Penn State Defensive Coordinator Tom Allen set to leave for Clemson
Penn State will have to look for a new Defensive Coordinator once again as Tom Allen is heading to Clemson.

It was a beyond painful loss that PSU should have won. ND opened around a 2-point favorite and PSU closed around a 1-point favorite. Calling ND "inferior" is a bit of a stretch.loss to an inferior Notre Dame team.
Never liked the guy as a coach and now I can just add this to my list of reasons why. Oh Well.Penn State Defensive Coordinator Tom Allen set to leave for Clemson

you don't want Manny back?Whatever the hell you do, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST do not hire anyone or anything from the ACC or Big 12.
Obviously Tom Allen was interviewing while preparing for the ND game. It is not a stretch to say he was likely distracted in his preparation for the game.
Every coach is out for themselves. It's a job.someone who is just out for themselves and not all in on Penn State.
I do not doubt that at all.I very much doubt this.
First there is only so much preparation you can do.
Second, Allen is a known commodity.

But he obviously didn't believe Penn State could help him achieve his goals by making a lateral move and taking another DC position. Manny Diaz, Brent Pry, and AK think differently.Every coach is out for themselves. It's a job.
Did an OK job for the most part, but defense at times looked unprepared and was slow to adjust. Oregon game, for example.OI’m fine with him leaving tbh.
On Friday he ponders what he wants to do next in his career. Saturday he determines he wants to be a DC down south. On Sunday he looks at the opportunities. He interviews on Sunday night and gets the job Monday morning. BS. Tom Allen is a scumbag of the worst kind, and he should be judged in PSU history as responsible for the defensive collapse versus Notre Dame because he was distracted, looking for other opportunities when he should have been preparing.I very much doubt this.

We can do better. I hope!Did an OK job for the most part, but defense at times looked unprepared and was slow to adjust. Oregon game, for example.
Manny felt like more of a loss because in addition to having good defenses he seemed to relate to the players really well and was a great recruiter. I didn't hear much about Allen this year outside of game day.He was fine. Not great but good. I’d grade him a solid B/B+
Would have been fine if he stayed yet not upset really at all that he’s leaving
Poindexter is in it for himself too. Just FYITom Allen did not recruit or develop the championship level defensive talent we had this year. Good for him for being in the right place and the right time to lift his coaching stock. But I think a lot of coaches could have done what he did with the talent we have. My preference would be for CJF to promote Dex instead of someone who is just out for themselves and not all in on Penn State.
JF hired Manny from the ACC...just sayinWhatever the hell you do, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST do not hire anyone or anything from the ACC or Big 12.
That's why I used the word "and". We're all out for ourselves to some extent. But I want someone who believes Penn State is the place to get them where they want to be.Poindexter is in it for himself too. Just FYI
Fair enough. I just don't think "all in" exists in this era at the assistant level. Doesn't make me right. That's why I used the word "and". We're all out for ourselves to some extent. But I want someone who believes Penn State is the place to get them where they want to be.
Wut? Why would Allen go to an ACC school if he wants to coach in the SEC?It could just be money. Clemson may be able to spend more for coordinators than PSU does. Or maybe Allen wants to coach in the SEC -- one more stop before he lands another HC position.
PSU D performed well this year so I doubt it was lack of appreciation for his work.
which is why one can't really fault the players for doing the same thing...hate what CF has become..Every coach is out for themselves. It's a job.

Do you think Franklin had any idea? And if so..both agreed to keep quiet till after the playoff run..AND..one would think that Franklin has a few people in mind already ? Does he go outside ? or anyone worth being promoted within ? is it crazy to think a Lavar Arrington ? Terri Smith ? Dan Connor ? Sean Spencer ?This hire was probably settled a month ago.
And between then and now he has been focused on PSU.

The schedules were much different so it's difficult to compare PSU to ND. Recruiting rankings have been similar but I think PSU had the talent edge largely due to the players from the #6 class of 2022.It was a beyond painful loss that PSU should have won. Please stay away from sharp objects. And don’t go near the pets of any acquaintances or neighbors you may have with a pot of boiling water. On Friday he ponders what he wants to do next in his career. Conner has seemingly done an excellent job this year, and has likely earned an elevated status/raise ….but I’d be surprised if it was all the way to DC ( as , ironically, he’s been “DC” all his life 😎…I’ll let myself out)
