Our future PSU goalie

So far on the Jr High season, she has had 5 shutouts in 5 games. The coach told me that is good.

huh? most junior high/middle schools in PA don't practice, or play games, until after the start of the school year. heck, the high school season in PA doesn't start until Sep 1. how has she already played 5 games?

congrats to her, and to the D on her team, for the 5 shutouts

They had a tournament (4 games) and had a friendly.

And yes the defense does deserve much of the credit. The photo above is what 90% of the game is for her. Playing on grass is so slow compared to turf and indoor.

Our goalie is almost half way through her jr. high season. 17 games with 16 shutouts. The only game she gave up a goal was a 1-1 tie. She is having a lot of fun. Coming up will be 3 of the toughest games of the year... Sem, WVW, and Crestwood. I don't think her shutout streak will be intact after this week.

22-0-1 on the season. She has given up 2 goals on the year. This week will be easy, but the next week will end the season with 3 of the toughest teams in the area. The kids are having a lot of fun and making life long friendships.

She finished the season with a 25-2-1 record and gave up 5 goals on the year. Her season ended last night vs Sem and she was knocked out of the game with a concussion. It was a clean play with three tough girls colliding and she wound up at the bottom of the pile. Fun game but her team came up short 0-1.

The indoor season starts Dec 9th at USTC and Dec 17th at USTC. I think she will be playing U16 as a 12yr old this season. Tom, hope to see you at one!

I might be there on the 17th ... not sure yet. I'll let you know as it gets closer to that date.

She didn't get his first goal on tape?? Off with her head!! :) I am sure he will score plenty more and every time it will be great. I teared up when my kid scored her first Lax goal, but I am a big softy.
My one soccer regret (outside of never scoring a diving header (I was too smart to ever try a bicycle kick)) was that my folks never saw me score a goal (though they only saw me play once or twice, as almost all of my career was as an adult in a different state).

Goals in soccer are tough to come by at a competitive level. How far did you get?

I happened to watch portions of the NCAA Men's D1 soccer semis and finals. If I recall correctly, a Stanford player had an absolutely sick goal on a diving header.

I wish I had time to look for it and link it.

I only played a couple of seasons in USSF sanctioned leagues (with one goal). But I played over 25 years in local leagues in Columbus (mostly) with over 360 goals, including two in Columbus Crew Stadium. Some of those leagues were indoor, though.

It would surprise a lot of my HS friends--while I competed for my HS, it was the chess team (oddly enough, I did play for tOSU on one of their lower ranking teams in one Pan Am Intercollegiate tourney here in Columbus--and one of our matches was vs Penn State). I was quite a clumsy athlete in HS but grew out of that--mostly--in college.

An update, the kid made the Future Olympic team as well as 4 of her other teammates.

Sunday mornings must leave the house at 5 a.m. for a 3 hr drive. I asked her about 20 times if she really wanted to do it, gosh darn it, she kept saying yes.:)

The USA Field Hockey NE Futures Program? For U-14, or for U-16?

I think the program is something like 7 practices, then a regional tournament. From that pool after the tournament they select players to advance to the regional training camp, and then up the line. I haven't checked on the program in a couple of years. Is the aforementioned pretty accurate?

She is in the U-14. There are 2 tiers in this group, Standard (her group), and tier 1 (kids that have been in the program).

You are correct about how they run the program to my understanding. This is her first year and she is excited for goalie only training. She will have 7 three hour practices with twelve other goalies coached by a graduate from Bloomsburg. The sessions start in nine days.

I know this is going to screw up my Lax team. I lose two of my best girls to Sem, and I lose my kid to field hockey.:)

Fun weekend. Her team was amazing with 4 wins and zero loses. The goalie did not get too many saves, as her team had the ball at the other end of the court most of the time.

But,

The coach asked her to step in for a U-16 game and it was amazing. She had at least 15 saves, the parents of the team were hugging, punching, and rubbing my head like I had something to do with it. (I do not know anything about FH). They tied the game at 1-1 and it felt like a victory for our team and a loss for the other.

After the game a parent from the other team was complaining about the goalie saying that she was not 15. I said that she was 12 and walked away. That was kind of cool.

The best part was the 2 hr drive to work, my kid actually talked to me the whole ride about that 1 game. She was stoked.
