Pitt fans say the darndest things

I actually feel bad for him when I see him having to speak publicly. It's clearly not his strength, although it comes with the job and the salary. He always seems very anxious when on camera.

That might well be the recruiting issue right there. The guy never took an oral communications class when he was in school.

Kenny Pickett is Pitt's best hope -

“At the end of each day, we would play seven-on-seven, pickup-style football. And of course every kid at the camp is saying they’re wide open, ‘Throw me the ball,’” Klein said. “And finally Kenny had enough, and he said, ‘I have one football, and I’ll throw it to whoever gives us the best chance to score.’ For him to have that kind of moxie at such a young age was impressive.”

Now, all eyes are on Pickett to use that same moxie toward improving the Panthers’ 5-7 record from last year — a challenge he’s looking forward to.

“Now that I’m the number one quarterback coming in, I’ve gotta be the leader of the whole entire offense,” Pickett said. “I’ve gotta be the guy that everyone looks to for advice and information.”

For Pickett, the turnaround from backup to team leader in just one season is certainly an adjustment. Head coach Pat Narduzzi talked about the quick maturation of his young signal-caller.

“With Kenny, it’s night and day. Last year during spring camp, he was walking around in a daze, just sorta wondering what facility he was in,” Narduzzi said. “But he’s grown and matured, and he’s confident now. He’s the leader out there, he gets the guys going.”

Pickett’s mindset is not the only thing that’s changed since the beginning of last season — he’s also made physical progress, entering spring camp at a full 15 pounds heavier than this time last year.

For Naduzzi, this is about the best he can do when it comes to building something. Three blocks are all his tiny brain can handle.

I think he might of got lucky with Kradel
itt football head coach Pat Narduzzi landed his fourth recruit in the class of 2018 Tuesday afternoon as 6-foot-4 offensive lineman Jake Kradel committed to the program.

Kradel announced his decision on Twitter, saying, “… I am extremely proud and excited to commit to The University of Pittsburgh to further my academic and athletic career.”

247Sports lists Kradel as a 3-star recruit and the 25th best player in the state of Pennsylvania. He attended high school in nearby Butler, but despite his solid play, the Golden Tornado collected only two wins this past season.

I really miss the Captain over there. He was quite entertaining and he had the Lair following him like a cult.I loved his Franklin can't make in game ajustments,Franklin can't keep assistents,Franklin ruined Hack,Franklin's all talk,Franklin's all show. The best of all Psu abused the Clery Act.His favorite quote" Coach Pat is a defensive genius." I hear the Captain runs the souvenir shop at Meadowcroft Village at Avella,Pa since he lost his bartenders job at Whitney's.

I think Crapstain's employer put the lid on him and his 4 dozen nics. His hero JockstrapJohn has been silent, as well as the rest of the PennLive idiot den.

Had a life long friend who is a Pitt fan state, in my house, that it is "only common sense" that everyone at Michigan State and Penn State knew exactly what was going in with respect to Nassar and Sandusky. According to him to believe otherwise is our naiveté. Obviously that is nonsensical, but I guess the Pitt fandom blinds rational thinking. Things quickly degenerated into a very hostile exchange...and this is 7 years out from 2011 and completely out of left field in the evenings conversation (never discussed it with him previously). So going to Pitt game in 2018? If this is what I get out of a close friend, I am not exposing myself to this kind of mularky at their rental stadium where things will be much worse. Who needs it? Why pay for it?

  1. Just eight spots after fellow Pitt defensive back Jordan Whitehead was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Avonte Maddox joined the NFL ranks when the Philadelphia Eagles snagged him in the fourth round with the 125th overall pick.
As a Panther, Maddox was a consistent presence in the defensive backfield during his four-year career which spanned from 2014 to 2017.

Maddox was an impact player for the Panthers beginning with his true freshman year, whenhe nabbed a starting cornerback job with five games left in the 2014 season and never looked back.

Maddox was certainly a consistent presence, but he was also consistently victimized. He seems like a solid citizen, but I was shocked that he made it into an NFL training camp.

Seems like his meteoric rise happened after his Pitt career was over, and he was away from Narduzzi. Perhaps that is not a coincidence.

Hodges was a late transfer to Pitt last season from Texas. Though short, his time at Pitt was marked by starting plays on the offensive line. Of the eight games he played, he started three at right guard. Like Officer, Hodges was also selected to play in the 2018 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.

Just an FYI - South Point Casino has released early lines for the 2018 season. PSU is a 14 point favorite at Pitt. I'm on record as saying PSU would open as a 6 or 7 point favorite. I didn't expect it to be anywhere near this high. For those who don't follow things like this, 14 points on the road is a s**t ton.

I'm not a gambler but I expected about a 10 point line. Even with the front line talent we lost, and it's considerable, our depth and talent advantage compared to Pitt is still quite large. While we might be missing the high end star power, we will be deeper and more athletic than we were last year. Given Pitt's lackluster recruiting, there is no way they can say the same.

Might be too low in my view.

Pitt will have problems without Whitehead.

Tampa Bay selects Jordan Whitehead with the 117th overall pick in the NFL Draft

Pitt football had its second player taken off the board— after offensive lineman Brian O’Neill— when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected safety Jordan Whitehead in the fourth round with the 117th overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Despite dealing with two shortened seasons after an impressive first year, Whitehead still showed he’s an NFL-worthy talent during his three-year career at Pitt.

As the number one ranked high school player in Pennsylvania according to Rivals.com,Whitehead made an impact from the start of his first season as a Panther in 2015. The versatile defensive back led Pitt with 109 tackles while also intercepting one pass and taking a fumble for a touchdown. The coaching staff also experimented with Whitehead’s athleticism on offense as well, where he racked up 122 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries. His accomplishments earned him Freshman All-American status and the ACC’s Rookie of the Year award.

If everyone at MSU knew, that means Narduzzi knew. Did he even think at all before he spoke?

Pitt's recruiting strategery....

I'm not worried about Pitts recruiting in the slightest. There are still so many summer camps that will be taking place over the next several months and Duzz and his staff are going to practically pick anyone they want at that time because all of the uncommitted gems will not have offers from anyone else and that is when Duzz will swoop in and get them. It's all about relationships and find me a more likable, honest, charismatic coach than HCPN (you cant). Pitt is recruiting at a top 25 level, the commits will come, fans will just have to wait a couple months that's all. Come next February I will not be surprised in the slightest if Pitt has a top 25 class.

Even RutgersAl is laughing at this level of “optimism”.

Talk about having no sense of reality!

This is the part that is totally divorced from reality. That coach jumps around and acts like a rabid baboon, humiliating himself on national television. He runs his mouth and lies on the recruiting trail.

You want to blow smoke about recruits? Fine. But to say that this clown is likable, honest, and charismatic is straight delusional.

It's not just because he's from pitt; he's a total asshole. It's not subjective. It's a fact.

It took nearly two rounds, but the Pitt football team finally saw some recognition in the NFL Draft Friday night when the Minnesota Vikings selected offensive lineman Brian O’Neill with the 62nd overall pick.

This is the culmination of a successful three-year career with the Panthers for O’Neill, where he established himself as one of the most productive Pitt linemen in recent years.

O’Neill began his time at Pitt in 2014 redshirted as a true freshman. He played tight end his freshman year before switching to right tackle his sophomore year, and later from right tackle to left tackle this past season. O’Neill received several notable awards during his career at Pitt, including second team All-ACC honors in the coaches vote and third team All-ACC honors in the media vote — both during the ‘16-’17 season.

I would have liked the post but Hunter Helmsley is so deranged that I have to have sympathy for him. Delusional people need help not ridicule. If I liked it, it would be piling on a poor soul. As my ‘bama friends say “God bless him”

Pitt’s annual Blue and Gold Spring Game may be the first chance of the year for Pitt students, alumni and fans to tailgate and bring their favorite jerseys out of retirement, but it is also an opportunity to get a small taste of what the upcoming season will bring on the field.

This year was no different, as new faces and proven names demonstrated their defensive abilities — and some offensive weaknesses — this past Saturday at Heinz Field.

The Panthers’ defense shone all afternoon. The Blue and Gold squads combined for 13 sacks, with redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Patrick Jones II getting 2.5 alone. Pitt’s true defensive star of the afternoon was redshirt junior cornerback Dane Jackson, who sealed the game for the Blue team with a 60-yard pick-six of sophomore quarterback Kenny Pickett late in the fourth quarter.

The secondary play on both sides was also impressive, as many of the sacks were a result of tight coverage down the field. Assistant head coach Charlie Partridge noted how well the secondary as a whole played on the afternoon.

“They’re playing with some awareness, some savvy,” Partridge said. “They’re communicating extremely well.”

Offense did not come as easy for the Panthers. Both teams combined for only 194 yards of total offense with just eight yards rushing between them. Sophomore AJ Davis was the only running back able to find any consistency, finishing with 39 yards on 13 carries.

Each squad’s quarterback found passing the ball equally as difficult. Pickett finished 13 for 23 for 140 yards and one interception, while recent transfer and presumed backup Ricky Town went a rough 1 of 9 for just 46 yards.
