Ohio State deserves to be favored--but we have a real shot

Since Urban got there they have always taken the tactic of step on the opponents throat and don't let up--no mercy and run up the score. They have done that this year and they are an outstanding team--but has anyone punched them in the mouth (figuratively). Have they run a gamut of games like the last 5 teams we just played in a row. Michigan State was supposed to be a tough team--OSU beat them at home by 24--we beat them on the road by 21. And MSU gave them a battle until near the end of the first half. That was followed by a weak Northwestern and after that a thrashing of Wisky--but then MD and Rutgers--so are they very good-sure, but not as tested as some believe. If we go in and play our best and Rahne doesn't totally screw up the play calling we have a shot.

Look what OSU did to Indiana on the road —6 TD beatdown while pulling the 1sr string entire second half. Compare with a 1 TD W @ home. Enough said.

I hear what you're saying but it's all about matchups and I think PSU matches up with OSU better than anyone else in the conference - speedwise. The one big concern for PSU is their DBs against the OSU receivers. If the DBs can play somewhat consistent throughout the game, PSU has a good shot. I'm standing by my earlier call: PSU 27, OSU 24.

Of course we have a shot, but the way our D is playing i think it will be a LOOOONG Day. We are the best team that they will play all year until and if they get to the Playoffs, but i think they are too much. I really hope I'm wrong

Agree with your assessment that PSU matches up well typically with OSU—- but this is by far not even close to the typical OSU team —no weaknesses at all. 3 deep in all positions (except QB)— Fields Dobbins Teague Olave KJ Hill TE and OLine represent the best O in 50 years. And the D — Chase Young and company on the line along with LB and CB and S positions all world. And all the bone starters average 2 plus Q per game for all 10 games.
Now that said I am also not too naive to believe this game could well end up close with even PSU winning it. But I am not betting my house on that.

I know that--but it was also very early in the year. I ha ve no issue with them being favored, but my point is they haven't been challenged--they will run into 3 challenging games in a row for the first time (maybe 4)--us, Mich, Bowl game and maybe big Ten title. They will have an opportunity to prove they're great but for the first time they will play multiple good teams consecutively.

If we win the turnover battle.......and we suddenly re-learn how to tackle, we have a legitimate shot. Short of this, we got trouble. JMO

A real shot? We have virtually no shot. Ohio State is simply better...a lot better. They will be in the National Championship final and I expect them to win it all. There is no shame in losing to a team like that. I just hope we play well and keep the score respectable.

That's why they play the games !

You are so negative.....or so will claim the resident Pollyanna's on this board. :)

Unless PSU can somehow rediscover their lost tackling ability along with correcting a host of other defensive problems, this game is going to be over at the end of the 1st Half.

If it gets too out of control, I'd actually give Levis and some of the other young QB's a chance to play.

There is no way I am negative. I am positive we will lose. :)

We have a shot, but have to play better that we have been. Need to win turnovers, penalties, big plays, and TOP.

Tall order. Speedy receivers, great back and a QB who can run and throw. It could get ugly fast.

Here's a scenario that could happen...enjoy
With lots of attention to Chase Young and OSU irregularities, Fields decides it might be a good idea to attend his fist class in person. He does this on Monday
An OSU student make a remark that he finds insensitive
Consistent with his Snowflake reaction st GA, he decides to put his name in the transfer portal on Tuesday
HARBAUGH contacts him on transferring to UM promising a sleepover to comfort him
OSU is unsuccessful is changing his mind and he does not suit up for the OSU game
OSU wins the game in a blowout :):):)o_O

I like your enthusiasm, and if things fall right, we have a chance. Template is same as Minnesota, get on board early, take Ohio State out of its rhythm and game. Unfortunately, we did not do that in Minnesota. Being on the road does not help us. I agree we are more battle tested, but would that mean they are fresher, double-edged sword.
Hoping for the best, bracing for the worst.

If you’re talking shots, I’ll have a double of whatever you are drinking at noon Saturday.
Nothing is impossible, but the OL vs DL matchups heavily favor OSU both ways. And that is where games are decided.
I fear a long game. Hopefully, the good guys play hard start to finish.

I'm not calling a PSU win, but I agree we have a shot. It's been a long time since we've been the underdog, sometimes that's a much easier way to go into a game. Hopefully, we'll play loose and aggressively.

Well said. Remember when Saban took over Alabama in 2007? He really focused on recruiting the very best DT and DE in the country. After losing to a very mature Utah team in 2008 he was interviewed and said we need for our D-line to control the line of scrimmage. At that time he played a 3-4 defense that was good. In 2009 that D-Line was great and he won a NC by beating Texas. At the time everyone was recruiting speed, speed and more speed, not Saban he recruited size and brute strength.

There is no reason for this team to not go out there and compete. none. They may not win, but there is no reason to go out there and act like Rutgers. Wisconsin was competitive into the 3rd qtr in Columbus. Penn State has the players to compete as well.

I'm trying to stay positive about this, which is why I kind of agree with what you're saying.

Playing Penn State is an ASTRONOMICAL step up from having your way with Rutgers and Maryland. We actually have athletes that can play some football. BUT...... our secondary has been abused and embarrassed the last two weeks like a bunch of little grade school kids. Our tackling has sucked. We have looked EXTREMELY slow in pass defense. We have gotten next to no rush on the QB the last few games.

Add to that, we haven't faced a true, quality mobile QB all year. And we only have two receivers we can rely on. This looks like an absolute disaster waiting to happen....BUT....like I said.....will Ohio State look as dominant against us as they did against two teams that can't walk and chew gum at the same time??? That's the question. We will see.

They put their jocks on the same way we do, and they are human. If you smack them in the mouth hard enough, they will hurt just like anyone else. Just ask 1986 Miami. We should take NO prisoners in this game, and let them know they are in a physical war. If someone gets ejected, so be it. As long as it's not dirty, and ends at the whistle. I want Fields to hurt, and hurt bad by the time this game is over. Not INJURED. Just beat to living crap!!!!!

Win or lose, I want us to make Justin Fields so sore he'll want to quit football by the time this game is over.

Wolve won't like this, but while we have virtually no shot at winning this week, Michigan has a REAL shot the following week at Ann arbor. Take a look in the past few years how Ohio State looks the week, or 2 weeks, after beating psu. Hey wolves, remember 1969? I see many similar aspects to that year and this year.

Ohio State will win handily this week and then lose in Ann arbor. Write it down.

Hell no, Michigan will lose as usual

I guess there is no point in playing the game then, huh. Fortunately neither Franklin nor the players feel like you do.

Of course we play the game. We are contractually obligated. Neither of us knows how Franklin or the players feel. When viewing film Franklin may be saying to himself, "Oh shit. This could get ugly."
No objective observer is giving us much of a chance to win and the reasons are obvious. Can we win? Sure. I can win the Powerball too, but I have a better chance of being struck by lightning. We have a good team but OSU is simply better and we play them on the road. I will expect the worst and hope for a miracle.

Well I can guarantee you Franklin isn’t saying oh shit. Only misinformed armchair quarterbacks do.

WOW! The board sounds extremely pessimistic. Maybe we can come up with some trick plays and blow them away. I hope CJF reads this.:D

Ohio State still has Dobbins. He won’t go away.
