OT: What is the best pizza joint in Pennsylvania, and why?

Used to be Zeno's in Edinboro. Probably no longer there as it's been over 30 years.

Park Pizza in the Port makes a nice pizza. The best ever was Johnny Perroto's on Washington Blvd. He tossed em' w/ cornmeal.

My vote is Vincent's, on Ardmore Boulevard. Loaded and chewy and fantastic after six beers.
I don't think you can say one place is the best or better than another. It's a matter of what is your favorite. Most of the time, whatever you grew up eating, is your favorite, and most people think that is the best. I grew up eating Vinnie pie every Friday night. To me, that is what pizza should be based on my experience. Vince has been gone since 2010. I still recall him smoking cigarettes (Kools) while making pies. No extra charge for the ashes in your pie. I was back in the area in May visiting family, and my wife and I went to Confortti's (formerly Vincent's) in Irwin on Route 30. We got a couple of pizzas to share with my dad. My dad and I had an anchovy and mushroom pizza.

this is what I know, the worse local pizza joint in Pa, is better than an pizza in WV, any where.

I sure do enjoy the pizza and cheesesteaks from Berwyn Pizza (on Route 30 in Berwyn) every time I am back there. But I certainly would not claim to be an expert on this subject, or the subject of cheesesteaks. I really enjoy reading comments from members of this Board on that subject, and realize that I could easily spend several weeks back there sampling the various suggestions..

Should "cheesesteak" be one or two words? I'm thinking it is one word, but am not certain.

Mario's Pizza in Northampton, Pa. The pizza is consistent, it tastes like it did 20 years ago. Don't get me wrong I've had better specialty pizza's from other places but for a standard pizza, its the best.
IMO, the Lehigh Valley is loaded with great NY style pizza shops. Crossroads in Hellertown was fantastic, but I believe they closed. I also believe the Matey's are somehow affiliated, so the that recipe may still be around. Steve's Pizza in Palmer Township is also great, but they can be inconsistent. Colonial Pizza in downtown Easton is very good, but a little different with the sauce on top. It's one of those love it or hate it styles. They make a great white pizza as well. Out of all those, I like/liked Crossroads the best. Just good flavor, consistent.

The Pizza Palace, downtown Emporium, Pa. Why....not 'cause I say so. They won second place in a national contest in Los Vegas several years ago. Then two years later won first in a New York City competition.

"Pan baked Old Forge style" pizza means what? Deep dish pizza? Out here in the Bay Area, people refer to deep dish pizza either with those three words or the term "Chicago style."

The Topic is too broad... you can't compare a wood burning Neapolitan, to a pan baked "Old Forge" style, to a deck baked NY style pizza - all have their own crust types, heat methods etc...

Let's do this - since it is a very specific style to PA : Favorite Old Forge Style Pizza

My vote - Victory Pig Pizza

A great in-home recipe for VP knock off -

Take a look at the links in my post - Old Forge is a pan type pizza, not as thick as a Sicilian type. The bottom of the pan has a sizable amount of oil, so the crust sort of "frys" and becomes crisp. More of an open "airy" crust than Chicago style. Chicago style reminds me of a more biscuit type crust...The sauce (like Chicago style) normally goes on top of the cheese - so its built: dough/cheese/sauce... maybe in the bay area you have Detroit style pizza - Old Forge and Detroit style are very similar...

Another key attribute in Old Forge style is (at least Victory Pig) that its sauce had a lot of onions (very finely minced)...

I miss the old Capri Pizza near the movie theaters inside the Lycoming Mall. The guys that worked there were off the boat Sicilians. Loved going to the movies at "the Mall" back in the 1980s. Best pizza in the Williamsport area to go along with the best arcade in the area.

The above is what Old Forge-style pizza looks like. To me, it's not all that great....but definitely a "different" or "distinct" take on pizza.

Here's another photo:

My favorite, Tuzzi's, is similar but has a different cheese and a less sweet (borderline acidic) sauce. This is their standard pizza--can't find a photo of white broccoli or extra cheese/pepperoni:

Anything from Old Forge. I mean, it's the pizza capital of the world. No brainer.

Revello’s Pizza was established by our family in the summer of 1967, formerly known as Pelosi’s. Located in the heart of downtown Old Forge, Pennsylvania, the pizza capital of the world....

I would think any place in the immediate Philly area and that is based on sheer volume. I have about 6 pizza places within walking distance of my home. The most famous of which is Pica's but I am actually not a big fan. Where I live you can't swing the proverbial dead cat without hitting a bar - and drunk Irish people - or a pizza joint.

You remember Cologne Pizza on the Strip back in that time frame? Great pizza and a meatball parm that could bring about world peace.

By sheer volume - that means Dominos, Pizza Hut and Pappa Johns are hands down better than anything - nope!

Sheer volume means mom and pop pizza joints. I haven't seen a Pizza Hut or Dominos in eons. I swear the Philly area has more pizza joints then NYC.

Atmosphere....sitting on the wall on College Ave in front of Old Main eating a slice of Mama Mia's.....can't beat it....

Pizza Palace in Emporium PA. Ate there on a trip, just stopping through, and it was fantastic. all of us, well seasoned travelors, all agreed it was one of the best we ever had. Don't know why.

Don't remember that one. When were they around?
Late 70's - early 80's. I want to say they were in a retro-fitted house on the corner of 3rd St. and Russell Ave. - Almost west to Northway Blvd.

Being a NEPA guy, I vote for Angelo's/Ricci's/Gerry's (all owned by the same family) in Wilkes Barre, Maroni's in West Scranton, Salerno's in Old Forge, or Nearra's(try what's called the sweetie pie) in Scranton. Can't beat the pizza in NEPA...

Was wondering if it was still around, been a few decades... a Berwyn Pizza pizza steak is mana from heaven. Is the bar that had fantastic beef sammiches carved to order still around? Can't remember the name...

Whoa, then it's a TRAY of pizza! ;) Damn, talking about pizza and Step putting pics of Old Forge pizza up is really making me hungry!!!
When I was a kid, it was a tray of Andy's Pizza in Peckville. Damn that was good after a Friday night football game. Then sometime around high school age we started going down to Old Forge and haven't looked back (but I hear Andy's is still there - may have to check it out). Been to most in Old Forge but somehow we settled on Arcaro and Genell's. If you want a real "treat" have 1 piece of their white pizza. I say one, cuz otherwise they will take you out on a stretcher it will clog your arteries...but what the hell, can't get a tray of real pizza down here in Maryland! And don't tell me Ledo's is real pizza!
