PSU / Georgetown men's BB thread

Would be interesting to see Wheeler as a slot receiver. Surprised to see he had a hudl account from his sophomore year.

Seeing Ewing on sidelines reminds me of high school. We played against him in 1981 Massachusetts D1 State final. Had game tied at the half then early in third quarter our student section started pointing at him chanting "you can't read, you can't read". He then went on to completely destroyed us and win by 15. He must have weighted about 165 pounds back then.

I saw him play as a H.S. player in the Roundball Classic. PA all stars vs the USA all stars.. Ewing was throwing elbows but fortunately no one got hurt. I have had zero respect for him since.......

Jones is lighting it up. Have to get Stevens involved. They’ve jumped out to early leads before and didn’t maintain it.

Sweet jeebus. All you do is complain. We're up double digits and all you do is second guess the game plan. You'll never be happy. Chambers gets paid a lot more than you to coach. Guess that means you shouldn't criticize the basketball team.

8 years of mediocrity will do that.

Georgetown is not a great team, but this PSU team has the potential to be a very good team. Still a lot of sloppiness on offense at times that kills too many possessions, but they for the most part have a flow on offense that they have lacked in past years. Need Watkins to be more of a factor offensively though. Also played very well and active on defense, just need to limit the amount of breakdowns in the middle.

Tough games coming up vs Bucknell, Ole Miss, OkState/Syracuse and Alabama to name a few, but its good for this team to play a tough OOC schedule leading into conference play. Definitely a chance to build a good tournament resume early in the season.

There you go again..dictating the standards of what can and can't be said.
You aren't satisfied with the BB team's performance, but no one is allowed to be less than satisfied with the FB team's performance against similarly talented teams ever. Do I have that right?

Nice win. Showed some real, much needed depth. Showed they can play with a lead. Led by 8 at the half, won by 15. Played excellent defense. Worked for, got, and made open outside shots. Should be a fun team to watch.

There’s quite a bit of a difference, but you know that. If Chambers had made the tournament for the past five years in a row, I would be as supportive of Chambers as I am of Franklin. I judge coaches on overall results and Chambers hasn’t made the tournament in 8 years...if he made it once or twice I would be far more positive about him. I don’t have unreasonable expectations of any PSU sport (like you and others do about PSU football), but how do you support a basketball coach who has had worse results than the last two coaches that were run out of town?

Whole lot of entitlement here for supposed fans of a basketball program that hasn’t been particularly good for any of our lifetimes.

This is a double-digit win on the road, in a game we controlled throughout, against a blue blood in our recruiting territory that will go down as a quality out of conference win. This is Penn State. We haven’t exactly had too many of these.

Pretty impressive win tonight. Tough to judge this early in the season but maybe 4th or 5th in the B1G ands the NCAA tournament this year ?

Huge win in a game where we led the ENTIRE game, and ending up winning by double digits, as an underdog, and on the road against a team that had top 25 votes!!! This win will look great come tournament time!!!

Jump out to a big lead early: "yeah but they'll blow it, I've seen this movie before." Hold off Georgetown's run and win by 15: "yeah but Georgetown stinks."

This was a game on the road, against a program with tradition that is among the "others receiving votes" in the polls, putting them ~38th in the country, we never trail for 1 second, Georgetown is never closer than 5 after we go up 5-0, we win by double digits, and the thread is loaded with bitching. Thread is pathetic.

You ask, how do we support Chambers? It's easy. You see slow but steady progress every year. You see teams that play hard every night. Even when the cupboard was empty and there wasn't much talent, those teams played super hard. You see the quality of the recruiting improve. You see the quality of the teams depth improve. To me, that's a big one. You see a coach that seems to be doing it the right way and pours his heart and soul into the program. He's very easy to support. Hopefully PSU has an injury free season and makes the tournament. No matter what I will support them.

You see all that yet the results are worse....sorry, I’m a big picture guy and if the so called improvements don’t yield results, then they’re not really improvements. Don’t confuse effort with results.

It kind of sounds like ......you are bitching?

Chambers isn't trying to build a program that makes the tournament once every five or ten years. He's trying to build something that will be competitive every year. I think that's a slow and difficult task and I think he's on the right track.

I’d rather make it once every five or ten years than never make it.

Alabama just lost at home to Penn in the last week. That is a game that should be a win, especially at home.

Yeah, you're the Indiana football fan losing his shit this year because they aren't good enough to make the playoff. Enjoy that.

Hardly...and that’s really f’n stupid. My expectations for PSU basketball are really low...at least match DeChellis’s results....is that too high of expectations for PSU basketball? Is that Indiana football not making the playoffs? Problem is Chambers isn’t even meeting those low ass expectations.

FWIW, I was a big supporter of Pat before the last two years, where I felt he severely underachieved.

But this win against Georgetown was a really good win. Penn State controlled that game, on the road, the entire game. That hasn’t happened for Penn State very often in the past 50 years or so. I’m pretty stoked to see that.

I am choosing to support Pat and this team. They may prove that my faith in them was misplaced, but it is a risk I’m willing to take. If I’m wrong, there is plenty of time after the season to call for changes to be made.

You bitched incessantly while the team took an 18 point lead, but you’re lecturing me on what's stupid?

And because the team hasn't met your expectations the past 8 years, you're going to act like a petulant child in every hoops thread, whether we're still undefeated and up 18 or not? Brilliant.

The team played well on the road, showed a lot of energy on defense, made some nice plays and was active on offense. They didn’t play perfectly but they beat a Big East Georgetown team in the road by 15 points. That’s a pretty good result. In addition I liked the way Chambers managed the game, used frequent substitutions, and varied his defensive schemes. We had better outside shooting and lots of activity on offense - something we haven’t often enough seen from his teams. This was a nice road win and bodes well for the rest of the season. Our improved level of talent was obvious to anyone who has watched this teams develop.
