Qb’s don’t enter the portal to be back ups. Hopefully Pribula does not leave, and we have a kid coming in as a true freshman.Need a portal qb now and I don't give a crap about "nobody portals for depth".

For starters, you bench the guy who cannot focus the first half and give a lead large enough to get your back ups meaning second half game reps. Allar looks to be gifted... but really... how many meaningful game reps did he get...This is really going to be a big issue moving forward. How do you keep a working QB room if the guy that isn't the starter leaves to try to be a starter somewhere else?
You have to recruit your team harder than the HS kids now.
its the new normal. I read something like 60% of starting QB's came to the team via the transfer portal. I can think of five very good ones off the top of my headThis is really going to be a big issue moving forward. A QB pipeline from State College to Kentucky......if other schools could and develop them, why not. I really liked following Levis.I wish him well but hope Allar is just clearly better......don't wanna hear "he never got a chance here."
So Kentucky would be our JV team? Pennslytucky?A QB pipeline from State College to Kentucky......if other schools could us and develop them, why not. I really liked following Levis.

Or another reason…we wouldn’t know because we’re not involved in the team. But some players are much in actual game action than practice. Pretty common. It’s why you sometimes see some unknown kid explode in the middle of the season.
He played well when in. Clifford was pretty banged up in the second half of last year’s Illinois game. Unless Velliux was also hurt or ill, he should have went in.
Which coaches are getting valuable time for multiple QB’s because I haven’t seen any. In all the games I’ve watched it’s always the QB1 playing.I was very disappointed he didn't get more meaningful time this year, and as another poster pointed out, that he didn't get much time in last year's let-down bowl.
Based on limited observation, he seemed to have a lot of ability. I hope he succeeds wherever he goes.
Agreed. Allar looked good when he played. Really, all you can do is trust in the staff. They see the kids in practice and in film study, etc. We don't. There are a lot of intangibles in terms of leadership, level headedness, ability to get more out of those around him. As you say, there is no substitute for game experience but there really aren't a lot of options to get it.But some players are much in actual game action than practice. Pretty common. Michigan's #2 had 25 passing attempts for 180 yards.
tOSU's second teamer passed 20 times for 190 yards.
Allar had 59 for 344 yards
Agreed. I was trying to give the situation context. How many reps are good? I feel like NW was an opportunity but the weather was so bad and our RBs kept fumbling. In many games, we didn't really hit the gas until the third quarter. Both of our brethren had more blowouts than we did as well. They chose to pad stats.
We got Allar reps, but we didn't have him slinging it like we wanted 21 more points.
Well, my point was no one, including coaches, really know how a kid will preform in a real game …..until he is in a real game. V played quite well one game….better than Clifford did later on after he was re-injured against Illinois.Or another reason…we wouldn’t know because we’re not involved in the team.

Head coaches have become very gunshy about playing backup QBs. Including pros. Seems like no matter the score backups don’t get in until the final three minutes when all they do is hand off or take a knee.Agreed. Allar looked good when he played. Clifford was injured against Illinois and could barely play. One reason reason we lost it.It was Rutgers.
Agreed. And, they hate to invest only to have them xfer.Head coaches have become very gunshy about playing backup QBs. Including pros. Seems like no matter the score backups don’t get in until the final three minutes when all they do is hand off or take a knee.
Coaches hate QB controversies and do anything to avoid them. They hate having fans and media and chat room experts second guessing them. It’s not they care about fans or media but they see how it divides teams and causes problems with players, especially the QBs.
Yes. And that issue will likely cause backup QBs to get more playing time.Agreed. And, they hate to invest only to have them xfer.

Sums it up quite nicely.I was supporting your point 100%. Good reps? Very tough, very good question.
Purdue was great reps. 2 first downs in a competitive game, Warren dropped the beauty, Allar failed to run for a 3rd FD.
Michigan was good reps. Didn't produce anything, but he had another great read that was dropped (Wheel to Singleton), and some live action vs a defense with its ears pinned. Fast pace, toughest pass rush. Irreplaceable game speed moments.
Ohio and Indiana were good reps. Effective 2 TD performances. Playbook was open. Got to sling it. Evaluation reps against outmatched opponents.
The rest? Average. Limited playbook. Wasn't quite kneel downs, but the offense wasn't actively trying to score.
For sure...lots of teams could want at least an upgrade in their QB battle. If Iowa doesn't get McNamara I'd expect them to chase CV or someone similar. It seems like at least a quarter to a third of the P5 starting QB's came through the portal. So we could see CV land at a P5 school.
The number the NCAA is using is just under 47%It seems like at least a quarter to a third of the P5 starting QB's came through the portal. So we could see CV land at a P5 school.
Allar got more action than most, with that said, the book is still out.Agreed. Allar looked good when he played. Really, all you can do is trust in the staff. The first of many. College football is a business now, not just a sport.Penn State QB Christian Veilleux enters transfer portal
Penn State’s Christian Veilleux will enter the transfer portal.pennstate.rivals.com
As has been true for decadesThe first of many. College football is a business now, not just a sport.
Only issue is that Harbaugh APPEARS to have played McNamara, giving him the hope of being the starter while really intending to sit him as soon as McNamara couldn't transfer.I think everyone expected this and wishes Christian well. He gave a glimpse of what he's capable of in the Rutgers game last year.
Very classy farewell on his part. I'm pretty sure he'll play somewhere next year and wouldn't be surprised at all if it's as a starter.
In related news that surprises nobody, Cade McNamara (Michigan) also announced for the portal today. There's a guy who led the Wolves to a playoff spot last year and then found himself relegated to the bench this whole season. Talk about a bitter pill to swallow. But hard to argue it wasn't the right call on Harbaugh's part after last Saturday.
Are you sure you're not a transistor? As has been true for decades
Was it less of a business when agents were buying Curtis Enis suits in the 90's or it was it just not put on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, a podcast, A radio show or whatever content based business that sucks up your attention and proliferates small things into big things with a simple push notification to your hand held God?It is CLEARLY more of a business today with even less loyalty than it was in 1990.
Clearly today, we wouldn't even blink at someone buying a suit. Enis got suspended. Was it less of a business when agents were buying Curtis Enis suits in the 90's or it was it just not put on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, a podcast, A radio show or whatever content based business that sucks up your attention and proliferates small things into big things with a simple push notification to your hand held God?
I don't think so, its just the optics of it. From a monetary standpoint most of the same things were happening all along. The single biggest event to change college football and usher it into the ritz, glitz and glamour of it all, was January 2, 1987. But nothing has really changed except how we viewed it and how it was marketed. The perks came in different form for Jack Ham as they do for Abdul Carter, but make no mistake Jack Ham had the greatest perks available to an athlete at the time.Really, your example makes my point, no?
Again it's been.a business for years. Loyalty was forced by rules restricting kids from leaving. It was loyalty at all when you think about it.Are you sure you're not a transistor?
You seem to have only two states - one and zero.
It is CLEARLY more of a business today with even less loyalty than it was in 1990.
So, 100% a business and zero loyalty?Again it's been.a business for years. Loyalty was forced by rules restricting kids from leaving. It was loyalty at all when you think about it.
On on hand I respect Franklin for not running up the score by having Allar hand the ball off, on the other, I would like to have seen him pass the ball a lot more. One thing I did notice is it appeared they were calling passing plays when Allar was playing. Allar was calling out adjustments for blocking and WR routes. They then would audible out and run the ball. So concept wise it left like he was getting a feel for running the offense.Agreed. I was trying to give the situation context. How many reps are good? Yeah, Allar should be ready to go by Game 1 in 2023:On on hand I respect Franklin for not running up the score by having Allar hand the ball off, on the other, I would like to have seen him pass the ball a lot more. Two challenging games there: WVU will be a grudge match against a decent opponent in Allar's first start. WVU is Pitt lite.Yeah, Allar should be ready to go by Game 1 in 2023:
And then the schedule:
- Two off-season practice and conditioning years
- Decent amount of action in 2022
- O-Line looking good
- Running back situation looking very good
- Receivers? -- a bit of a question mark, but Allar has the time to click with those on the roster and there could be a portal addition that would help
2023 PENN STATE FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
Sept. 2 West Virginia
Sept. 9 Delaware
Sept. 16 at Illinois
Sept. 23 Iowa

Oct. 14 UMass
Oct. 21 at Ohio State
Oct. 28 Indiana
Nov. 4 at Maryland
Nov. 11 Michigan

Nov. 25 at Michigan State
What are the chances of going to Columbus undefeated?
Pretty good, I'd say.
BTW, Former Michigan QB Cade McNamara transferred to Iowa so that could be a tough game as well.Yeah, Allar should be ready to go by Game 1 in 2023:
