PA HS Wrestling thread

These kids put it on the line and not scared of competition. I didn’t see it but someone told me last week they were in Colorado Springs, now competing at a college open in Clarion. Wash my mouth out with soap for what I am about to say, but no wonder kids want to go to places like this. Respect to these kids and their program. I am going to try to get over there now. May have to burn a sick day.

To each his own, but a freshman in HS competing in college opens is silly. I don't care if it is a Spencer Lee, Bo Bassett, or Miller.

I get needing better competition and getting a different feel which are all positives. The day will come where some 14 year old 'kid' gets a real injury being horsed around by a 20 year old 'man'.

Sure a few have faired pretty well in the past, but I think it's about 2 years premature.

Bo and Jax were both 16 this time last year, so not quite as bad as you're thinking but still a little more risk than I'd want my 16 year old to take. I'd be fine with my kid wrestling a "minor" college open at 17 if he were good enough to compete but not before.

Cary Kolat placed 3rd at Midlands (then the BIGGEST tournament in the country) when he was what, a Sophomore?
And probably the right age, too.

Guess we’ll see. I was a little surprised when I was told he’s coming back down, and that came from someone who talked to him.

Amazing wrestler and will be a good fit there. He will be tough to beat this year at Hershey. He will stay down at 121
He's always been my favorite FCA wrestler. I love how he wrestles from the front. We were always told 'stay behind his hips' -- but Botero never got that message. He's always been just fun to watch.

Could be the case. Either way I think he grew and looked awesome at super 32.
I will be shocked if Aaron isn't at 116 for states if he doesn't grow. He is big, but as we've noted he looked great at S32 at 113. That will be a brutal bracket at states - potentially Seidel, Smith, Bachman, Deputy, plus 2 or 3 other really, really good kids. Aaron is the favorite of course,

Bachmann and Deputy 107 most likely
Quite possible. I can't imagine how hard it must be for Dwp to get down there, but he just did. Bachman won't surprise me at 114 but never know. This Faith team is one for the ages and might get better next year. Crazy.

Faith has Bachman and Davidheiser to man 107/114. I'd expect most of the time it will be Davidheiser 107, and Bachman 114, but for the big tournaments and the postseason that switches up with Bachman going 107. No inside info, just a guess.

I'd agree unless descent plans get in the way. I'd love to see him at 114 as I think he tears up 107.

I think this Faith Academy could be one of the best PIAA teams of all time. They are like psu. They have multiple backups who would place at AA states. Then some kids who transferred in, had to transfers out cause they didn’t have a sport.
Any inside if they bump to AAA.

No inside info, but they may automatically get bumped with the new rules PIAA introduced about AA placements and transfers and such, but Faith has done most of its transfers at the MS level so they could be exempt. If the PIAA didn't make everything so complicated it would be easier to know

Looking at their team this year I would expect their lineup to look something like this
107/114: Bachmann/ Davdheiser
121/127: Botero/Brunner
133/139: Waltenbaugh/ M. Wagner
139/145: S.Wagner/ O'Brien
145: Hontz
152: Stein/ N. Singer
160: Weidmoyer/ C.Wagner
172/189: Waters/ Sugalski
215: J. Singer
285: Effendian
An insanely stacked lineup. If one of the Wagner twins/Waltenbaugh can make 127 (Which is doubtful) they have a chance for 13/13 state medalists. Not to mention the fact that some of their backups are state medalist caliber guys.

That doesn't go into effect until 2024/25. Teams start to accumulate points in that season.

They technically have zero transfers I’m pretty sure. I added up the transfers and success points and I’m pretty sure Notre Dame was the only team with a shot to get bumped up.

It was great to see Milheim starting and getting some action for American U. He got his first wins as well

Does anyone know if Landon Bainey is going to go this year for the warriors or sit out his senior year with the ankle?

I have heard Davidheiser is out at FCA, apparently replaced. A look at the roster and he is not listed. Im not sure where he os headed. Parents have houses in multiple school districts, including Benton.

Not surprising. That family has not been hesitant to move schools in the past.

I'd heard from some in that loop that there was an agreement that Bachman would stay 114 for the year. With that sounding more and more like it's not the case, this move isn't surprising, especially with another Bachman coming up next year who will probably be 107/114 for his career.

But, I think he would lose the post season if he leaves at this point. I think I'd stick it out.

Faiths roster on PA Wrestling (If accurate) is missing from last year:
Davidheiser
Gauge Botero
Jonny O’Brien
Shane Wagner
Luke Sugalski
My assumption is that these guys are not listed yet as a clerical error or some kind of issue with weight certifications/ something else. Otherwise there was a mass exodus at Faith. Which I highly doubt

Update:
Botero and Davidheiser still have Faith listed on their IG bios. Davidheiser reposted 2 fairh related things in the last 24 hours. O’brien i can’t tell at the moment. Luke Sugalski is now at Germantown Academy. Shane Wagner still has faith in his BIO and just was wearing Faith gear at the Surge. So i would assume Davidheiser, Botero and Wagner will all be all be added to the roster shortly. Possibly O’brien as well

Makes sense given his brother Gabe is already out there. Plus, that dual against Campbell drummed up a bunch of good exposure for them
