Pat Fitzgerald suspended 2 weeks in Northwestern hazing inquiry

Editor of student newspaper: "I interviewed not only former players but MANY CURRENT players".

Double UT OH.

Doubtful as a head guy although maybe he crawls back at tim buk tu state and eventually all the way back to a Power 5 program. I don't think he is a good enough coach sans any of this to make it back to a Power 5 job.

I live in Chicago and some were talking about the conundrum he faces trying to get another job. He has no experience as a coordinator and isn't really an Xs and Os guy. He jumped from LB coach to HC via the interim job after Randy Walker passed. His success as come from developing diamonds in the rough not recruiting and developing highly ranked guys. Leaves him in a bit of an awkward position. Not really a candidate for a Nick Saban rehabilitation per se.

I see him making a jump to the pros where he can use the x’s and o’s and no one will care about and alleged hazing. He may need so start small but if he is all that he will rise

Just because someone claims you made something up doesn't mean you made something up. Other former players claim it real. I'm sorry dude but your boy is fired and he ain't getting his job back.

There is no corroboration if a name isn't put on it. Anyone who believes what they read, didn't learn anything from what happened here.

The school says the claims were corroborated. I'm going to assume the schools legal department would not have allowed that to be included in their statement if it wasn't factual.

The president also indicated that all the information he had was in the report. The same report that he decided warranted a 2 week suspension. Didn't you learn anything from the Sandusky affair?

So if it comes out that it's all true/been corroborated, you're changing your opinion or you still going to think he got screwed? Is your issue with them changing the penalty? not thinking its fireable regardless of validity? Lotta people on here with incomplete information yet very entrenched opinions.

don't forget, coaches can't be present at "voluntary" practices due to practice limitations.

I totally agree on JoePa. He was tangentially involved with the first JS event (the one that investigators fully investigated) and was only involved in one or two meetings in the MM event. To this day, I have no idea how the second mile got off scot-free except that there must have been a lot of politicians involved.
Because the folks investigating the Second Mile conducted their investigation ethically and did not just make shit up like the ones investigating and prosecuting Sandusky, Curley, Schultz, and Spanier.

Also, no one had anything to gain financially by throwing a 2nd mile leader (not named Jerry Sandusky) under the bus.

yes and no. Curely, Schultz and Paterno were hammered as a sleight of hand to make sure the real money from the second mile and PSU escaped scrutiny.

I don't agree that the investigation was "ethical". There is no way on God's Green Earth that the second mile should have been allowing JS to take kids on trips without documentation and oversight. This is ESPECIALLY TRUE after the first incident. Any other executives would have been held accountable for not providing the necessary oversight to protect kids from predators.

Notice how this isn't even a story now other than Fitzgerald will sue them for the rest of his pay?

My point is everyone has incomplete information. I don't trust anything I read. Sara Ganim won a Pulitzer.

Memo: the suspension and then the dismissal were based on the same information .

He is suing them for much more than the rest of his pay - his lawyer has stated that they will also be seeking damages for Reputational Damage impacting potential career earnings, not just the remainder of his contract.

TSM WAS investigated by the Feds and Pennsylvania. Nothing was ever found. Take a read . It'll help you grow in this.

This. The sanctions at PSU only happened because of the tacit approval - hell, invitation - by PSU leadership. If PSU wasn't willing to go along with it, we never would have experienced any penalties let alone anything that severe.
Your football program would probably received the death penalty.

Yeah there is some of that. I think there was a ton of that with Joe. The A hole media getting their jollies by seeing him go down.
Joe benefitted from an image he and PSU created for years in the media. If you talk the talk you must walk the walk. Fame is a b*tch and will turn on you if you don't keep straight.

yeah...the very same politicians that turned a blind eye toward repeated lax practices. There is no ****ing way on God's Green Earth where the TSM shouldn't have had major restrictions on JS and other people after the initial JS incident. No way in ****ing hell could law enforcement convict Curley and Schultz for under-responding and letting the entire second mile go scot-free.

From the article you linked:

"Sadly, neither focused on political vindictiveness and corruption, which is exactly what happened here," Snedden said.

Obviously, nobody WANTED to find something wrong with TSM or its people. it appears they simply asked "did you know something" and "no" was just taken as a given. Sorry, I am not and won't buy it.

Even acknowledging that the Second Mile erred by not requiring documentation and oversight for Jerry’s trips with kids, was anything done by the Second Mile executives actually criminal? Since the Second Mile immediately shut down after Sandusky arrest, it wasn’t like they could be punished by losing government contracts, etc.

TSM didn't ever know about 1998 and as was reported, nothing was found at TSM.

"Penn Staters are still screaming for an investigation for years of The Second Mile," Bagwell said. "Well, it turns out there was an investigation."
"My overall view is that everything here [in the documents] seems to support the idea that The Second Mile didn't knowingly do anything wrong," Bagwell said. "The Penn Staters who are clamoring for heads at The Second Mile to roll, I don't think that's an outcome that's appropriate at this point in time."

My point is everyone has incomplete information. I don't trust anything I read. Sara Ganim won a Pulitzer.
Walter Duranty was a NYT reporter back when the Ukrainian Holodomor occurred. He helped Stalin cover up the mass starvation of millions and won a Pulitzer. Even after the truth came to light that Duranty was a stinking liar, the Pulitzer was not pulled from that publication by the committee. The Pulitzer isn't worth spit in my book.

Hey know it all, did you know the COB of The Second Mile was also the Chairman of the Centre County Republican Party and held a Fundraiser for standing PA AG's Gubernatorial Campaign at his own personal residence - the standing AG Governor Candidate, Tom Corbett, had initiated a GJ and was supposedly investigating TSM at the time of Fund Raiser at the TSM Chairman's personal residence (which Corbutt attended) - LMAO, that TSM was not politically protected.

Protected from the Feds too? Even your Joebot buddy Snedden says there was nothing there. BTW JoePa financially supported and was on the board of TSM. Quit believing in conspiracy theories.

TSM will not work as a deflection from the Sandusky/PSU/Paterno scandal. Even a strong JoeBot writer admits that much. Just no proof there.

You're completely full of shit - Paterno was not on BOD of TSM. Now you're just making shit up. Paterno went on record at the time of Sandusky's "Emeritus Retirement" (that Sandusky did not qualify for but the PSU Board of Trustees granted him) that he was absolutely against Sandusky being given the right to use the Lasch Building, and its facilities, for his Second Mile Charity. The PSU BOT also voted to sell a valuable 15 Acre lot on the edge of campus to a still Sandusky-led Second Mile shortly after his retirement for 10% of its mark value so Sandusky could build the Second Mile Campus Facility (complete with dorms, athletic facilities, etc...) he'd always dreamed of (complete with a State-Grant to facilitate the development of the facility).

You're utterly full of shit that Paterno was the PSU enabler of Sandusky and his perverted, fraudulent use of the Second Mile - it was the PSU BOT, not Paterno Bozo-boy.

Maybe not, but I bet he'd be pretty good at Vanderbilt.

I know corruption and cronyism when I see it. No way you go after curly, Shultz and Spanier and not the second Mile if not for cronyism and corruption.

You have to go after them all, or none. Going after the PSU officials and not the second Mile told me all I needed to know.

Who is this Wack-A Nole person anyway?

Why does he/she show up here?

Shouldn't he/she be eating crab legs somewhere in Florida?

There goes what "little" credibility that he/she might have had.
