OT: PSU Women's Volleyball

Great match last night. Creighton played tough!

Nebraska next, who they beat in the season (loss was to Wisc and Pitt)Then either KY or Pitt. They beat Louisville in season also.

Edit- I was wrong, Louisville not KY. I mixed them up in my old brain since Louisville is in KY but not all KY is Louisville.

I've been following the volleyball this year closer than previous years, even watching the non-PSU matches this tournament. Good year to jump on the bandwagon, PSU has a fun team to watch. They might take a step back after this run, since the stars are mostly senior transfers, but I imagine a run like this helps recruiting, along with the fact that one of the stars--setter Izzy Starck--is a freshman.

From what I understand, they have a Cael like recruiting class coming in.

Penn State and Nebraska played only one match this season at REC hall and PSU beat them 3-1 to clinch a share of the BIG tittle. Now I have a dilema, I've got ticket to the Journeymen duals on Sunday and if PSU beat Nebraska. I live proximity to both events and have to watch one via my phone LOL

I love me some psu wrestling but if I could attend a championship for the Ladies I’d have to go that route.

In State College tonight to pick-up daughter #2. Can anyone recommend a good volleyball bar in town to watch the game?

I should have been clearer, I will also be in town tomorrow evening. Just looking for an excuse to go drinking.
Brothers Bar & Grill has the most TVs. Typical bar food and lots of beer. And, the bar and bathrooms are cleaner than most. Actually cleaner than any in SC.

Just FYI, ESPN says PSU at 9:30, gopsusports says 30 mins after first match. So I guess there is a chance it could start earlier than 9:30

are PSU women's sports better than the mens,I think they are!

for sports with both men's and women's (from memory):

baseball/softball - both not traditionally good but i think softball has been better recently. calling it a push because they're not moving the needle
basketball - usually women, but rhoads looks like he might have something going with his recent recruiting. another push for both usually missing their ncaa tourneys
cross country - women's team made the ncaa championships this year and had a woman finish top 20. men's only sent 2 guys and both finished 100+
fencing - both good but idk how good
golf - both bad?
gymnastics - kinda hard to judge because there are only like 20 ncaa men's teams, but we just had an olympic medalist on the pommel so i'm giving it to men's
hockey - opposite problem with few women's teams but i think i'm going men since they were overtime away from the frozen 4 in 2023
lacrosse - both pretty good. men were a bad call away from a natty recently but i think the women have been more consistently in the top 15 nationally. push
soccer - women and it's not close
swimming and diving - no clue whatsoever so i'm assuming both bad
track and field - nod to the men with the ncaa 200m champ this year and olympic medalist on the shot put
tennis - both bad?
volleyball - men's team is usually top 10 but few programs. women's team top 10 vs every college under the sun so women take this one

so my count is:
men's - 3 (gymnastics, hockey, track and field)
women's - 3 (cross country, soccer, volleyball)
push - 7

swimming and diving - no clue whatsoever so i'm assuming both bad

Maybe a bad assumption.

Penn State swimming and diving had five current or former athletes competing at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Women's diving has Mary Ellen Clark, who won bronze medals in diving at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games.

(Boy time flies.)
