Technically his goal and assist came on the PP so he could have been a -4. Obviously he wasn't but stating "if a player scores a goal, and his whole team gives up 4, that player can not be a -4" is completely false.

From the NFL web site:

Plus-Minus

A player is awarded a "plus" each time he is on the ice when his Club scores an even-strength or shorthanded goal. He receives a "minus" if he is on the ice for an even-strength or shorthanded goal scored by the opposing Club. The difference in these numbers is considered the player's "plus-minus" statistic.

Yep, thanks for the correction. Shorthanded goals count, but not PP goals.

So according to the NHL, even strength and power play goals are both counted for +/- .
So if he scored a goal, he could not be -4 in a game the opponent scores a total of 4 goals.
Read what you quoted again

I'll dumb it down further....does it say they are awarded a plus when their club scores a powerplay goal?

Sully clearly ripped them a new one after the Rangers game. Apparently Geno's very, very important to this team. Hopefully Teddy, Carter and Kap keep producing.

Pens are playing good hockey and have been for a while.

went to caps devs the other night for backstroke 1000 point commemoration. When he scored to make it 3-2, there was huge applause, then one person threw a commemorative squeeze ball onto the ice, which in moments turned into hundreds of them on the ice. Ice crew and players from both teams came out to clean them up, which was pretty damn funny.

The Rangers deadline moves definitely made them a better team than the Pens. Rakell was a nice add but not enough.

I hate your more than hate itself! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

The Pens will rise like the Phoenix!!!

Those Rangers are good and playing with sooooo much confidence.

They will be a tough out but I remain confident that my Pens can beat them in a series.
My negative mojo did not work last night. 🤬

It is his final year on this contract. He has a full no movement clause in his contract, so maybe zero if he doesn’t want to leave. Plus coming off major knee surgery, what is the expected return in the trade? I’d suspect it depends on how contract extension talks look too (among many other factors). The Pens would be stupid to pay him $9.5 million per year going forward. It’s also the final year for Rust and Letang. And Kapanen is a RFA after this season as well. Need some cap space.

Pens beat Islanders tonight 6 - 3.

Make play-offs for the 16 straight year!!

MJG where are you??

I mean, it's great that they make the playoffs but a first round exit doesn't make me feel good. Would rather get a higher draft pick at this point.

Letang is possibly, perhaps likely, viewed a little differently than Malkin by new management. Letang is in marvelous shape and his minutes (he played 30 mins in a recent exhibition game!) are hard to replace. He is rare in that regard and his game is actually becoming more calculating and consistent. Malkin has never been a workout warrior and injuries and his refusal to adapt to a more conservative style of play will make him more likely to move on.
