Potential Chambers replacements

Cancel basketball if that is the best they can come up with
Agreed.
Amaker did nothing before he went to Harvard.
He has certainly done better there than his predecessors, but that same more about them than him.
If a kid meets their hurdles ( and the Ivy quantitative matrix), how hard is it to get that kid.
The rest of the list is ridiculous.
I don’t know why Philly kids went to PSU over temple, lasalle, and st. Joseph’s, but it will take sometime to rebuild the school’s position here, imo.

Not going to happen. He is going to be leaving under a lot of allegations of wrongdoing. He won't land anywhere for a few years. We still don't know exactly why Chambers got fired, but it was something, and that makes it even more likely that PSU would not go there.
I can't understand why some of you guys can't realize that this guy is a flaming troll.

PSU track record of hiring a MBB HC is spotty at best....if we can actually get a Rick Pitino how can you say no? Plenty of safe guards can be written into the contract to assure compliance. We missed out on Jimmy V..... don't repeat that blunder! Everyone deserves a second chance.

Call should be made to John Beilein to gauge if he would have any interest in the Penn State job. He is a good coach who could elevate the program for a five/six year run.
After the way things ended for Beilein in Cleveland and the way things ended for Chambers here, I don't think he's a realistic candidate for the job at this point.

The strength of the B1G conference will probably deter us getting a big name coach more than the money and PSU reputation will. We need to find the best African American coach from a mid-major or a big time program with a good bit of experience in that program.

Becker and Rhoades should be the top two mid major coaches on our list. If we can get a guy like Belein or Matta then you have to do it.

Earl Grant from the College Of Charleston fits the Bill.

That particular article list alone paints the pathetic picture of psu bb. While most of the B10 bb programs are paying top bucks and doing whatever they can to be successful psu leaders continue to not give a damn. It’s hard for me but why should I care either?

It's universally considered to be the worst job in power conference basketball - what do you expect? It'd be like Duke football fans wondering why better candidates aren't lined up to replace Cutcliffe.

Martelli stopped recruiting at St Joe and was fired as a result. He would not be a good candidate to replace Chambers.
Ugh, if we seriously considered Joe Crispin, that is horrible. He does not have a Big Ten coaching resume. Not impressed with this list

It is in the bottom 3 for sure. Washington State is down there with us.

Chambers actually had us recruiting like we were not completely horrible, but then somehow couldn't do a single thing with those recruits. Which made me wonder quite a lot about him as a coach. Contrast that with Dunn and DeChellis who seemed to take whoever they could get, but occasionally figured out how to turn them into good teams.

So the intriguing thing to me is that Thad Matta has no job and he is not very old. If Sandy could connect with enough donors between now and March maybe we could make a really serious hire.

Matta is going to be all about his back issues being solved, but he would be one of my first calls even i would call him today ask if he has any interests

He's a heck of a coach, but no chance that we pony up that kind of money. I read an article yesterday about an assistant from UVA that could potentially be a very good fit for us.

Brad Soderberg? He was on the staff at Wisconsin so he does know the confererence.

How about coaxing Bo Ryan out of retirement? He would give the team an identity, maximize potential, and set stage for future hire.
Bo Ryan is even older than Belein, but would have been a good get for us a long time ago.

I doubt if PSU is willing to pay for most of the coaches on this list, particularly ones who have established a coaching resume in a big time program such as Michigan or even the NBA. Look for them to hire a young black assistant coach from a small or mid sized program.

The scary part is that the returning team is really not that bad. If Chambers was as bad of an in-game coach as he appeared to be, Ferry might pull a Jerry Dunn and have a nice season as the interim. I really hope PSU sees the bigger picture if that happens. Ferry does not seem like the long-term answer to say the least.

I dint know what she would think. I never asked her. I simply threw out a wild card name
Hard pass...so much of this job is recruiting and connections...I want someone with ties and n out natural recruiting area (Big Ten, Philly, NYC, or DMV).

We are going to blow it. There are plenty of assistants at top programs who have these connections, but an AD at a big school screens them all out instantly, making prior HC experience the #1 criteria for arbitrary reasons. Then are left with the HC from some tomato can, or a has-been. And in 8 or 9 years we are right back here again.
