OT: What is the best pizza joint in Pennsylvania, and why?

Your description fits almost exactly with my recollection of (what I recall as) Mister Pizza from the strip in Loyalsock from the late 70's/early 80's.

@MtNittany seems to think my memory's all wet on this. Can you remind me which pizza joint you thought was the more likely candidate?[/QUOTE
I used to work at Mr. Pizza.. back in the 70's and yes was up on the Golden Strip (corner of East 3rd and Tinsman Ave - now a Taco Bell) - Curt Guyette owned the place)

just a tip for all you rollers. pimps, drug smugglers, grifters, and charlatans that maybe traveling east to west for 3:30 or later Beaver stadium start and happening to rocking the 45 through Millheim cause it got no Po, call Vinnie at OIP ( there are like millions of these OIP places, none related to the other , is it some sort of inside joke ?? ) 814-349-5020 to order up a square Sicilian pie for your tailgate. we serve ours cold and it goes in an instant with the first round of beers, wine and drinks. ask him to cut it twice for 16 slices.

No, I was ln a hurry to leave the office, on my way to a cousins wake.....copied the advertisement and no time to edit.
As you know, many are confusing pan pizza with Old Forge. I see PennsyO is comparing Victory Pig to Old Forge...two different types. Pan pizza seems heavy and greasy, where ad Old Forge is very light. I believe you or someone else metioned the very light crust with Old Forge pizza.

I'm a pizza lover, and rotate my weekend selections from Old Forge, to pan.. Pizza Perfect, Pizza Loven & Bowling Alley on the lake highway. Round pizza will include Bernies in Dallas, Gerry's sweet pizza in Wilkes Barre's lower end and throw in Grotto at Harveys Lake. Oh, I forgot the Big Ten which makes pan, round and wood fire.

Carl Kern is the owner of the Big Ten, was a terrific athlete at Lake Lehman in the late 60's and played at Ohio State under Woody. I played football & baseball against his older brothers, but not Karl.

As any good buckeye alum, Karl also sells Penn State Creamery icecream.
Our favorites in da coal regions are Dave's Pasta & Pizza in Hanover Twp, Colarusso's in Avoca, Revello's and Salerno's in Old Forge.
Here in Dutchman Heaven, aka the Lehigh Valley, we love Ruffino's and Biaggio's.

Spoken like a connoisseur.

Living in NC, I miss that aspect of PA culture -- pizza in this area occasionally rises to "good", but generally not better than that. And almost no legit cheesesteaks.

Where do you go in RH for good pizza these days?
When we don't get Jet's pan pizza, which is as close to the "valley pizza" I can get, Kruse and Muer on Main is very good and is made from their famous bread dough. The Alibi Lounge just south of M59 on Rochester Road is a very close 2nd. My brother in law loves Old Forge pizza and hates the pizza here in Mi.

Thanks. It appears nothing has changed in 30 years.

Best pizza I ever had was back in the 1960s from the kitchen at the American Legion in Ringtown. Unfortunately that place is long gone.

Now we have an expert in the house. Alien - can you confirm that this is the original price board @ Mr. Pizza (w/ the prices painted over and obviously increased):

We would have to stop in Indiana and watch the fuc#ing game on TV after hitting all of those eateries and gin joints! I'm in!
I'm starting to like the idea. Maybe it'll get legs and happen.

If the trip happens, I would prefer that the'll be no drinking on the bus. My good friend Dr. Frank put my liver on the wagon.

I learned how to sling bar style pizza at "The Paddock" on Walbert Ave... worked there my senior year at PHS... fun place (1977-78)...

Dr. Frank is a hack. Dr.Hlstone says, let the good times roll!!!

Dr. Frank got a complaint from the lab that my blood was making the lab techs slightly dizzy from the alcohol vapors emanating from the sample!

Big day tomorrow, I’m getting a haircut and a follow up blood test. However it turns out, I’m bringing a few cigars out of storage & a bottle of Remy Martin 1738 cognac to enjoy on the back deck for the Pitt game. I can foresee my wife biting my ass big time if the tests return positive, which then I’ll have to change my game location and find a smoking bar (the Bowling Alley) on the Lake highway.

In Erie ....
Lucchetti's Pizza on West 26th. with bacon. Makes me think about my Grandpa.
their pepperoni balls are damn good too.

Also, question for the guy from Northeast. Where are the best wings? Trying to remember where my nurses snuck me out of the hospital too back in 1985.

Dugan's Pub in Luzerne. And yes we have the best cheesesteaks in the area too. One must be patient though, the food does take a while to prepare. Good thing is that they have plenty of great beers to be had.

The Paddock has excellent pizza.

Also, the Colonial Spaghetti House in Easton has great pizza as well.

Pizza is like sex. Even bad pizza is pretty good. However, there will always be a few favorites.

Speaking strictly for the State College area, here are my favorite good times:

1) The Hofbrau in Bellefonte. A classic, hole in the wall townie bar that happens to serve damn good pizza. Nothing fancy, just a great basic, crispy, chewy, pizza. I usually just get pepperoni which is small in diameter but sliced thick so it curls up tino crispy little pizza grease chalices.

2) Faccia Luna on South Atherton: Since I don't get to Bellefonte that often, this is where I typically go when I want a damn good pizza. I really enjoy a wood fired pizza. I usually get bacon & onion or what they call the Salamini Suprema that has pepperoni, salami & fresh basil. However, I have been disappointed in the consistency over the past two or three years. I've never tried Luna 2 in the old Pizza Hut near the mall.

3) Mario's (formerly Mario & Luigi's) on North Atherton. They used to have a good wood fired pie, but I haven't been there in years and can't verify. I've just always preferred Faccia Luna more. Also Mario's atmosphere is a bit too stuffy for my taste.

I've heard good things about pizza Mia in Bellefonte, but I have never tried them. I see that they now have a location in State College, so I might give them a try.

Delivery Pizza is a completely different type of pizza as far as I'm concerned. Some places with good pizza fall short when delivered.

Home D on South Atherton used to me my favorite delivery pizza. However, after four straight delivery flops for various reasons this past year I'm looking for a new go to delivery pie.

Ironically, "Crispy Little Grease Chalices" also describes these Pitt trolls on here lately.

Italian Village is good in many Pgh locales. For a while, it was the only pizza he would eat. He still gets it.

Ute: Yes, it's still there, and doing a land office business. It's called Casey's. Lots of different beers on tap, and fantastic beef sammiches. (Precisely how they pronounce it back there.)

Casey's eliminated the pit beef carving station behind the bar a few years back when they renovated the place. They claim that the beef sammich is still the same but it didn't look or taste like it when I had one after the renovation, so I haven't had another since. Wings are good, too.

Here on the Philly mainline, I like New Wayne Pizza (in Wayne, of course) made by Alex the Greek. Good cheesesteaks, too. I swear it's cheaper to order anything from him than making it myself.

Current local favorite is Anthony's Coal Fired.....a mostly east coast chain started in Florida. Dan Marino is an investor so they have many pics of him on the wall, but in Dolphin gear, thankfully. Their pizza is slightly burnt, which is how I like it, due to the intense heat from burning coal. A bit pricey.

In the 'Burgh area, I really liked the pizza and wings at Somma in Oakmont, just across the street from the golf course.

I hate to admit this but my fav pizza from anywhere is Tommy's in Columbus, OH. I believe the original is just off campus. Like many places in the Midwest, they cut horizontally and vertically so you get a bunch of little squares.

I'll back 86Eng on Anthony's coal-fired. They tell you up front that they do well-done pizza, so you get that crispy crust which is great. Taconnelli's pizza is really good, too, they have several places around Philly now.

Anthony's is a nice change of pace. We had one in Upper Dublin - do a great white pie with roasted cauliflower and garlic (family favorite)...lived in suburban Philadelphia for most of my life (up until last year), and miss all of the great family owned pizza shops we had 5 minutes in any direction. Living in 168XX now, and nothing comes close to even the mediocre shops in 19XXX area. :(

Well I live in Pa, but cross over to get a DeFrancesco tomato pie in Trenton on occasion. And for the record, Manco and Manco is over rated. Saco Subs has the best pizza in OCNJ.

That was me that stopped in Dugans on Friday. Met Charlie....nice guy....great food. Is the pizza different when you make it?

The weekday cook makes it little different than I do. His pie is good, my pie is good.

Charlie is the best! I only work there because he is such a great person.

Also, you must have met my wife. She bar-tends on Fri nights.

Welcome to the family!!
