PSU-only Recruiting News

I lean that you are correct but kids a lot of times don't post their OVs to PSU since a fancy photoshoot isn't a part of Cael's MO. I know Cael tries to gage the interest of all top PA kids but you're right it might probably wasn't the "full court press"
True enough that Cael doesn't have them do mug shots in a PSU singlet.

OTOH, nearly all of them post pics at Beaver Stadium, at The Lion, in Rec Hall, etc.

BTW, the other 5 schools were Nebraska, Penn, Princeton, Stanford, Virginia.

While this may be the 3rd or 4th time I've seen "Blaze is close and we're leading", it's definitely the 1st time I've seen "Cael is in the hot seat." Why is Cael in the hot seat?
If he doesn’t land MB, I believe Cael’s time in Happy Valley will be over. A guy only gets so many chances.

Gable winning all the time = great for the sport
Cael doing the same = killing the sport
National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater (visited today) has an exhibit that touts Gable dynasty, and asks whether Cael's (post first four-peat) will be the next.

Yeah, it hasn't been updated for a while.

Also walked into Gallagher-Iba Arena. Found Wrestling offices on 4th floor (next to the women's basketball). Only Bryan Pearsall and the office Admin were in.

IDK if we're back in play for him, but putting this here because Correa did take an official to PSU before committing to Meatchicken.

If he flips to OKST -- and that seems possible as they'll need a HWT after 2026 -- then that's just one more reason to hate Michigan (for recruiting over him with Sahakian, who was committed to Arizona State when scUM came calling).

So Michigan watched Correa beat Sahakian at WNO and thought, “FULL COURT PRESS” on Sahakian? 🧐

They poached Sahakian back in May.

But yeah, was weird at the time and seems like an unforced error now.

Best guess is: maybe when they got Sahakian, they told Correa to go 197. But Correa has made no secret of his desire to go HWT, and that he thinks he'll be at 250 in a year. So not the greatest plan if that's what happened.

Does PSU want him to play football as well?
Don't think he's a top priority target for us but he absolutely is a D1 football prospect off his athleticism.

Obviously this was talked about with Franklin since Ross would count against his 105.

Damn good wrestler. Never seen him play football. If he chooses PSU then I guess he is the guy after Mirasola?

He’s a 4 star ranked 188 in the country. He absolutely deserves a football offer - even if he never plays FB. 105 schollies leaves room for a few of these situations

I really really like this kid. A bit like Kueter in that he’s never just focused on wrestling. Doesn’t look like he will in college either but he is an absolutely incredible athlete. In the PSU room he looks a NC

Why does a football scholy have to mean anything? If he's good enough to play he will get one, but a wrestling scholy should suffice. 188, I assume he is a WR or DB candidate at the D1 level?

If he can run a 4.5 or less I might be a believer, but the chances of any athelete being a legit 2 sport guy are next to nothing, Ben Keuter included.

I'll believe it when I see it with Ben. Next year if the proof, of he starts on football he won't likely come back to the mat, if he doesn't he will probably go wrestling 100%. Once again IMO.

He doesn't have an offer from Penn State to play football. Will Franklin offer?
Could be a walk on situation, if he’s stuck on doing both, maybe the wrestling team picks up the scholarship while he’s deciding between sports.

Don’t think he’s either at the d1 level, he’s a lb right now, and if he’s wrestling heavyweight as well he’ll sit around 240-50. Maybe TE, but I think more likely he’ll be a college LB.

If he's on the football team and gets one penny from Cael, it counts as a full ride against football.

That rule exists because the number of 250-lb SEC tennis players and golfers running a 4.4 40.

There’s no way Dreshaun is going to any school paying a dime with how good and in demand he is. I guess he could “walk on” and a booster writes the check for NIL. But the schools that’ll have him for football will count him towards the 105 and I think that’s all of his final 4, including Penn State.

Made Dreshaun Ross' Top 4.

Beaver Stadium in the background so looks like he has green light to play football as well.
So the top 3 wrestling programs in the country and a home state powerhouse school? Sounds like wrestling will be a priority even if he is playing football, too, if those are his top 4. My guess is Iowa for him, but we'll see, I guess. The other schools all have a bigger need for HWTs, though, since Kueter RS'd last year and quit football this year.

Kueter said in his media day he’s planning on going back to football during the summer

70kg - PJ Duke
QF: PJ Duke TECH Miquel Auccapina (PER) 11-0 (1:35)
SF: PJ Duke FALL Bryce Andonian (2:24) The score was 10-2 PJ at the time of the fall.
FINAL: PJ Duke DEC Will Lewan 10-4
PJ Duke takes 1st Place!

57kg - Nate Desmond

QF: Bye
SF: Nate Desmond TECH Liam Cronin 10-0 (4:01)
FINAL: Daniel Deshazer TECH Nate Desmond 10-0 (56-sec)
Nate Desmond takes 2nd Place!

To me, the most surprising thing about PJ was how easily he handled Andonian & Lewan. Those are two fully grown men, but PJ didn't appear to have any physical disadvantage. Desmond looked great against Cronin, but displayed a noticeable strength disadvantage against Deshazer, as he got horsed around for a quick tech in the finals. That's what I expected from a high schooler going against a full grown man. But, PJ looked just as strong as all of his opponents, which was quite impressive for a high school kid. He has the pedigree & potential to be another PSU 4X champ. He's going to be a force in college. It'll be fun watching Nate & PJ develop in the PSU system.
