I'm in NYC. Have my bike with me (Road Bike), and an opportunity to ride Saturday morning. Anybody rode in Central Park? On a Saturday morning? Too much hassle, too crowded, too many meatheads to crash into you?

If you go early you will be fine.
If you go late I would suggest not riding quickly.
People walking in front of bikes was an issue 20 years ago before the zombie walkers of today.

Early is better. Early on a weekday is best. They closed all of the inner loop roads to motorized vehicles last year. I've ridden the loop 4 different times over the years and think that it is a great way to view the park. As long as you keep in mind that it's not just for the serious cyclist, but also for fat tourists like myself, you will be fine.
