I just can't believe how much Weigel has improved. He can ride anyone not named Cox.

Schafer just upset Kroells. If OSU is getting wins like that from 285 they are going to be very tuff to beat at NCAAs.

Would hate having to put title hopes on Crutchmer

When healthy, Crutchmer is a very tough out. Not many other proven guys on the team who are more consistent and reliable, IMO.

Although his style may leave something to be desired, his epic battle with Storley at Nationals a couple of years ago will always have me concerned that he can go the distance.

Brock majored McKee. He wrestles like a wild man; going to be a handful at 133 this year.

Final:

#1 Oklahoma State 34 #16 Minnesota 3

149 #3 Anthony Collica (Oklahoma State) dec. Fredy Stroker (Minnesota) 6-4
157 Jonce Blaylock (Oklahoma State) dec. Carson Brolsma (Minnesota) 5-4
165 #4 Chandler Rogers (Oklahoma State) fall Brandon Kingsley (Minnesota) 1:24
174 #4 Kyle Crutchmer (Oklahoma State) dec. #14 Nick Wanzek (Minnesota) 7-5
184 #5 Nolan Boyd (Oklahoma State) dec. Bobby Steveson (Minnesota) 2-1
197 #2 Brett Pfarr (Minnesota) dec. #6 Preston Weigel (Oklahoma State) 7-2
Hwt Austin Schafer (Oklahoma State) dec. #5 Michael Kroells (Minnesota) 3-2
125 #10 Nick Piccininni (Oklahoma State) tech fall Skyler Petry (Minnesota) 17-1
133 #6 Kaid Brock (Oklahoma State) maj. dec. Mitch McKee (Minnesota) 10-2
141 #1 Dean Heil (Oklahoma State) maj. dec. Gannon Volk (Minnesota) 12-3

OSU looks awesome. Looking forward to the Reno dual.

I watched all but the Heil match and if all he could muster against Gannon Volk was a major then I'm glad I moved on...

-Pic looked big and solid
-Brock was strong and slick - he put a pretty serious halt to McKee's funk attempts
-Heil just bores me so I tuned out
-Collica gassed in the 3rd and Stoker gave him a run
-157 was a backup 149 (no Smith)
-Rodgers came out guns a blazin
-Crutchmer is a horse with his blast double but not much else going on in that match
-Boyd had more trouble with Steveson than I anticipated but looked solid on top.
-Weigel looks much improved, especially on top
-Schafer was the better wrestler and earned a boring decision, but I've never been impressed by Kroells at all.

OSU is solid - add in Smith and they don't have any weak spots.

I would be shocked if we wrestle anybody else. Okie St that is.

That was the worst Gopher meet in my 40 years of supporting them. Flat, listless, indifferent, apathetic. I need a thesaurus as there aren't enough adjectives to describe their performance.

The only difference is the talent level. They've been wrestling like that for a minute, jammen.

Iowa most likely not make national duals and be fine with me that is where Stoll got his injury last year. Stupid darn tournament to have any way.

The whole thing will be run as it was last year except the host teams will be the non Big10 schools. Unless Iowa somehow were to be one of the bottom rung Big10 teams the Hawks will participate. Cael's and Tom's idea and all.

If it had not been against NCST Iowa probably would have had a different late season dual and even though he would not have been wrestling Gwiz the injury still could have happened, or maybe to a different Hawk.

Single dual this way, way less likelihood of injuries in a late season singular dual versus wrestling 4 high quality guys in a 2 day event.

Injuries suck, but they happen.

Just out of curiosity, is that because you believe the Tigers will beat the Pokies or because you believe Iowa nips the Lions?
I think the Tigers/Cowboys is probably about a coin flip dual, and remember, it's in Columbia. (January 27th...I'll be there!) As for you guys, if you lose a Big Ten dual this year, I suspect it would be Ohio State (February 3rd at the Schottenstein Center, again, I'll be there), not Iowa, which I feel like is a better tournament team than dual team this year (four finalists in the first five weights would not surprise me in the least for them, but I suspect at least two of those finalists would lose to Lions in any circumstance).

As far as the matchups themselves, here's what I'm expecting for the top three duals (either a or b, depending on how the regular season shakes out in those two Friday night duals):

Option A:
Penn State at Oklahoma State
Ohio State at Virginia Tech
Iowa at Missouri

Option B:
Penn State at Missouri
Ohio State at Oklahoma State
Iowa at Virginia Tech

I am interested in how well Kemerer does with Smith and the Cornell kid.
Also really interested in how M Jordan does with Sorenson.
If the Hawks end up with 4 of the first 5 in the finals the question becomes, with 4 in the finals can they score an offensive point. If they don't is it again because everybody else stalls?

Should be fun.

They will NOT have four of the first five in the finals in my opinion ...

2 finalists, 3 finalists, 4 finalist or 10. The question still remains if all Hawk finalists fail to score any offensive points, will that be because everybody else was stalling?

Know my brain is decaying but can't remember any Hawk in the finals never scoring a point.

I did not write points, "offensive points".
Last year the Hawks had 3 finalists, Gilman, Clark and Sorenson. The only points scored by the 3 of them were escapes or stall points. Nothing offensive, and of course on HR the overwhelming shrill was Nico, Garrett and even Zain were stalling. 3 finalists not a single offensive point, yet everybody else who all scored multiple offensive points were the ones stalling.
As we get into the season this is just me poking fun at the Hawk fans.

Oh yeah, let's not forget the collective whine about McIntosh always stalling again Burak.

I mean the guy who always takes the shots underneath and through the hands to the legs and gets all the takedowns - when viewed through black and gold glasses that is the guy who is stalling.

Ok, have your fun man Garrett but have giving up lots of escapes. No big deal enjoy your time in the sun.

1991 Jeff Prescott (PSU) def. Chad Zaputil (IA) 14-0
1992 Jeff Prescott (PSU) def Chad Zaputil (IA) 2-0

Had the pleasure of watching both of these matches.
In that second championship bout Zaputil spent the entire match escaping engagement with Prescott while Iowa fans screamed for a stall call against Prescott.

Only time I can recall a Gable coached wrestler attempting to win a wrestling match by stalling his ass off.
