Football Penn State earns victory No. 5, defeating Big Ten newcomer UCLA on Saturday

The thread started to see you cry my dear child.
Weird--everyone's upset that I don't agree with nonsense and I'm the one crying--who brought it into this thread
I know me being better than you upsets you but come to terms with it--you could learn a lot

Rough first half today no doubt about it. I think the defense will settle in, in the second half a bit more now with a half of seeing Martin. Offensively, obviously ugly. WR drops playing a big factor early.

So calling penalties is optional.

Correct. That's where his idiotic line of "reasoning"' has led him. Call a penalty, don't call a penalty ... none of that matters. According to him, every penalty ever called in college football could have NOT been called, and that would be OK. I'm not exaggerating ... that's his stance now. Rules? We don't need no stinkin' rules. He backs himself into complete idiocy when he can't fabricate a reasonable argument to support one of his stances.

Some of that is correct--most plays could have penalties called or not called.
Refs are human and will make errors just like players and coaches

I had to start watching late, catching up with the DVR. Is Carter playing today? All I've notices so far are DDS, Vanover,...

Nice drive capped off by Warren TD. Fleming, Clifford. Wallace and Warren all involved in passing game on drive.

From game to game and opponents they are not. Calling the on side kick offside and today is consistant?

From game to game/opponents to opponents--it's not the same refs
When was someone offside on a kick today?

"Some" of that is correct? Now you're disagreeing with yourself? Awesome. Go away.

Maybe that's how we can fix this ... get you to argue with yourself in one thread, taking opposite extremist stances ... and you'll chase your tail in perpetuity, and leave the rest of the board alone.

The guy from Memphis is basically only good under 40--they want someone who can handle all of it IMO (opinion)

I see what you did there. Lol

Good except it makes ND's win over A& M look better.

We both play USC. That's gonna mean more than the week 1 game IMO.

Also, Missouri has a sneakier way into the playoff. Taking this loss is great for us (if it sticks).

I'm perfectly content with the ground-and-pound, wear-out-the-clock offense, with occasional shots to keep the defense honest. It's not flashy, but it's a tried and true way to win games.

Totally agree, but with the way the game is played today, I don't think you can beat the good teams unless you have a fully functional passing game with a QB who can sling the rock.

You saw it in both those scoring drives. Drew's ability to hit his receivers...and their ability to get open and catch the ball...were critical and helped set up the running attack.

Of course it is not the same refs, hence inconsistency.
There is a decided advantage when defense is offside. On an on side kick not all when ball has to go 10 yards.
So at least you admit officials are inconsistent and officials use judgement, sometimes not good judgement.

The game has to be called consistently for both teams which they are
I disagree--it's way bigger when offisde on an onside kick--and the defensive player being offside had no impact on our play
Officiating crews are inconsistent from one to another but that's not the discussion. Why do you care if the game is called fair?

No doubt. I agree. Those shots are essential to keep the defense honest. Fast-scoring offenses are fun, but I prefer giving the defense some rest. It's a nice change of pace.

Minny was not offside on kickoff last week. You must have the vision of Mr. Magoo or a B1G ref.
They were--the photo and the replay shows that. The Big Ten statement reinforced it.
Not sure why you're all still worried about a game that didn't impact us but...
