Anyone have any experience with TEC Infrared grills? Seriously considering one to replace my Summit. Others I have looked at are Capital, Lynx, Bull, Twin Eagle. But I really, like the TEC. They claim temp range of 200-900.

Before you spend serious money like that on a grill, buy the cheapest and smallest pellet grill you can find, use it for a few months. I think you'll love it so much you'll convert to pellet cooking. Then you can sell it on craigslist for almost what you paid for it and then buy a high quality one in the size you want all while saving a bunch compared to the TEC.
Pellet Grills are great for what they are, but they don't get hot enough for seating steaks and chops properly. Before you spend serious money like that on a grill, buy the cheapest and smallest pellet grill you can find, use it for a few months. Very curious. I have a BGE. What would the infrared do for you that the Kamado doesn't? You can get that sucker up to 900 easy.Good advice, but I already have a Kamodo Big Joe. I have experience iwith IR on a previous MHP grill and really liked it. We use our grill 3-4 times per week throughout the year. I also don't want to run a dedicated electric line for a grill and I ain't gonna mess with extension cord s everyone I want to grill (so Lynx is off the list).

You're doing it wrong. Allow me to change your life for youSaves me some time andbprep. and most important, the Mrs. needs to be able to use it. Use the egg almost exlusively for smaking and roasting.

Get yourself a weed burning torch at Harbor Freight for 20 bucks.
Grab your phone and a beer. I prefer IPAs, but your choice. Just please....no racing beer. This is serious business.
Dial up one of your favorite songs on YouTube.
Light the weed burning torch.
Listen to your song choice and enjoy your beer.
Move the weed burning torch around. Get 4 spots going good... you'll be done by the end of the first song.
Go in and prep your meat. Gather your rubs and spices.
In 10 minutes you're at 450.
In 15 minutes you're at 600.
If you want to really crank it up, put your leaf blower against the bottom vent. You'll be at 900 degrees in five minutes.
Shit tastes so much better over actual fire. And with this method you're not taking any more time than that gas grill. While its heating up you're prepping your meat.

The TEC is a solid grill, and I was very happy with it. But I ended up selling it and buying a Firemagic with 3 burners, one of which is IR. Best of both worlds.
Do your TEC have the glass plate or was it open burner? I looked at Firemagic and they were very cool, but the closest dealer did not know anything about them(eg- what type of stainless?). And I was dealing with owner of the place.

It was an older one, and I don't remember any glass plate, so I guess it was open.
The Firemagic is pricey, but it's big and it is completely the high-end stainless steel. The burners have a lifetime warranty and weigh a ton. It's typical big-suburban-overkill, I suppose, but it should last a very long time and it has worked flawlessly. Mine is a drop-in model into an island, and it is extremely substantial.
