I heard part of the story right after this game in the mid 1990s. I was in my seats in EG with brother-in-law, nephew and younger son. My older son, Casey, was with some friends in the lower north end zone. They were about 13 years old at the time. After the game he said he missed the second half because friend Troy was caught throwing a snowball at the Michigan team when they came out of the locker room for the second half. He said that he and Greg left with Troy.
Flash forward to the family vacation last month and that game experience comes up in the conversation. Casey says that the ushers blamed Troy but he was the one who threw the snowball. And it hit a Michigan player in the back.
Casey is in his mid 30s so there's no possibility of punishment. And he told the truth that his friend was the one blamed. All I could do was say, "nice shot".

I was in the student section that day. There were 13,478 students throwing snowballs and they throw out some poor little 13 year old kid......who was on the BoT back then?

I was in the student section too--had friends up from D.C. visiting..I felt this grab on my collar and got dragged out....I snuck back in though ;) ...what a week--snowball fights off the pavilion at Penn Towers....it was a little cold too...

You should never ever throw things at players. No excuse, wasn't a very classy moment for Penn State.

That said, I still remember a Michigan player scoring a touchdown and gesturing to the crowd, and then immediately getting blasted in the face (inside his facemask) with a snowball. Was perfect karmic justice.

I will say, however, as one who was there, that *most* of the snowballs stayed in the stands: student vs student.

Worst thing I saw that day was the punishment the poor blue band took trying to get to their seats...the big drum was too enticing of a target for someone to ignore. I had to leave early because we were sitting low in the student section, so all of the snowballs were coming down hill....not fun (but a great ending to the game that I had to watch from my dorm!).

My seats at that time were lower EJ near the visiting fans. They weren't great. You're sad when the visiting fans are happy and vice versa.

Before the Michigan snow game, a visiting fan in a fur coat stood up facing away from the field, opened his coat to reveal his bare chest with a block "M". He was immediately pelted by snowballs. The "snowflake" called the ushers who turned to the crowd said to stop and gave a big wink.

We were in section ND, even # section. During the second half, some kid across the aisle in the odd # section very quickly got up and heaved a fastball toward the field. He did it so fast, I only saw it peripherally, I didn't have time to turn my head. Within a minute and a half, there were three security people there to escort him out.

I remember Joe arguing with a ref on the sideline and a snowball flew from the stands and hit the ref on the side of his face.

Obviously, you've taught your son well. In which prison is he incarcerated or at least should be?

Are you serious? I'd hate to see the kids living next to you. Do you put front page ads in the newspaper to remind kids to stay off your lawn? What a dick.....

No doubt, and Coach Paterno immediately ran down the field, took control of the situation and lectured the students just as you say they should have been lectured (that's the kind of integrity Coach Paterno had.....he didn't care if it was his own fans, PSU students no less, doing the wrong action - he told it like it was and didn't sugar coat it! This is ultimately why the students and alumni loved Joe so much - he had substance and integrity......and you always knew he stood on the side of "right" and doing things "the right way".). I was at the game and JVP immediately got a microphone attached to the stadium speakers (probably the one used for the band), told the fans to cease & decist immediately and LECTURED them at how ashamed he was of their behavior!

Just as JVP lectured the cheating B1G and its CORRUPT Officials. Too bad JVP wasn't around to tell this bush-league conference and its officials what pieces of worthless crap, cheating garbage they are after the 2014 duhO$U disgraceful b1g cheat-fest or after Delany's completely unprofessional, violation of his employment "code of conduct" shilling for b1g "also ran" duhO$U at the direct expense of the B1G Conference & East Division Champion both determined on the field of play by the Champion Team who also established absolute best record, including the most wins, in B1G Conference play???? Go figure.
