Ohio State dual thread - Feb 14

Most notable to me is that Facundo won't be the guy at 157 this weekend. You'd think he would have held the weight in case of something like this. Sealey was brought up briefly but that ain't happening (even though he gets five dates and hasn't used any)

I wonder if Facundo has told the coaching staff he's going to enter the portal.

That would have been a helluva hold. He was 180 post practice still in October and as lean as Levi.

Evans or Pierce bumps up?

The only other 157 on the roster is true freshman Ty Watson.
I would guess it'll be Pierce. Evans hasn't wrestled at all, so I'm not sure what's up with him.
My guess is Facundo will try to get a medical redshirt. It’s unlikely, but the NCAA hands them out like Halloween candy, so why not? Wrestling on Friday would eliminate his chances, so no reason to wrestle Facundo at this point.
I'm sure Cael is going to do him a solid and play up the injury to spare him a year of eligibility for wherever he goes.

Evans had been able to make 141, and Pierce has done okay at 149. Would have thought Pierce, but Cael mentioning Evans seems like there may be a split. I almost felt like Cael is kinda relieved he can send somebody besides Tyler against Sammy, as weird as that sounds.

I don't really think it matters too much and Tyler will be fine for tournament time and he'll beat who he needs to beat, but seeding does matter and can help almost anyone (even someone who is the overwhelming favorite at a given weight). Had he been able to continue and beat Miller (I'm convinced he would have), it would have been a "good win" for him. I think the odds of Sasso beating him were probably next to nothing, but again, that would have been considered a "good win". Meh, as I said, he'll get it done at tournament time regardless of his seed.

Cannon got that start last week. He has a win over Chittum this year. Sammy and Cannon will hit an open to decide the spot . Sad watching Sammy compete at 50% I think in the future we see him back to top form in freestyle. He just didn't have the time to heal up enough before the college season. My guess is we see Cannon at Big 10s

I'm in agreement with Cael about guys flexing on Sammy after they beat him. Very low class on their part. I also agree it's a miracle he can compete at this level, with what he endured.

Sealey is certified and on the roster so he can’t grey shirt. He is or was enrolled. He’d need to get a medical for this year which who knows if he’s injured at all or not.

I assume he means he’ll take next year and this year off, regular RS next year and medical this year.
I don't believe that is possible, usually a Med RS is only available when a guy already burned his RS that season or used it in a past season. But with the way it is now who knows maybe they will just give everyone 2 redshirts to use whenever they want

Evans has fought amateur MMA fights on 10/26 and 1/25 this season (wins by 1st round submission and 1st round KO). Both were at 145. No doubt he can make 157. And he is on the roster. But clearly his focus has changed from open tourneys to MMA.

Steiber breaks down the bucknut performance last weekend. Praises Mendez for digging deep and beating an opponent in OT he was supposed to get bonus on. Said “A lot of guys lose that match, I’ve lost that match.”.

Yep, sure did.

To be fair, Lougie did lose that match. To a freshman who became a 4 time AA, a 3 time NCAA champion, a world gold medalist and an Olympian.

In years past, Evans would been well suited for the dual meet with Rutgers.

Edit - I see that El Jefe beat me to it. This one was just too easy.

Maybe this was the source of the announcer’s confusion during the Maryland dual.

My guess is a 149 bump up to 157. Not sure Sealey can comfortably make 157 and even if he can, having him spend time to make a cut when he missed valuable practice time already doesn't make sense.

Is Davis wrestling tomorrow?
Quoting Cael:
"There's different kinds of injuries," coach Cael Sanderson told reporters Tuesday in State College when asked about Davis.

"There's season-ending injuries, there's things that are going to be a nuisance for him at the nationals like Carter (Starocci) dealt with at nationals last year. But we don't have what we feel like is anything like that. There's a good chance he'll wrestle this week, and there's a chance he won't wrestle this week."

Clear as mud. Thanks.
