OT: More PSU insanity -- Outing Club no longer allowed to go on Outings

as an aside, I was somewhat surprised to see this past weekend that Tussey Mountain still had snow in 4 or 5 locations on its slopes. Not enough to cover an entire run, but still surprising for late April.

Does Tussey Mt still operate? Thought they went outta biz years ago. My brother pointed out the snow on the slopes but I thought it was natural snow.

Please say I am right so I can say I-told-you-so!

From a member of the Outing Club:

"We are asking for your support to keep the Penn State Outing Club at the university. The university is currently banning the club from going outside. The Outing Club is a ninety eight year old club that has strong roots in helping the community in terms of trail and river cleanups and is even responsible for the creation of both the Mid State Trail and the Allegheny Front Trail. The Outing Club is also responsible for taking thousands of new backpackers out backpacking for the first time. The Outing Club has helped students find their confidence, transforming students into confident, young outdoor enthusiasts because of the empowerment and mentorship the club has provided. This is for all the students who finally found a safe space on campus because of PSOC. PSOC has allowed students to feel safe and heard and that is being threatened by the University's decision to ban Outing Club from going outside. Signing this petition helps support our cause and will be sent to multiple offices at the University. Thank you for support!"

PSU should do the following:

- Ban the Willard Preacher because the steps are too dangerous and it causes a crowd where students can sprain ankles

- Close for 2 inches of snow because someone might fall

- No more Arts Fest on PSU property because someone might stumble over the poorly-erected temporary fencing up from the Allen Street Gates

- No more hot food in the HUB because someone might burn their tongue

- Remove the bricks from Pollock Road because one might get loose and cause someone to stumble

This came up a couple of times while I was on vacation (PA and New England) the last two weeks. Outside folks are baffled.

I don't give out too many tidbits about myself. As for the WV rivers, I had some of the best times of my life on them. I kayaked pretty much every single one of them, most of them so many times that I knew them like the back of my hand.

Charlie did study every whitewater fatality that involved a kayak, a C1 (a modified canoe that was like a kayak) or a whitewater open canoe. I don't recall if he investigated fatalities that involved open canoes in non-whitewater situations, or if he investigated raft fatalities. The reports were printed in the American Canoe Association's publication, and American Whitewater's publication. Whitewater clubs across the country would frequently copy his reports, and reprint them in their local newsletters. I'm not sure if the reports are available online. I do recall that they were compiled and printed as books covering some interval (I think it was 2 years), and that those anthologies are available on Amazon.
well if you've kayaked pretty much every single one of them, next time you are on the Ohio, let me know, I'll bring my yacht by!!!
