disappointed.
Also maybe the best Tamale I've ever had was at El Charro Cafe.
Thats a nice temp. perfect for hiking and biking, remember its a dry heat. ;)
All kidding aside I've been there at those temps and if there is a breeze its pretty pleasant.
And hey if it gets too hot you are in one of the best places for a cool refreshing Margarita. :D
One last thing and I know this trip has pretty much been planned out for you but if you get the chance.
Sunset at Gates Pass in awesome.

Cinco de Mayo should be fun in Tucson, AZ. Probably could swim in a margarita there.

Thursday PM.
I am at my wife's in law (female cousin) about 30 miles North of Tucson. The drive down from Vegas took almost 7 hours, primarily because we'd be cruising at 90 mph and my wife would suddenly yell STOP THE CAR AND PULL OVER!!! and I would pull over and she would jump out and take a picture of a cactus, or a Joshua Tree.
The house here is beautiful. The cousin has traveled the world and has a lot of really great stuff from Peru, Vietnam, Eastern Europe, India.....
This actually has been a very good trip except for my not gambling in Vegas and I'm OK with that. I may get another chance when we return to Vegas Monday.

SMOKE SIGNALS.....
I spent last night talking to an old Native American about smoke signals. I learned a lot and this morning, out my window, I can see actual smoke signals coming from New Mexico to the east. I am going to test my knowledge and translate while my breakfast is being cooked.

Did you:

Go to Freemont Street yet?

Have a giant .99 hot dog?

Do the night time helo ride?

Play any craps?

Do any buffets?
No to all, but we really are having a great time. We've spent a lot of time seeing sites like the Grand Canyon, Boulder Dam, Red Rock Canyon, Joshua Tree Scenic Road... There have been a lot of great suggestions given here and I pass them on, but time is limited, so many will be missed.
