Peacock - I’m not watching this stupid game

Relative to the Big Ten someone help me with their take on the streaming garbage. Is PS required to have one streaming game a year? If so that's a BS decision. Is it true that no lamestream broadcaster would pick the game up? Which of them wouldn't want to broadcast a Whiteout against a West Coast Team? These things don't add up for me.
We demanded a game in primetime. This is a way for NBC/Peacock to get people to buy a subscription and check out Peacock and maybe keep it. it adds up perfectly
We'd be on FOX instead of Ohio Stat-Purdue if we didn't make the demand

If it were only that simple....

Now do a graph depicting having to pay for MANY types of programming that you have no interest in, in order to access the relatively few that you do. And not allowing you to trade off any of this useless programming for something that you desire. Instead, they want you to pay more.

That's what I find most irritating vs the actual cost.

Although I live in FL now, I still receive emails from the Columbus, Ohio alumni chapter. I just received an email this morning that the planned game watch party for today has been unexpectedly cancelled. Apparently not a single bar in Columbus carries the Peacock network so there is no place to host the party. Hopefully word gets around to the national alumni association and athletic department to prevent this from ever happening again.

It's not just 8 bucks per month. It's your time to write down the account name and password, then store it somewhere and keep track of where it's stored. And then you have to take the time to cancel it and if you don't it's 8 more bucks a month until you do remember. It's the norm for these companies to push as much of the labor that makes them money onto the consumer.
The horra.

It took you longer to complain about it than it would take to subscribe and cancel. I’ll mail you $8 if it’ll stop the whining.

Peacock is just a part of the inflation problem and/or the need to continually grow corporate profits, or perhaps university "profits." What you are buying is not better than what you had been buying, though perhaps your TV screen is better. Getting fleeced is one thing. Adding more accounts to life and/or any type of new complexity will usually lose me. It must be something of considerable value.

The events of the last 12 years at Penn State caused considerable alienation -- the scandal, corruption, woke, DEI, NIL, ridiculous coaching salaries, the lack of discipline -- all of it. The result: The hurdle for my interest/payment is much higher. I no longer live and die with the results of a football team that, at most, is connected to my school by nothing more than its playing field and its uniforms. I certainly do not support the cultural drift, nor do I support the constant lowering of standards of conduct, standards of knowledge, and so on.

This is almost like being a recovering addict. I will probably be better off after I completely lose interest, when I can go a full season and not watch a single game. Long way to go.

The Rifleman! Classic!

As for Peacock, yeah, I was pretty dismayed too. Like, what?? A game of this magnitude is not available on a network channel? Ridiculous.

But I have Xfinity so did a little exploring...and think I can access it on my television.

Just in case, I bought a radio this week, which it would be good to have anyway. I mean, there are worse things than listening to Steve Jones and Jack Ham call the game if it comes to that.
There is a section in the Xfinity website for checking your perks, or something similar. I found it listed amongst a bunch of offers for other crap I wasn't interested in.

Signing up with actually fairly easy.

I posted this in another thread. You don't have to pay to watch it on Peacock.

1. Sign up for instacart
2. Start free 14 day trial of instacart+
3. Go into your instacart+ benefits and activate Peacock. You can watch free for the same 14 days that you have instacart+.

Another trick:
My email provider is protonmail. One of the benefits of protonmail is you can add a + symbol behind your email plus some additional text and it will still go to your inbox. Instead of using different email accounts, I can sign up for an unlimited number of free trials by just putting something different behind the + symbol. I'm on signup number 4 for instacart+/Peacock.

Gmail also allows you to add that + symbol but since it's a more common provider some companies have started blocking those + emails using gmail.

You lost me at "sign up for ..."

I’m right there with you. Even worse, we’re scheduling college visits for our daughter and Penn State is not even under consideration. I was all ready to make other plans for tonight when my wife informed me that Comcast gave us free Peacock when she had called recently about our internet service. So looks like I’ll be watching the game after all.

Granted, if you're going to watch stuff on Peacock other than just the game then it's a different story. But just be sure the stuff yyou're watching on Peacock isn't available for free elsewhere, otherwise you're paying for something unnecessarily. The other guy was all excited that all The Rifleman episodes were on Peacock when he could already get them on YouTube.
Not just Youtube. Tubi, Pluto TV, live channels if have a Roku device or TV and other free services all have "The Rifleman Channel". Nothing but The Rifleman 24/7 for free.

I have Xfinity so I checked and yes I get it for free on my account. Great news

LOL! You've come a long way from "I don't do business with frauds" and screaming that NBC is a fraud (and Russia State Media), to admitting that you use Comcast (the owner of NBC). Good times.

Now everybody who was taking a stand against Peacock is suddenly going to proclaim that they're getting it for free so they can try to cover up their silliness ... because they can't stop themselves from watching the game.

Peacock sucks. If you’re asking would I not watch a Penn State game free just because it’s on Peacock that’s as stupid as voting for someone with dementia or a low IQ because you don’t like the other candidate’s personality.

You said NBC is a fraud and you can't do business with frauds. Then admitted you pay for Comcast internet (the parent of NBC). You're doing business with frauds. Liar.

Besides, even if you're not paying for Peacock (chances are, you are, and you're lying about it), you're still supporting it by watching it in your household ... even for free.

Sigh, Kasparaitis is just another unprincipled whinypants.

Diamond and Platinum Xfinity customers can get free Peacock in Xfinity Rewards. If you have Internet and TV from them you’re likely in one of these tiers.

Gigabit or higher internet only customers also get free Peacock but you have to Google for the activation link.

We only have Internet but it’s Gigabit X2 - I activated our Peacock earlier.

Sounds like Tiger Woods. Didn’t he activate his peacock?

Sign up for free, receive email, unsubscribe, never hear from them again.

I have decided not to do anything and skip watching the game in protest.

So I vote NO on Proposition Twist Your Arm. You guys that are doing a temporary subscription are in effect voting for more of this nonsense. Some guy in a corporate office is counting new subscriptions and saying "it worked."

Knight, if worse comes to worse, you can listen on the radio. That's what I plan to do if I can't get it on Peacock.

I'm waiting to learn whether my Xfinity package in fact offers it for free. Being technologically challenged, I'm having a hard time puzzling this out.

I haven't paid a dime for cable or any streaming service or subscription in over 10 years so I'm not the one subsidizing this crap. I'm pretty sure they don't make their money on free trials that get canceled after 24 hours.

It’s extremely simple. Even someone with your barbaric, archaic beliefs can figure it out. Besides, don’t you have 47 kids and 889 grandkids? One of them can’t help you with basic functions like checking what cable/streaming services you have or can add?

I’m just listening to the radio broadcast on the app.

Here’s another absolutely stupid thing about Peacock. Rankings are extremely important for the playoffs and almost NO ONE saw our game yesterday. There’s no national articles about it, I haven’t seen highlights anywhere, ESPN has absolutely nothing about the white out, they didn’t even show our score on their feature scoreboard during the game!

It’s like we had a bye week and now the prognosticators who are doing their speculative rankings are pushing teams ahead of us who played similar or worse competition.

Peacock is absolutely BS and we should never play on that platform ever again.

I am with you dude. This is getting crazy as it’s not just Peacock. If you are a sports fan now you have to get Prime. And Netflix. And Hulu. Where will it stop🤷🏻‍♀️. It won’t

Makes it harder to find. Changing channels during commercials or worthless halftime shows is a long delayed pain in the 🫏. Expensive. And very disrespectful.

They know a lot of people won’t do it and don’t give a damn. They know a lot of people aren’t tech savy and don’t give a damn. They know this screws up a lot of peoples plans and don’t give a damn.

Over the many years I have learned the worst thing one can do is reward bad behavior. Doing so just generates more bad behavior. In 5-10 years every game will be on some streaming device or pay-per-view.

It’s like rewarding your girlfriend for throwing a temper tantrum. Reward her for doing so and before you know it your wife will throw a temper tantrum. Then soon your other girlfriend repeats the same behavior.

Better to nip this in the bud, boys. Kill it before it grows!
I followed the game on cbs game tracker. It was like reading a book instead of watching the movie. Surprisingly entertaining in a different way

It was a great game. Good, but not great, broadcast. Sad that you missed it just to prove a point to absolutely no one.

I don’t have to prove a point to anyone. I listened to the radio broadcast and that was fine. But as we’re trying to jockey for a playoff spot and home/away scenarios, the ranking matter and Peacock caused PSU to be invisible yesterday.
