Official Pitt - Penn State Game Thread...

Game after game after game, the OL seems to struggle to protect our QB. And we just can’t get any pressure on the other team’s Q. What is going on...

It's more likely that our D will play better than the O in the second half. The O is broken.

It continues to be obvious that schemes and gameday coaching hold this team back. Why is everyone griping about it as if this is not well known?

This program, as constructed, is a recruiting pure play. They attempt to stack the talent and rely on that to win. It’s why they lose to OSU, MSU and other better programs consistently.

It is what it is.
Post of the year. Well said.

I remember the dark ages, when we were told getting skill/speed (like DWill.), would resolve the OL problems and it did for the most part.

So what is the fix now?

As they say, the first possession of the 3rd quarter is often the most important. That seems especially true today.

I look for some schemes to pressure Pickett and a turnover or two as a result.

Rahne will find a play or two to free up Our skill people for two or more big plays. Freiermuth will contribute as well.

We pull away to a 27-17 win.

Does Penn State have a single play to combat the DL just teeing off every play? Screen, delay handoff? Guess JoMo didn't leave one of those behind...

JoMo didn’t have any answers in those situations either. I can’t believe they didn’t think about that all off-season. How to combat the DL tee-ing off, per usual. It’s the same shit, again.

JoMo is winning 20-17 vs KState. He's not looking like a guru. However, I think the idea behind his scheme was lost in the teaching. Rahne basically has a playbook and is just calling shit like a video game. I'd probably rather he created his own playbook than carry one that he doesn't understand or know how to use.

This is just horrific. ...remember 12-0? This would be one thousand times worse with the shit eaters from Pitt.

I'll take a "409" as a triple and the barmaid above can stand in front of my t.v. screen for the rest of the game.....

If the DE's can't get to the quarterback they could at least get in the passing lanes and get their hands up. Anything is better than getting sucked into the wash.

If I remember correct OSU was also one of the youngest teams in the country a few years ago, but could still play like an elite... of course, consistent top 3 recruiting classes are better than top 20...

Dabo Swinney said it best. His goal is to dominate everyone they play regardless of who is on the field against them. This game so far isn't what a champion looks like. Win or lose this simply isn't good enough especially after last week against Buffalo. We can bash the assistant coaches all we want but that all falls on Franklin. Not saying "Fire Franklin" but he needs to make some significant changes after this season barring huge improvement.

Someone else mention having to replace Trace, Saquon/Sanders, Godwin, Gesicki, etc. That's normal. That's what elite teams do. This is why we aren't elite. We do "miss a beat" when changes occur.

The difference is that franklin will fire people the day after the season ends. Which is refreshing. He is aware. Corley is a volunteer assistant (unpaid!) this year in Texas.

We're going to learn how tough Cliff is this half. He's been beaten up the first half. Seems a little gun shy of the pass rush. Needs to keep his eyes downfield. RR needs to get the ball out of his hand quickly and or roll him out occasionally or this may not be pretty. Our rbs need to block. Blocking can be a problem with smaller backs. Lack the physicality.

Will he fire enough people and the right people. The jury is out on that.
