Ohio State vs NC State

I agree. PSU is a bonus machine. I was just showing that Iowa has bonused over half their matches so far this year, trying to use facts to show opinions aren’t always accurate. Enough posters claim only Spencer is our true bonus point wrestler and this proves that is false. In fact only 3 starters are under 50%. Bowman, Wilcke, and Costello. Two of those guys are back ups and Wilcke is who he is, the most frustrating guy on the team

I love watching all of the best teams and also the teams that are not at that level. We need the best teams to wrestle each other on a yearly basis. The National Duals that were held at UNI was my very favorite event to attend in person every year. I don't want to have them determine the team champion as I prefer the March tournament for that, but for simple fan enjoyment they were amazing. I wish the power coaches could agree on some format to bring this back and rotate location.

Yeah that paper tiger just beat the #4 team in the country 26-10. Horrible showing. Should have been 29-7 too .

If we are playing "should have", I will actually take it the other direction and say it "Should have been closer". Nelson really should have been able to hold on there and get the win and I believe Wilson was going to win that last match. You take those two matches and it is all of a sudden 17-16 or 17-17. Of course none of my "should have" thoughts matter because none of that happened.

Ok the score was 26-10.... period. That is a fact, no conjecture. That’s the score that will forever remain in the book.

Is that better?

If that makes you happy. I think this season Penn State is at a completely different level this season and Ohio State is much closer to teams 3 - 5 whereas last season they were on a completely different level and same group as us.

I actually agree with that. Just not the paper tiger take. I think Ohio State just showed they were the legit #2 team in the country with their performance against the #4 team in the country. That’s all I’m saying, this has ZERO to do with anything comparative or relative to Penn State. You guys are a clearly ahead of everyone else.

That would really surprise me. Heinselman did not look ready at Midlands.
I agree he's not ready, he needs to get bigger and stronger, he's undersized. It would be stupid to pull his rs this year honestly.

At midlands his drew Spencer in his first match, so i don't think that's the best measuring stick. Not sure what he did on the back end though

Losing to Lee, no big deal.

Getting pinned on a tilt ... no varsity HS wrestler should allow that.

I think everyone feels that way. I don't think anyone thinks that OSU didn't fall back to the pack after losing 3 4x all-americans 2 of which were national champions. Is there some sort of buzz out there that they are just as good as last year? The gap between PSU and whoever is the 2nd best team whether that be OSU, Mich, Iowa, or Okie state is not that close.

To be fair, it was an absolute touch-fall. Camera had a great angle--it was less than half a second between the shoulders touching and the ref slapping the mat.

Clearly ahead of everybody not named PSU? Thumping NCST, a tough team but not really the top tier (at least not yet), is not really the victory that establishes the Bucknuts team numero dos.

The Cowboys are a legitimate number 2 also.

That is how I saw it as well. MH was wrestling hard and looks like he will be a good one once he gains more size/power. I love his quickness.

As far as Bucknuts maybe looking slow, keep in mind there are matches the Lions look sluggish and a little sloppy. Almost every time the Lions look sluggish it is training related.

Who is Nelson?

It happened in the PIAA state finals around 8 years ago.
IIRC Nick Roberts won that match. Doesn't excuse it, though.

We can say it was a quick call and maybe it was -- but still, that wasn't a roll through.

I think it's close but after watching the Cowboys at the Scuffle, I think they're just a notch ahead of tOSU. In a hypothetical dual I have OSU winning 19-12.

125 Picc DEC Heinselman, 3-0, possibly by major
133 Fix DEC Pletcher, 6-0, toss-up but I lean Fix
141 McKenna DEC Brock, 6-3
149 Gfeller DEC Micah, 9-3, another toss-up but I lean Gfeller
157 Hayes DEC Shomers, 9-6
165 Rogers DEC Romero, 12-6
174 Joe Smith MD E Smith, 16-6
184 Martin DEC Jacobe Smith, 16-9
197 Moore DEC Geer, 16-12
HWT White DEC Singletary, 19-12

I see them as mostly close decisions with the exception of 174, meaning that tOSU would need to take both toss-ups to win. Dual success doesn't necessarily equate to tournament success but I think OSU has an edge there too. I'd say OSU has 9 legit AA candidates (I left Shomers off that list) and will probably send the entire team to Pittsburgh. tOSU will have trouble getting half their lineup onto the podium--125, 157, 165, 174, and HWT.

I agree with you JPW. I always really enjoyed the National Duals and was sorry when that early-mid January tournament stopped. I also don't want them to determine the national team championship, but it sure was fun from the fan viewpoint. I realize that there are a lot of factors including scheduling and # of matches prior to the NCAA's, but if it could ever work schedule-wise and NCAA prep-wise, I would be very happy!

It was 2-2. Wilson got the opening TD followed by an escape. Pletcher escaped in the 2nd period and in the process Wilson was injured.

He also got pinned in the consis after winning a couple matches.

If you went with more recent history it should be Hockeyville USA.
Oh wow forgot about that. It was nice the town was chosen. Let's face it, since all the steel mills went bye bye this area really doesn't have much going for it. The movies made here was a great representation of reality here.

again nice work.

Will be interesting to look back after nationals at how that a) carried over the season and b) went after midlands. Just to see what it looks like when we hit the grind and better parts of our schedules.
I will try to remember to run the numbers again after dual season, prior to the Big 10 tourney. Should be interesting.

Before Christmas we were in the area for a Gymnastics meet. Downtown Johnstown lacks much, but Conemaugh is still top notch and there are nice and what appear to be economically diverse areas around Johnstown.

I DVD'd it too, and watched it later. I've taken to routinely taping the next show after the sporting event I want to tape--missed too many end of matches/games!

Heinselman going now in Indiana dual. Redshirt pulled

Beats Oliver 3-2
