Ohio State

Do any of you have any idea of how current PSU students feel about being in the B1G? It's obvious most of you hate it, but how do the current students feel about it? I had a good friend from PSU in b-school, who wrestled while he was at PSU, who had no problems with being in the B1G.

"Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL classes are POINTLESS,"

Even if they live in Ohio that doesn't make it any better because there are a lot of other schools in Ohio, so why not root for the one that's in the area you live in? But they don't do that, they cheer for OSU because they win the most and that's the very definition of a bandwagon fan.

Ohio residents root for Tosu because the Browns and Bengals aren't winners.

Similarly, the state of Michigan has a lot of Wal-Mart wolverines because the Lions are a joke.

It's incredible how Meyer hasn't had one problem with his health and heart issues since leaving Sunny Florida for Ohio.
Not one problem...
What does that have to do with the simple fact that Urban is the top coach in CFB and just happens to be unbeaten against PSU?

For me, it is that O$U is one of the poster children of what college football has become. Don't even pretend you have student-athletes and just win however you can by as many points as possible no matter how overmatched your opponent is. Basically it is lack of sportsmanship and not teaching the boys coming in how to become men of honor. Over signing, illegal benefits and "processing" are what now defines successful programs.

And O$U is far from the only school doing this. What sealed it for me was my nephew (a recent O$U graduate) confirming all of this by telling me the players are there for only one reason ... win games.

I don't respect Tosu for any number of reasons, but something that stands out to me is that joke of a press conference that jim tressel, gene smith, and gordon gee had before the Sugar Bowl to discuss the tattoo/gold pants scandal. tressel sat there silent while smith and gee lied about when tressel first learned of this players' transgressions. On top of that, when gee was asked if he might fire tressel, gee responded, "I hope he doesn't fire me!" Just another clear indication that the tail wags the dog at Tosu. Of course, tressel was eventually fired, but somehow smith and gee survived. (gee was later removed after one too many instances of foot-in-mouth disease.)

Related to the above scandal, Tosu's players were suspended not for the Sugar Bowl, but for the first few games the next season. Somehow, this was just fine with smith and gee.

Also, tressel was invited back to a game at Tosu for a 10th-anniversary celebration of the 2003 national championship team. tressel, a cheater and liar who got fired, was given a standing ovation and was lifted on the shoulders of former players.

Pathetic.

Please take this opportunity to remember that Penn State has a culture problem.

Tennisbuck,
I live in a small town in NW Ohio that is split in the 50/40/10 range for O$/UM/Other schools. Come to town and ask for the Penn State fan, and likely you'll get three names, but of our 4,500 population, we have about a dozen Nittany Lion fans.
I would take up to much board space to give you all of my own personal stories as to why I refer to the school in Columbass as ohowihate.
I'll go back to Adam Telifaro's injury and the immediate pass at his back up while taking a knee by Cooper probably would have finished the game. I can't recall all the details. I greatly respect what the medical staff at the university did that day.
2005 when I sat in the most electric crowd I've ever been in, came back to my school to teach, and had a fellow teacher tell me - and I quote "if that game would have been played at a neutral site, we would have won. And, we have not played a night game all year." No congratulations or just shut his mouth; just excuses.
In the down years in the early 2000's, he would come in a meow on Monday mornings. Nice classy fan.
When Michigan beat PS 7 games in a row, UM fans offered encouragement, telling me to hang in there, they like PS and Joe Paterno. NEVER, EVER would an o$ fan offer any type of conversation close to that. NEVER. (and, if you reply, I know what you'll type, so save it).
Where do you want me to go with "Joe knew"? I won't even tread in those waters. But, trust me, I have reminded those ignorant-unable-to-read-facts-blowhards about the fact they told me EVERYONE WHO EVER WAS INVOLVED WITH THE PROGRAM KNEW, that Larry Johnson and Greg Schiano are now on your staff. I'll brag a bit here. I know Larry Johnson and talked to him after the sh*t storm hit. He said they all had no idea this was going on.

I have kept this reply short. I have not even touched on the officiating bias that goes back to Hank Zaborniak giving Hartsock the catch on o$'s drive. You know Hank, right? Two years ago I watched him received an award from OH HS FB coaches for his service as the OHSAA head of officials. Yep, guy lives in columbass, likely with great connections to the university, and officiates an ohowihate/Penn State game. Find the thread on this Board about history repeating itself. Good video for you to watch.

Your fan base is arrogant. You did not hang the moon. You have not cured cancer. Yet your fan base is obnoxious and not appreciated. This morning I was asked how I liked last night's game by a guy at Church. Told him I liked Herbstreit - you know the one who moved out of Columbass because he didn't smooch the butt of the athletic department and stayed neutral and the people of that fair city harassed him till he left - the o$ grad and letterman - yea, that Herbstreit. The person at Church says they should leave the penalty calling to the refs and just announce. When I suggested that he look at the multiple holding callls, he walked away. Arrogance. Ignorance.

Oh, and I'll take UM's band and fight song over your university's any day.

There, I have given you a Reader's Digest condensed version as to why I do not like 90% of your fan base. God Bless Artie Short, Glenn Badenhop and Jim and Jane Stevens. They graduated or are big supporters of that school in columbass and are friends of mine here in Archbold, OH who have class.

BTW, You coming on here and asking such a dumb question, speaks volumes about my arrogance/ignorance statement.

Glad you asked?

OL
Hey pal
You have too much time on your hands--- hope you get to see your team get handled Sat night in person.

An Ohio State fan who has over 10,000 posts on a Penn State board is telling someone else that they have too much time on their hands?? lol
Enjoyable to read all the posts about officiating. Do you guys really believe that you lose so many game because of biased officiating ??

I don't think we "hate" ohio state as much as you think we do. Ohio State is the top of the Big Ten and we compete for the same recruits, so we very much want to beat you and many would like to see you fall from atop the league standings, even if it's not at the hands of Penn State. Compare this to the "hate" that some Penn State fans have towards Pitt, I would say that it's not really personal... just rooting against the best in the league. There is also a feeling by Penn State fans and other fans in the league, that the league is out to protect the "big two and little eight" status, even though it would be big two and little twelve, actually. Because of this, I would say that everything else being equal, most fans of Big Ten teams other than Ohio State and Michigan will always root against Ohio State and Michigan.
Pitt is the best in the ACC?

Map,
First, please don't refer to me as "pal". As I stated in my post, the three people I listed are my o$u friends. Likely, you and I would not exchange Christmas cards or Holiday pleasantries.
Second, over 10,000 posts, and as stated by Lion8286, you are telling me I have too much time on my hands?! I have just under 2,500 posts. And, what you say must be very well received as you have 8 likes in all those posts. Ya, I'll leave it at that.

Clarification, no, I never said the officiating was the reason Penn State has lost to the o$u. It's been bad when the two play, but no place do you read me saying officiating costs PS games. Please don't put words in my posts.

But, if you want to pick and choose parts of my post to reply to, please speak to the "everyone there (at Penn State football) had to know" about Jerry Sandusky. However, once two of those coaches wear the red and grey, there's a lot of silence. I know John Thomas and he is a personal friend. He was at Penn State from 1993-2012 as strength and conditioning coach. He has two boys who spent time with Jerry. Other coaches permitted their sons to hang out with Jerry. But, they, the coaches, knew Jerry was sexually assaulting boys the same age as their sons, and still allowed Jerry to carry on with his activities?

Again, arrogant and in your case, ignorant.

I believe Mr. Sabin may have something to say about that - you better hope you don't have to find out. Again why wood you even care about what is said here - that first poster was just looking to troll this board. No one here is going to kiss your arrogant ass so just go away - see you Saturday night.

We may be arrogant, but not nearly as much as the three holier than thou schools who are bastions of academic superiority, do nothing wrong and do everything the 'right way'. And tell everyone they are at every chance - UM, ND, and PSU. And yet, there are skeletons lurking.
Name a skeleton. I dare you.

I hope Urban gets pelted with a piss balloon Saturday night. Mouth open, too.

I don't hate Ohio State. I don't really care for the way they have done business, but I don't hate them. I do have a ton of respect for Urban Meyer's coaching ability. The guy gets his teams to perform at a high level.

It's not so much tosu as it is the entire b1g. Our school has never been welcome in the conference. For me it goes back to our second year in the conference, and we rolled through the schedule to an undefeated season. We were forced to play in the rose bowl, so we couldn't get a bowl game with Nebraska. When the final polls came out, pollsters from all over b1g land (including Ohio and Michigan) cast their #1 votes for the Huskers. Way to help a brother out...guaran-damn-tee if the same thing had happened to any other conference team, Delaney would have made sure all of his votes were in line for his conference (like when the same thing happened to Michigan 3 years later - they were co-NC).

Fast forward to 2012....Delaney and his minions not only did nothing to support Penn State when the NCAA went all ape shit on us, they thought it best to actually kick us while we were down.

As a tosu fan, you have no idea what it's like to play in a stacked conference. If you don't believe that, then I suggest you ask Wisconsin fans how they feel about how the games are called. Trust me....it's real.

PSU Fans,

After reading through this board, it's clear that your fan base hates OSU. Just out of curiosity why?
Frankly I'm tired of that grown up adolescent wearing the cape and that other one who wears the buckeye necklace always being shown on television. They look like they're 60 years old going on 12. Of course, I have other reasons too.

Pennsylvania AP writers ALSO voted Nebraska number one that year. If even your own state feels that you are not the best, how can you then go point fingers elsewhere?

There are good fans and bad fans but there's also a majority of fans and the majority of OSU fans are arrogant (much like the majority of Yankees fans). That's why way more teams than just Penn State hate OSU.
I work with an OSU fan. He's generally a decent guy, but when talking about OSU football, he acts like a smug smart-ass.

It's incredible how Meyer hasn't had one problem with his health and heart issues since leaving Sunny Florida for Ohio.
Not one problem...

Not so incredible. Ask any physician or nurse how often a man in his mid-forties show up in the emergency room because of chest pains that are caused by stress or even a gastric disorder. It feels like a heart attack and usually freaks out the individual because it gives them for the first time in their life a glimpse of their mortality. Also ask the health care professional if the chest pains can be alleviated with a few lifestyle changes and an understanding of their condition.

An Ohio State football player said it best:

"I did'n come here to play no school."

Here's the actual tweet - note the capitalization of "school" for effect so we would all know how serious he was about the subject:

And who could ever forget this doozie of a quote from another daO$U QB at the time of the quote:

"Not everybody is the perfect person in the world," Pryor said of Vick. "Everyone does -- kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me. I just feel that people need to give him a chance."

So do you believe Terell Pryor got no special benefits such as cash and cars to play there? Are you suggesting Maurice Clarett was a student athlete that was treated the same as any OSU student? Seriously?

Seriously. I know Pryor got free tattoos for his autograph and that he sold some of his personal memorabilia for what would be considered fair market value. While that is a violation and he was punished for it, if he was getting all this cash and free cars in which you are talking about, he probably wouldn't have needed to do so.

As far as Clarett, he was investigated pretty hard, and I'm not talking about the NCAA. Some of the best investigative reporters at ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Yahoo Sports, NY Times, CBS Sports, and pretty much every other major outlet. It's difficult to come out of such scrutiny unscathed, but OSU pretty much did outside of the court of public opinion.

Having said all that, it is always possible for an individual to make some kind of independent offer to an individual player. I'm sure occasionally an individual player accepts. But that's not with the program's consent nor is it indicative of a rampant problem.

The full punishment was never extracted and you know that.

Especially when the program puts the Boosters and players in close contact with one another (like the no-work jobs Tressell arranged with local Booster business owners) and makes sure to not be "looking" to closely at what goes on after they were put in contact with one another.... LMFAO! Remember the suckeye football players that were given essentially no-work "jobs" at a Country Club of a powerful booster??? I guess it's just coincidence that they same Car Dealer "leasing" Pryor and his mother cars (supposedly different cars every couple months) is the same Car Dealer that has a relationship with daO$U's athletic department and leases them cars as well??? Yea, just a whole lot of "coinky-dink", LMFAO!

Sure, when the investigative facts prove the allegations false, we should go with the public opinion that everyone believes to be true as the absolutely reality? Go ahead, let's play that game. You first.
