OT: Game of Thrones S8E1 - "Winterfell" - No Spoilers in First Post....

He cannot see the future.

Are you sure. At the very end of last Sunday, Bran is sitting in the courtyard. Someone walks past and asks what he is doing. Bran replies "I am waiting for an old friend". And then Jamie Lannister rides in on his horse. The scene was set up to make you believe Bran knew Jamie would be arriving and was sitting there waiting for him.

Hmmmm. Well then it would be a new power because he always states what the three eyed raven can do.

I've also seen speculation that Bran's "I'm waiting for an old friend" was not intended to mean Jamie Lannister but was Theon..... either way. Bran had the for-sight to be sitting in the courtyard "waiting for an old friend". Gives the distinct impression he has ability to either see the future or predict the future.

I am not sure. We all know he can definitely go backwards and see the past. But go look back at the very last scene from last week. Bran definitely says "I am waiting for an old friend" right before Jamie Lannister rides into Winterfell.

I think that was meant to be Sam. He tells that to Sam and thats when he tells sam that he should be to tell Jon he is the true king . At least thats what I took from it. Another theory is he might just be sitting there waiting for the night king. Lots of theories regarding him and Bran. We will know soon enough

edit: I see what you just posted. I dont think he says that at the very end. I thought he said that to sam. Maybe your right

Even if Bran can not see into the future. Let's take the seeing into the future off the table. We all know he can see into the past. Wouldn't they be using some past knowledge to their advantage.....:

> How was the Night King created... knowing how something was created might give you knowledge of how it can be killed.

> The Night King disappeared for hundreds of years (which is why so many did not believe and just thought it was a folk-lore). So what made him disappear or go away for hundreds of years??? maybe they could do the same now ??

I have a question ... What is the level of belief everyone has with Bran's 3-eyed-raven all-seeing abilities??? It seems to me that Bran has an incredible power that no one is really tapping into. Think about it. Bran has the ability to see all things past, present and future. He can basically time warp himself at will. With power like this at their disposal, wouldn't they all be using it more as a weaponized advantage.

> They could ask Bran to time warp back to the beginning of the Night King to see how the Knight King was created in hopes that learning more about him could help them defeat him.

> They could ask Bran to look into the next 48-72 hours to see exactly when the White Walkers & Army Of Dead will be arriving at Winterfell so they can be ready at the exact time.

Are they not using Bran more out of stupidity? Or, is it that they are just not believing him?

Bran isn’t exactly forthcoming with all the powers he has and how he could use them.

Bran isn’t exactly forthcoming with all the powers he has and how he could use them.

But enough key people have seen his powers used, and believe in it enough to use it for their benefit.

For example, Sansa & Arya believed in Bran's powers enough to use it to gain knowledge of the treacherous acts Littlefinger did to the Stark family. They believed in Bran's knowledge enough which resulted in Arya slitting his throat.

Sam believed in his power enough to go run and tell Jon about his true identity.

I agree. Bran is kind of mysteriously creepy. But there are enough examples & references over the past few seasons which lead you to believe several key players not just know about his power, but believe it.

Assuming Bran has the same powers/visions as Jojen (and there is no reason to believe otherwise), he should have some ability to see into the future. Jojen saw his own death by fire (which ended up coming true), and chose to help Bran anyway - knowing it leads to his death.

He can see presently that Jamie was coming to Winterfell. He knew Jamie was coming and that his arrival was imminent so he was waiting for him in the courtyard. That has nothing to do with seeing the future.

He was created by the Children of the Forest in the war against men. They put dragonglass through a man's heart. This was in an episode. Also explained that dragonglass and valerian steel can kill White Walkers. Whether this works on the Night King, who knows.

I believe that there are different theories on this, but they lost the great war and were relegated North of the Wall along with the Children of the Forest and Free Folk. The Wall was built with magic to keep them out. The Night's Watch was formed to guard the wall. Since it had been so long, eventually they were just stories.

We know that he can see images of the future.

"He can see presently...".

I hope so. I am not even a 3-eyed raven and I can see in the present.

He cannot see the future.

Here is Bran's vision from S6E6 where he sees at least two events that had yet to happen: The destruction of the Sept of Baelor (which Cersei did four episodes later) and dragons flying over King's Landing.

I pretty much know how it's going to go. The armies in the north will bicker while the White Walkers destroy half of them and Cersei will be chilling down south having gratuitous amounts of sex and will end up on the throne only to be taken out by Arya.
Something to remember.....

Any unsullied/Nights watch/men of the North etc. who die will be raised as White Walkers....def losing Winterfell ep3 and retreating, Iron islands, DragonStone, Gods Eye

Didn't dragons fly over Kings Landing at Dany's and Cersei's first meeting, when Jon and Dany brought down that zombie to show Cersei? Dany "flew in" for the meeting, and I assume it was in King's Landing.

OK. So Bran can see in the future.

So back to my original question/comment. .... If you have someone on your side who has the ability to see into the future (and the past), then wouldn't you be using this to your advantage?

Put most of your resources exactly WHERE and WHEN they are attacking
Allocate other forces to flank them
Use your best and deadliest forces to try and kill the Night King

Yeah, but that was in S7. So, the future from when Bran saw it.

Viserion wasn't very impressed by that magic shiat.

OK. I now have this "theory" on how they are going to use Bran's powers to defeat the Night King......

> At the end of the last episode the Umber boy was pinned up on the wall as a wight with that strange circular symbol. When they stabbed him with the flaming sword the entire circular symbol caught on fire.... I think this is a huge clue. That exact same circular symbol was shown around the Weirwood Tree that housed the 3-eyed Raven. Story goes that when the Night King was created, the 3-eyed Raven was also created as an all-knowing human library. If the 3-eyed raven was created and in the Weirwood Tree and there was the exact same circular symbol around the Weirwood Tree then IMO that is a clue to how to destroy the Night King....

.... My prediction on how they play Bran's powers into winning this war..... Bran goes back and sees that if the Weirwood Tree is destroyed by fire, then this will destroy the Night King. My guess is that Jon Snow takes on the task of going out past the old wall to destroy there tree. Jon makes it... sets the tree on fire... the Night King is destroyed... the wights go back as dead.... show over... Jon's the hero.

How? It seems that if the future is already determined then that is what will happen no matter what you do. Maybe Bran should just tell viewers what will happen in the next episodes.

This has been a pretty widely viewed theory since the Unber burning and connection to the tree.

I'd be fine with that.

My guess is the Night King has some power as well and he could counteract the move...and Bran knows this.
