PSU vs Rutgers Predictions

And is he gone? Goodale says 50/50....
Re. Suriano, he shows up in the Rutgers directory, but I can't tell if it's old info or not.

Regardless, I saw several places where IF he does return, it won't be for several weeks. Appears possible he's taking on-line classes to keep his options open.

He's been enrolled at Rutgers all along. He wouldn't return until end Jan or early Feb.He will be overseas in bracket with Gilman and Vito next week

Nick is in France right now at a Tournament. I doubt he makes it back for the Penn State Match next week!!! He has more important things to focus on now!

He wrestles next weekend in France.Wouldnt be back in Rutgers lineup until end of January if he is at all

after watching Michigan kick Rutgers ass, without Micic and Amine(184), I have great confidence that we will also molly wamp Rutgers! I really hope we have a different set of announcers!

I said this over on The Mat, but there's a good chance that Penn State blanks them.

Assuming Howard is going at 125, I'd say that 125 and 141 are the best chances for Rutgers to put points on the board.

After that, it could get really, really ugly. Particularly if they've pulled the ol' switcheroo with BB and Nick Lee.

I am excited to see Carter Starocci breaking some people in half. And the long awaited return of AB. And Brady Berge at full-ish feed.

Gonna be a long week, man.

Could be a potential shut out. Unfortunate for them their best wrestler hits N Lee. If Howard wrestles I think it’s a shutout.

I can’t find the Rutgers wrestling board anymore. What’s their take? Usually they have a prediction thread

Nothing there as of right now. A search on "PSU" and "Penn State" using their query tool only brings up Men's Basketball & Football stuff.

There is an interesting discussion in the forum about the lack of development of wrestlers in the Rutgers program. If I could post, I could tell them to compare two 125 pounders from the same entering class. One was a three-time finalist and two time champ from Cali and a top recruit. The other was a one time placer in PA (4th) and not a top recruit. By the time they wrestled in the B1G tournament in 2020 as redshirt freshmen, the two were basically even when they wrestled (and scored the same number of points in the tournament). That might be instructive.

From the KnightReport thread titled Staff and recruiting question

I know next to nothing about wrestling, but wanted to ask a serious question hoping to receive an unbiased answer.

there’s no argument that Goodale has done a helluva job building this program to one that we can all be proud of, but my question is whether at this point if we:

1. Have a B1G caliber staff in place to continue a climb up the B1G rankings

2. Are recruiting at a level to sustain growth or even stay even with where we’ve gotten

I’m afraid that outside of Ashnault and getting some transfers in, we’re not recruiting at a high enough level and we’re not able to develop the talent we have. Again, I have no idea and am asking this not as a troll but simply because I’m curious as to what people in the know would say regardless of whether they live Goodie. @Lex Knapp? Anyone? Thanks!

Recruiting needs to pickup because we're just not landing the really elite recruits like SVN and those are the recruits you need most, and we need multiples of them, if we want to take the next step. I wish I had an answer to how but I don't. We're in the toughest conference, have one of the top practice facilities and match arenas and attendance, just had 2 national champs, yet we mostly can't land those elite recruits. Look at what other schools really wanted the recruits as a good measure. We have to take risks on some highly ranked kids that other schools don't push for and they aren't working out. I'm not blaming the coaches because they're doing everything possible, but it's more than an uphill battle when you don't have the brand and you still have club and HS coaches pushing their kids elsewhere, not to mention the parents. Go hang out at an elite club or a club tourney and see what response you get when talking Rutgers, and look to see how many are wearing Rutgers gear or have Rutgers magnets on their cars vs say PSU...

Soldano is an elite recruit.

Whoops! This didn't age well...

Give ouch my knee credit. He may be understanding to some degree that finishing 12th in the 2020 B1Gs while hosting them is not very good.

I think Soldano might be a good recruit. The loss to Facundo was very close and Facundo was bumping up only one weight class. Whether he develops at Rutgers is another question.

Thanks for the link. I guess they changed their site up. My old link just showed the stuff like Roar said.

Lol. I won’t be delving into the 125lb comparison.

Surprised they don’t have a thread up. I see they had one for Michigan

There wasn't really a predictions thread for Michigan. There was a stand-alone link to an Asbury Park press article with previews/predictions. No one from the forum even commented.

Do you think we could set up a tri-meet with Rutgers? Our first team, second team, and Rutgers. If Beau is second team 141, maybe we can shut them out twice.

Tomorrow (or Thursday maybe since it's a Saturday match) the CDT will carry the probable starters. There should be several weights with multiple guys listed for PSU. Regardless of who's listed, the likely reason there's no predictions on the Rutgers board will be in black & white.

Do you suppose there's going to be a Match Notes?

You’re always cherry picking stats that fits your narrative. I find it quite entertaining ;D lol

That's called informed discussion using reasonable comps. Another comp could be Zain/AA. Both top 10 recruits out of high school in the same class. That one isn't very favorable to Rutgers, either.
Stop cherry-picking! You just picked another wrestler from the great Penn State team, and compared him to another wrestler from the not-so-good Rutgers team. Not fair! :)
