Penn State - Lehigh Dual Thread

McHenry, looks stronger than his years at meatchicken. Plus he is the best backup at 125- 133.
Possibly, but I would guess Levine, Steen or Garcia at 133 for Lehigh if B. Davis doesn't go. Would probably lean Levine or Garcia after results at Black Knight.

Who would we see at 133? Nasdeo? McHenry?
I'd send Garcia. He at least was competitive with Berginc.

McHenry is the best pure wrestler of the backups, but he's short for a 125. He'll have a major reach disadvantage.

Plus any 125 will likely get mauled physically -- we've been told Crookham in 10th grade benched approximately 2 elephants.

IMO you gotta get Davis in there to get a feel for him.
What does Crookham do, that Davis can't get a feel for by training with his teammates and coaches and the NLWC guys?

On the chance they meet at nationals.

IMO that's more of allowing Crookham to get a feel for Davis, as Lehigh does not have the same depth and variety of training partners.

Crookham has Stanich, who has a couple impressive wins and only a loss to Mendez in unattached action so far.

Would not be at all surprised if B. Davis sits out the Lehigh dual as well. And not just because of Crookham, but also for more recovery time.
The Lehigh dual is 3 weeks after his injury occurred. If he still needs recovery time after 3 weeks then the injury would be very serious and I have not seen any indication that this is true.

I don't see any reason to rush him back. It's not like we need his points to win the match.

He was a maybe last weekend. And might possibly be a maybe for Lehigh.

It's early in the season. Let's give him time to get healed up and back in shape.

So Barr vs Beard? What do people think? Does the wily veteran give the kid a lesser to learn on? Does Barr win and announce his presence with authority (to quote Nuke Laloosh)?

What say you, all-knowing board?
I believe with the experience that Barr has wrestling AB, Carter, Cael, and others, Beard won’t show him anything he hasn’t seen many times.

In addition, if Beard’s gas tank is suspect as it has been in past years, Barr will take it to him in the third period.

I predict Barr by decision, 11-8. We’ll see how this ages 😉

One thing to consider, Michael Beard is another animal in duals. It makes sense when he gets a good bit of time off the scale and he knows he only is going 7 minutes in all likelihood and he can just empty the tank going all out. That mentality unfortunately is what has caused Michael to dimish Day 2 of tournaments.

If Josh can beat Beard in this dual, it makes me extremely confident he can win the whole thing in March since I think Josh will be a brilliant tournament wrestler.

Either way, it'll be a tremendous learning experience.

Match is officially "sold out" per an email from Lehigh. Only secondary market tix available. Glad they brought this back to PPL. Stabler just doesn't cut it for this matchup.
Well, this post should get Tan Tom on his soapbox regarding Rec Hall again… just saying.

That's quite a statement considering Ferrari and Buchanan are there.

AJ Ferrari isn't a threat to do anything. The guy hasn't done any meaningful wrestling for 4 years (and he is NOT Steveson-caliber...) even if he's on the mat and not in jail by March.

Buchanan has looked good so far and may be the favorite for the title right now, but he's not unbeatable (although he did MD Beard last year...).

But Buchanan is getting a year in "the best lightweight room in the country". ;)

I have Barr over Beard, btw. I think a lot of people are sleeping on Barr. It reminds me of when Mark Hall said Starocci was a future national champ during Starocci's redshirt year. Starocci put the same tag on Barr. I believe him.

What a comedown from AB. Man, he demolished Buchanan.

We'll see this weekend, I hope. It certainly wouldn't shock me to see Barr ascend to that level since we've seen it so many times under Cael, but I haven't seen enough of him in big matches to be confident in it yet. I wasn't confident in Carter in his RSFR year until he actually beat Kem in the finals. Barr's and C-Star's RS years are remarkably similar, though.
