Basketball Penn State's Ace Baldwin named to Big Ten preseason All-Conference team

Returning almost all of the important guys from last year and getting some added scoring in transfers, I think that as long as the two big guys can hold their own defensively, this team can finish high enough to get in the tournament
Bold prediction since some think we'll finish dead last in BiG.

Going to be muddled with the new teams but around 12 of the 18 will get in, we’ll be on that bubble if the bigs can play solid. We have scoring and perimeter defense, just need solid defensive rebounding.

Plus our Head Coach and Staff are more settled and a year wiser. Knowing the places we'll play and stay matters (except for new teams).

Routines on the road were new experiences for everyone. Rarely does anyone knock it out of the park in their first at bat....certainly not in PSU hoops anyway

One other big factor: Hicks needs to man up and play the more aggressive game that we saw at times last year. I was at the Temple opener 2 years ago when they lost to Wagner. Hicks clearly had skills- but he was passive, deferred too much on offense and got lost in the game- ultimately losing in f-ugly fashion to a completely overmatched team that out hustled, out muscled and then got lucky vs the Owls.

After having the bigs be competitive- I think him and Puff are the fulcrums- with Zach having the potential for more upside to be a difference maker.

Should be an interesting year....

Last? I don't see that happening.
I don't either but I do think it's going to be difficult for PSU to finish with a winning record. That's a heck of a thing for a team that has a 1st team all conference player.

What do you expect from the bigs? We picked up Niederhauser from Northern Illinois but he didn't do much there the past two years. The only other big man is freshman Miles Goodman who was highly rated but he's young and only weighs 205 lbs. I think this team is going to get dominated in the paint.

Jahvin Carter will be an interesting addition at the guard position..

Neiderhauser probably starts and then Goodman comes off then bench and Nzeh (from Xavier) probably gets a back up role for a few minutes here and there. None are scorers, but they dont have to as PSU now has 6 or 7 guys who could get 20+ on a given night. Those three playing the 5 need to combine for 6 - 10 pts a night and get double figure rebounds and maybe block a couple shots.

Almost certainly will be a five out offense and probably do more pressure defensively, even some trapping zone. Ace, Kern, Hicks, Puff probably start with Dunn, Rice and Dilione able to come off the bench and score, plus they all are big guards. The freshmen, Carter was a big time scorer and Stewart can play both guard spots so maybe they make the rotation. Easily the most talented group of wings we've ever had, can they share the ball and play together.

Neiderhauser averaged 4 rebounds in the MAC.

7 pts 4.4 reb 2.1 blocks in under 20 minutes a game.
I don't want to crap on the kid but I don't have a lot of confidence that the 26th ranked rebounder in the MAC is going to be a top rebounder in the BiG.

Yeah, and they’re slightly better than what John Harrars numbers were after his second year. I get it, it’s not the Big Ten conference, but this isn’t team that’s asking him to do more than play interior defense and rebound.

I’m not saying he’ll have the same impact as JH but the kid didn’t even average 20 minutes a game last year. So if you double that production you would get 14 nine and four from your post player. Those are pretty good numbers for a team that’s going to have four guards on the floor 90+ percent of the time.
