OT: FYI, JZ says Newsweek article is still a go. (edit: Story now spiked)

I'm with Indy on this. Everything points to MM telling a soft story. JM, probably MM's mom, Dranov, Joe, C/S/S, Raykovitz, Heim, etc. all told consistent stories about what MM told them. It makes no sense to believe all but C/S/S were the only people he spilled his guts to.

That's not an excuse for their poor handling of the situation but blaming them (and Joe) but no others is not reasonable.
Who else knew and had notes of a prior accusation? I don’t think they are criminals but botched up very basic HR procedures at the very least.

Totally agree there. We’ll never get a truly 100% accurate account but i’m fine with Jerry sitting where he is as nothing has come up to say otherwise. You had JZ’s victim shaming, but that is about it. It does suck it turned into a witch hunt but had they simply made the call to cover their arses, it looks much different today IMO. Others will disagree, but i’m out of foil.

I don’t know how anyone could even question that it would look differently from a PSU perspective. Make a social services call and none of this is on Penn State, ever. That said, it still seems to me that McQueary didn’t give them anything to report.

You’ve gotten more emphatic with your stories in the last few years. Again you point to every person but CSS who knew this was the second accusation and were advised to report it. Schultz’s notes were pretty clear about 98. Sorry you want to play dumb for him too. You can sell that BS on this site only and some will buy it, but that is about it. Yell Jack or anyone else all you want to, it’s apparently not happening there.
There were zero accusations.

A huge, huge issue with this whole thing is that it was investigated ten years after the fact. Hard for anybody to really recall with much accuracy exactly what happened ten years earlier.
Which is why Schultz's notes and the email chain are so critical.

I know he agreed to take a polygraph, but has only said that the results are inadmissible in court. However, he does want to take a blood test to prove his hypogonadism. The warden at his prison is denying permission to have one.

That Jerry took one, and did not release the raw results speaks volumes.

You know that I agree they botched things up badly by failing to document MM's report and the reasoning behind their response. To a lesser degree for not reporting (forget that JS is their colleague, their job is to protect the university).

Regarding their knowledge of 1998... the finding of poor judgement but no crime could very well have led them to believe MM's soft report was more of the same.

Regardless, a lot of other people had an opportunity to do something but did less than C/S/S/P.

Newsweek was never going to publish a long article defending a convicted pedophile unless there were facts behind it.

I can't believe this thread reached 13 pages for an article which doesn't even exist.

So it isn’t happening at all?

Of course not. No evidence for new date. Fake accuser is ridiculous, breaks laws, and most important doesn't do anything to clear Jerry. 3rd hand stuff from ex girlfriends is hearsay with an agenda.

No high profile mag would print that crap.

It was never going to happen.

Now zig trashing Cipriano. He just cannot hold his ego in check.

At least this site permits both sides to express their opinions. Jive11 is now a mod over at TOOS, and over there it is his way or the highway.

Yes, you heard me right. Jive11 is now a mod.

Thankfully you aren't a mod, lionlurker. Any post without a Paterno reference or Free Jerry vibe would be deleted.

I believe that Newsweek was considering doing a story but it was probably never as definite as Zigler suggests. Regardless of what you think about Zigler he certainly has a lot of knowledge about this case. He has way too many names, dates, etc. to have made all of it up.

$8M from PSU to a guy nicknamed "Frank the Tank" - who was "molested" as a senior in HS and a star TE on the football team.

My 2 cents, which won't buy ya much. No one, and I mean no one knows what really happened except the players. I don't know why anyone would be surprised the story got nixed. I don't know why others claim it's bs, you have absolutely zero knowledge of it. It's all opinion. Stories get squashed all the time. Hell, the producers of Chappaquiddick have stated they were heavily pressured to not release the movie. Money and power conceal and corrupt lots, always has. We know this much.

There were lots of failures here, from the state to admins. Personally, and I honestly believe this makes the most sense. Authorities at Penn State really had no clue how bad it was, and they simply couldn't believe it to be true. In the end a simple phone call would have prevented all of this. I find it hard to believe, that they would simply risk everything if they actually believed JS was like this. I for one try not to throw people under the bus like a mob, when their entire lives point the opposite direction. Rational people usually don't do that.

You think he made up the names of victims and their friends & families? You don't think AF's dad was really a pedophile?

Zig has a lot of knowledge about this whole saga. A lot more than the major media. He might be so vested in his narrative that he is unable to analyze things objectively but he still has a lot of knowledge.

Do you think Cipriano is made up? Do you deny that they were working with somebody at Newsweek?

Fake accuser ended contact w/ attorney only when asked to by Newsweek due to the story. Now, no article.

I have no confidence that calling authorities would have stopped JS from his questionable interactions with kids.

Calling the authorities would probably have taken PSU off the hook. I say probably because authorities could have easily claimed that PSU administrators didn't tell them everything they knew and lawyers would still go after PSU for allowing things to occur on campus until 2011.

Nothing would have helped PSU. It was a hit on PSU, plain and simple. Look what they did to JVP, who did EXACTLY what he was supposed to do.

They have a copy of the Freeh report with a handwritten note on the top of page 1, in all CAPS. First paragraph of page one discusses the football culture covering up the crimes of Sandusky. The handwritten note from a Freeh Group employee says, "NO EVIDENCE OF THIS!"
