Podcast recommendation

Ben Askren interviews Kyle Snyder for 45 minutes on his Rudis podcast. I think the episode was posted today. Snyder talks quite a bit about his college recruitment. There is a bunch of PSU content (and, as a special treat for the haters out there, one very dismissive exchange about Iowa).
Well worth listening too. Snyder did not come to PSU because Cael wanted him to wrestle 285.

And Snyder says no to HWT and he'll wrestle off at 197 and they tell him they don't HAVE THE MONEY FOR ANOTHER 97. NO WAY. They must have paid him to say that.

Doesnt add up, he was 197 for ONE YEAR for TanTrom, then at 285 for three years. This is either a blantant lie, or he changed his mind after one year.

Strike 2, Capn’

He couldn’t make 197 - thought he could. He was losing to Burak and getting handled my Mac.

If I wanted to troll Jammen-Style, I’d say he was avoiding Burak

That and he kind of caught lightning in a bottle and won the world championship at 211 pounds. At that point he focused on freestyle and the NCAA's was gravy. To focus on freestyle meant being a fulltime 211 poundsr which could not be done wrestling 197,

A few of the other things I found interesting:

He considered Penn State, Va Tech, Okie State, Maryland, and Ohio State, but never gave any thought to Iowa.

He was ready to commit to Va Tech but his dad made him hold off until after he visited tOSU.

He doesn’t think he would enjoy being a college coach because he wouldn’t like recruiting.

Also got caught by lightning in a Gadson bottle.

Great listen thanks for the heads up. Looking forward to part 2.

Ben's definitely not the most polished interviewer but he gets good nuggets out of big time guests in part because he's one of them skill-wise.

Loved that Kyle opened up a bit and shared insights into his life and recruiting.
