Football Penn State set to hire Ohio State DC Jim Knowles as Defensive Coordinator

Against Ohio State? Damn right it's the defense. And your claim of 26 because of the scoop and score makes zero sense when you consider that Clifford had maybe his greatest game ever in the shoe taking that offense to 24 points with one receiver and an average line. Penn State has lost to OHIO State because of defense failure more than offensive failures. The story line in every one of those games involves Penn State unable to get a defensive stop when they needed it. Fact.

LOL.

Diaz pitched a terrific game in 2023. You hold that OSU team to 20 points in the Shoe, and yet Allar turns in one of the worst performances you'll ever see from a QB. And it's the defense's fault?

This team holds OSU to 20 this year (and scores a pick 6), and yet our offense musters up a grand total of two f****** field goals - all while AK completely shits the bed on the goal line. And it's the defense's fault?

Are we watching the same games? 😆😂🤣

Damn I could have sworn that Ohio State just won a national championship because their defense stopped Texas on four downs inside the five with a 99 yard scoop and score, and before doing that, completely shutting down a record setting Oregon offense in the rose bowl. My bad 😂

All day
I'll be very curious to see if this takes our recruiting to the next level too.

You know nothing.

Franklin fought to take this program - which was decimated - and pull it up by the bootstraps. He fought to rebuild its reputation. He fought the Joebots. He fought for better facilities. He fought in a climate where there wasn't a ton of talent in his backyard, and nearly infinite scholarships to give. He fought to bring top assistants in here. He fought, in a short period of time, to take this run-down program with HUGE warts and turn it back into a top performer. And all you pathetic, whiny biznatches can do is scream that you deserve more, and he needs to go. If you had any self-awareness, you'd be utterly embarrassed of yourself.
Terrific post! Agree 100%

But hey, I'm sure once we get Ryan Williams and Jeremiah Smith to transfer in, we're set.......right? Yep, nothing to see on the offensive side of the ball. We're good!
Just because you don't have Marvin Harrison, Egbuka and Smith out there doesn't mean you need to be the 79 Chargers, or the 84 Dolphins, or the 82 Bengals
..
By the way none of them won s super bowl because they couldn't stop anyone when it counted.

You are trying way too hard. Penn State just pulled off the most stunning success since the death of the program in 2011 and you are looking more and more like a good ole Buckeye who is throwing darts at it.

You're a weird dude. I'm honestly not sure what you're even responding to.

Our own insiders have reported (over on On3) that the Larry Johnson stuff was what cracked the door open for all of this. The media has been all over this for like a year. Is that even a debate? I don't think anybody contests he's a great DC, but he clearly didn't get the control he wanted at OSU. That's literally why we're having this conversation now, LOL.
He is a great coach and will do a great job for you guys. I am a little perturbed that he had no loyalty to his current players, and I don't think this is a matter of money but probably more a matter of control.

As others have mentioned, there seems to be an issue between Knowles and LJ. Day called LJ the greatest line coach in college history at the national championships celebration today. This year Ohio state's defense improved tremendously after the first Oregon game and in particular the linebackers were much improved which I attribute to James laurinaitis. The change in the defensive coordinator will probably hamper recruiting a little bit but if there was friction it is just as good to get it behind everybody. When Ryan day goes outside of Ohio State legacy coaches, he has a good record of choosing assistant coaches. For instance, Jeff Hafley was a really good defensive coordinator when Day first became head coach.

The real insider take in this is that the Alumni Association CEO was fired two weeks ago, every insider I have spoken with in the past week has said that our NIL INSTANTLY BULLETED up to a top 5 level, on par now with the very ones that we had all but conceded the near future to.

THAT'S what is really happening right now. Something very very deep happened and those who make decisions, have now joined together in unison, and the sleeping giant...woke up.

Holy hell, 😂... while arguing with "Nittany" Illinois, I almost forgot....

4 straight pages without a peep from "Penn State fan" Lando 😂..not a "we" or an "us" I sight.

That's just so strange how on a glorious day like this, and the best hire in the program in decades, a true PENN STATE guy like Lando has just Vanished?!! 😂

What happened to "we" and "us" Lando?

You guys just can't do it can you? You cannot even say his name 😂😂😂

I think those four defensive games to the title, you just got to give it up to the equipment manager, the ball boys, the student manager, Kirk Herbstreits great aunt, Woody Hayes long lost great grand daughter and last but not least, Earle Bruce's grandsons dog "Champ".

😂

That is interesting. Lando is in mourning I am sure. My board experience has improved with Lando on ignore.

Everything you said here is factually incorrect. What Franklin did do is take over the most talented roster he has coached to date, run it into the ground by hiring incompetent assistant. Since then, the team has gotten soft, dirty, and lost to every single good team we have played. His last quality win was in the bowl game against Washington following the 2017 season, which most consider his best team but we were still the third best team in the Big Ten in a down year for Michigan. That is Franklin in a nutshell.

Very interesting indeed. Biggest success Penn State football has had in decades and a true PENN STATE Fan like Lando has literally disappeared from the board.
This is nonsense. We lost to the only three good teams on the schedule. That is not the biggest success in decades. It isn't even the biggest success in the Franklin years when the bar has been set very low. Beat scrubs, lose to every good team and call it a success.

There's plenty of money for players now, and Penn State isn't remotely done in the portal.
Problem is the portal is closed until after spring practice and the players who enter are usually those who aren't happy with their place in the lineup at that point.

You are clueless. Jesus, what an asinine take to write all that bullsh&t.

This, making the playoffs, and winning 2 games. However, no one is gonna miss that dude.

JIM KNOWLES TO PENN STATE!

INSTANT REACTION PODCAST

He is a native of Pennsylvania - believe he was born, and raised, in Philly.

Knowles was born and raised in PA - not a duhO$U (or duhOhio) legacy guy in any way, shape or form.

OMG that is the funniest post of the year!!! Well done! lololol What a clown

LOL. The classic troll claim.

"Downgrade the hire". I've probably said 10 times on here I love the hire. I've also taken the time to actually educate myself on why this hire occurred in the first place.

Lean in closer so I can whisper this to you.

It's not because Knowles suddenly dreamt of being a Nittany Lion.

The difference between you and me is that while we both love the hire, you apparently are ready to hang banners for offseason championships. Me? Let's see how we fix our WR mess and beat a top-5 team for the first time in a decade. Because we'll need to do that about 4 times next year, and it's not our defense that's the problem.

LOL.
Our defense is actually a significant part of the problem.

Every year at least one team in the final 4 never beat anybody. How does that work?

Of course beat beat everyone we should have which is more than you can say for pretty much every other team. What's that worth?

Were you perturbed when OSU hired LJ or is it a one way street?

Our defense is a significant problem? Yikes. This year defensively we were 6th in yards per game and 8th in ppg. Last year we were 1st in ypg and 3rd in ppg. How is our defense a significant problem?

Ohio State now says Knowles can't recruit 🤣.

I suppose that was the tooth fairy that pulled in 10 of those 11, and then the Easter Bunny that pulled in Downs from Alabama 😂.

Wait! My bad! with the Other side of their necks, they are saying it was all about Ryan Day making the adjustments and LJ winning the arguments in the room, and the players after all were nothing special 😂

My God I love this. This should be declared a national holiday. Penn State hired the best in the nation and on the same day Lando has wet $hit rubbed all over his face with pages and pages of receipts! 😂
Knowles was great for OSU. But he doesn't do a lot of the off-campus recruiting. He let's his assistants do that. It was a topic of much debate among OSU fans. Not sour grapes, just is what it is.

I think Wally and LoadoInTheCommodo might be one in the same troll.
Not a chance. I deep-sixed ol' Wally a long time ago. Lando may not be for everyone, but he has some good insightful posts. WB was, and I'm sure remains, a total wanker. Best to ignore his every post and to forget about him. In fact, I had forgotten about him until this thread brought his name up again.

Delco is an odd one who doesn't know ball. Our offense has scored ONE TD total in the last 2 matchups vs OSU. But, it's mostly the defenses fault. What a bozo
