I’m watching Gladiator 2 on Paramount+. Anyone else see it? The hero in the movie looks a lot like ex Hawk Mike Kemmerer!

Everytime Iowa runs its mighty mouth...

Whatup, Pitchfork! First, I freakin love owls, so thanks for the minute plus of this post here. They're so cool because they're both super chill and insanely ferocious. Add in their ancient reputation for Wisdom, and you've got one of the absolute coolest animals on our planet.
At my old house with floor to ceiling windows (1965 single pane, so tons of pain on our energy bills), I once saw our neighborhood owl sitting in a tree, prob 30feet from my window. I looked at him, he looked at me, then kept staring at the ground. Fascinated, I kept up my observation, when suddenly dude flew to the ground with crazy speed and stabbed something with his awesome claws. I had to scoot a bit to continue to see, and found he'd nabbed a small rodent, probably a mouse. He looked up at me again, cleared me as chill enough, then freakin threw the mouse upward and swallowed the little thing whole. All in about 1.5 seconds. Then he flew right back to the same branch & continued to chill. It was the very coolest live nature thing I've seen above ground.

Second, we're a cat family and our youngest cat is not well-liked by one of the older ones (the young one is all black and the old one is all white, so the racial overtones are impossible to escape every time we talk about it in our house), but she's super savvy and keeps her head on a swivel, very, very much like an owl. I see it so often that I've constantly been barraged by fragmented memories of old hip hop lyrics that involve owls. But they've not been accurate or complete in my head, you know what I mean?

So yesterday I looked them up, got some clarity and made an evernote note called Owl Lyrics, which I now wish to share here. There's two of em, one each from two of my alltime Top-5 favorite rappers.

Ice T, Squeeze the Trigger, from 1987's Rhyme Pays album:
https://genius.com/Ice-t-squeeze-the-trigger-lyrics

I've been dogged out by cops, shackled and socked
Paid my dues to the streets, took my hard knocks
Disrespected by snobs, damn near trampled by mobs
Persecuted by squares workin' nine to five jobs
But like a panther I prowl, like a lion I growl
Learn to see behind my back like the head of an owl

Phife Dawg, Miscellaneous, from his 2020 album Ventilation, after he'd quit Tribe Called Quest
https://genius.com/Phife-dawg-miscellaneous-lyrics

Came to the door, made the dancefloor wild
Shorties "Sayin My Name" like Destiny's Child (aah)
So I just smile, get em thirsty like 'ow'
I know I'm type foul, trippy steady on a pile
Eyes wide open like a mother*&(in owl
Who's this tig bitty chick with the Colgate smile?

I'm scared to ask what the coolest live nature thing you've seen below ground.

I don't think anyone doubts that. I'm glad social media didn't exist when I was in high school or college. I say plenty of stupid stuff now. Back then, jeez...
My wife has the biggest trap mind ever. She remembers just about every stupid thing I have said or done in the past 42 plus years. Well, at least the ones she knows about.

Ha, that was weird wording trying to except scuba diving sightings. A school of dolphins, a lionfish, a shark and stingray all might compete ;)

Second link is definitely AI. Eurasian Eagle Owls are large but not nearly that large.

Although they're not native to the US, I was able to photograph a Eurasian Eagle Owl in the "wild" a few times because one had escaped from the Central Park Zoo and when he proved too difficult to recapture, they let "Flaco" remain free. He mostly kept to Central Park, favoring one particular tree at the northen end of the park. Unfortunately, he died a little after a year of freedom, after eating something (a rat or pigeon most likely) that had ingested poison, and flew into a building.

I used to work at a factory where the entire maintenance department was overrun with Pagans MC. Their leader got them all jobs. Not mafia style no show jobs but jobs. I never really understood that. Isn't the whole point of joining an outlaw motorcycle club to not have to work?
So many tools went missing.

I used to work on the docks. Union’s been on strike; I’m down on my luck. It’s tough. So tough.

Luckily, my wife, Gina, has a job at a diner.

Nah....I'm sure most of them are it for the opportunity to hold toy drives for the kids.

Any youth wrestling coaches experience this?

ha - reminds me a lot of those times with the little one's. One memorable moment is when I told one of my wrestlers something similar to this and he executed it perfectly! 9 years later he won a state championship! Good days!

Since this is a thread about OT subjects, I have a question for the techie people. I am planning on getting a new phone carrier because at football games, I cannot even text and I am a care giver for my wife. I have Verizon now. I see others with service that seems fine. They can text, call and use the internet. Does anyone know the mobile carrier that works well at football games. Thanks

I have Comcast/Xfinity and never seem to have issues in Beaver Stadium. Kind of weird, I don’t have great service from a box in BJC.

I know first hand about head injury. Almost 2 1/2 years ago I got hit by a pickup as a pedestrian. Driver was blinded by the sun. On police report he estimated he was going 30 miles an hour. He said that he thought he went over a speed bump (my legs). The left side of my head behind ear (real nasty gash) broke his bug shield and dented his hood . I then landed on ground and had huge lump on right side of scalp. I was out cold in middle of road. Thank God he stopped and call 911. I was in hospital 3 days and walked out. Doctors said I was a miracle.
I still have Vertigo and brain fog almost every day.

In my opinion, the very best thing to help and/or eliminate vertigo, brain fog, and the negative effects of concussions is cranial sacral therapy. If you have never heard of it Google it. For the last few decades I have practiced the advanced versions of this therapy and in the hands of a skilled practitioner the results can be miraculous.

When I was about 14 -15 years old, I got knocked out cold in a local sandlot football game. One of the guys carried me to the side and I came to a few minutes later. My head hurt like crazy for a while, but I was able to walk home with the other guys when the game was over. For the rest of the weekend, I was having trouble remembering whether events from the previous few days had actually happened or whether I just dreamed about them. I asked my friends about things and they thought I was acting weird.

Problem was, back in those days nobody was really familiar with how serious a concussion can be. If that happened now, I would have been in the ER in no time. I never said anything to my parents about it and none of my friends suggested I go to a doctor. In retrospect, that was a bad, bad concussion. I don't think it had any long term effects on me, but who knows. Maybe my IQ would register at 190 or higher rather than the 180+ where it is today. 😁

Not googling it. Sounds like a fancy name for teabagging.

Well you don't know shit about this therapy so you're showing your ignorance with that comment. I have personally treated many people successfully with vertigo and concussions. For your information, the therapy is extremely scientific and intensely mechanical. It takes years of study and effort and practice to become competent. It is by far the most difficult physical therapy skill to learn.

how true... won my first wrestling trophy in 3rd grade when i was slammed in the finals. Came to with the smelling salts a few minutes later. In HS I wiped out my little sisters bike - no idea how - woke up in the hospital. Had some minor seizures a few years back - unfortunately no idea of cause, fortunately controllable!
