Thanks for all the great comments last week regarding my car search. A couple of you asked me to follow up when I made my final decision, so here it is:

Of all the cars I looked at, I just couldn't get this one out of my mind. It was the one that I thought I'd regret not purchasing the most. It looks exactly like this one. Picking it up tonight.

Will give you my review after I've owned it a while.

Very nice. I am considering a used S5 as well as a new Golf R and a m240i. The S5 looks the best IMO and has the benefit of already depreciating by around 33%. The problem is, finding one near by. Congrats!

Congratulations to you (& to your son in the relatively near future)!

Well done.

Supercharged not turbo.

I'm very familiar with the engine, 3 friends have modified S4s with the same motor. Being supercharged has no bearing on tunability. You can turn these cars into monsters pretty easily.

This is my friend's tuned s4 demolishing my Golf R at a half mile event.

And my car isn't a slouch

Congrats! Where did you buy it?

Sky Motors in West Chester, PA. Great group to work with. After I drove the car last week and then decided to move on it, everything was done via phone and email.

That's awesome. That was the place I got my S6 and mentioned in one of our previous discussions.
Yep, easiest car purchase I ever had, too. Would definitely go there again.

Very happy for you.

Well, I owe you some thanks. I couldn't recall who mentioned them, but I checked out their site after reading your post. I saw the S5 in their inventory and set up an appointment to test drive it. I thought it was the car I'd end up right after, but looked at a few others to be sure. Called this morning, was told another guy was working on financing for it (no idea if that was true) so told them I'd give them a certified check for it. Done deal.

I'm just happy you had a good experience there and that it all worked out. Keep us posted on the car!

BTW, the poster's reference about tuning the engine is true. My guy said he could tune mine to yield 600 HP. I'm really tempted, but worry that I would crack up. I'll do it eventually, I think. Since you were looking for a fun car, you might want to consider that. It is plenty fun without that tuning. Enjoy!

There was an apr stage 1 S6 at that event too. Personally not a fan of APR as a company, although I do have some APR parts. All of the audi/vw forced induction cars respond well to tunes, since they come from the factory with fairly conservative software.

Are you on any of the audi forums?

No. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Audizine is the big one I think. Vwvortex has an Audi section as well. Just be warned if you become active you will absolutely end up modifying, and it's a disease. I planned on keeping my car stock, it now has a tune, downpipe, intercooler, intake, lightweight wheels, upgraded clutch, short shift kit, tinted windows and a new shift knob... plus the helmet for the track events.

Turbos are much easier to inexpensively tune for added horsepower and torque. Only "easy" to turn a supercharged engine into a beast if you are willing to spend lots of $$$.

Sorry you're just wrong. Stage 1 tunes are around 800-1300 bucks depending on the brand and will get a car to 330-350ish awhp depending on dyno. Stock they are 260-270 at the wheels. This guy gained 60 awhp with literally nothing but new software.

I just got a quote for my buddy to go GIAC Stage 2, which is an ecu and tcu tune plus a smaller pulley for the supercharger and its still under 3 grand out the door with labor. "Here is the info for the S4. The Stage 2 pulley and software will run $1840.00 plus $400 for install. The transmission software normally runs $700, but I will give a $100 discount when done in conjunction with the engine software, so it would be $600. No labor for install on the transmission software. Below is a dyno graph showing the improvement over stock with the stage 2 kit."

Naturally aspirated engines are expensive. an $800 dollar tune on a naturally aspirated cayman nets you 14 hp by comparison.
