Recruiting end with a whimper

folks, ease up a bit.

the OP expressed an opinion. I think it's far more pessimistic than what will actually take place, but it's his guess/opinion.

lots of people over react to things, or turn negative at almost anything that isn't total domination by PSU. I have to deal with it pretty much every Saturday during a football game (win or lose), and every time PSU loses out on a recruit, has a coaching change, etc. so, so, so much of what is expressed at those times is based on emotion, and not on logic. we've seen no shortage of such posts in the past month, between the coaches that were hired, the coaches that left, the players that elected to depart for the NFL or to transfer to other schools, and for recruits that have shown any indication of switching from PSU/changing their visit schedules/etc.

fwiw, fkkjm is a PSU fan, and has previously been a Premium Ticket subscriber. you may disagree with his guesses/opinions, or with how he presented his info, or be suspicious of his number of posts, but he's what he claimed he is.
No offense Tom, but the trolls have been running wild on this site lately. Any relatively new poster is going to be looked at with suspicion especially with a post like this one.

Who is this McAndrew Guy supporting fkkjm.....is he a troll?? They can be very clever.

And this is what happens with little or no mod oversight. FYI, not a whole bunch of 'happiness pursuit' here anymore, Tom.

Blah, blah, blah. You've said as much a few times over the past week. At first I just laughed at it, as you have no clue how much or how little monitoring takes place. Since you insist on repeating your statement, and I know for a fact that you are incorrect, I'm getting more than a little tired of it.

I find you tiresome as well.

Guys, my intent was not to start a war and if you ask my wife, I am often a glass half empty type. sorry if I looked like a troll in disguise. I have loved PSU since I was 3 years old watching games with my dad growing up in Erie.

I just feel like we lost a little steam with the coaching changes and the Big Ten East is turning into an arms war with Harbaughs antics. The past few weeks has mostly been negative news and I guess I let it get to me more than normal as I don't too post much. Just picture Eeyore in a Penn State jersey typing!

Again, sorry.

I fear we are all going to be disappointed come signing day. Let's look at who's in the running and my best guess at what % chance PSU has:

Ferns - 70%
Hamlin - 25%
Nixon - 25%
Fuller - 5-10%
Hudson - 30-40%
Snelson - not sure 50% he flips?
Chavis - 1%
Hill - 25%
Dioubate - 10%

Current commits:

Pryts - 80-90%
Nordin - 50%
Dwumfour - 50%

I see us getting 2 possibly 3 more
commits and possibly losing 2 more....Talk me off the ledge here guys......I'm not seeing much to be excited about. Hairball is beating our ass.
If you posted this on Pantherlair they would be thrilled and excited to have any possibility of getting any of the recruits you listed.

Personally, I love the coaching changes and am extremely excited about the future. Not sure about negative news. Sanders is in the fold, so is Menet. Hill had a good visit. Several new recruits looking at PSU. Even Pryst is cancelling visits to other schools. Only Nordin is looking elsewhere and PSU just offered another kicker.

one thing i have learned on this board in a short period of time if you dare say something bad about staff, recruiting, or players you are labeled a "troll." I have never seen the word troll used so frequently anywhere in life and for that matter been so misused. i think you are being a little pessimistic about the % on those recruits but certainly not a troll, just your opinion.

You should realize, especially offensively the coaching changes are going to help this team in the future and possibly as soon as next year. Those were a year overdue.

Franklin has a big two years ahead of him, I will fully support and want him to succeed, i have serious doubts that it will happen, but at this time i have more optimism that he will get this ship on track. However, he deserves at least 2 more years considering the circumstances he came in under. More likely 4.

CJF is getting done on and off the field and he's not gonna burn out because he has a good work/life balance.

The only negative to me is the loss of Reeder. The coaching changes and other transfers i see as positives.

An elite 11 QB, probably the best RB and OL in the country, 4 stars at D end, and D backfield, a solid TE and a lot of depth. It's not who we don't get --- it's who we are getting that counts. And we are getting a 3d straight top 15 class. By next year we will start to be in the BIG championship talk.

This is a great recruiting class, even if we don't get anyone else! JF is the best recruiter we have had since Joe was in his 50s. He is certainly better than BOB and is better than Joe was over his last 15 years or so. Let's celebrate JF's success instead of whining that he didn't get more.

Hey, guys, look at that. A relatively new poster that eloquently gave a very positive and accurate summary of the current recruiting class!!!!

Nicely spoken!

I like franklin better than BOB for many reasons, however you cannot compare him recruiting to Franklin classes as BOB had basically both hands tied behind his back trying to recruit with way reduced scholarships and the brunt of sanctions hitting.

I do think Franklin is a better recruiter though overall. And I do think O'Brien specifically recrutired skill players over lineman to help his look for the NFL, nevertheless his hands were so tied its impossible to blame him for much in regards to recruits he did or did not get at the time.

The true question becomes how good of a recruiter is Franklin over another up and coming coach? I had this discussion during bowl week with other PSU fans in Jax. How much of PSU sells itself and its brand. How many of these kids is PSU getting anyway based on their brand, location, being the top University really in the whole eastern region etc...and why maybe arent they getting more still? Time will tell.

In two years I think a fair question will be is Franklin's recruiting enough to offset his struggles as in game coach? Or is a guy like Matt Ruhle for example able to do much of the same in recruiting but better on game day and in the development of players?

No matter how good a recruiter you are, at some point you have to win and beat good teams.

Cant we make a PSU questionnaire for vetting before we just slap the troll tag on? It's comical. It's like the French Revolution. Anyone who doesn't swallow the party line must be a dissident worthy of execution.

Would a troll know Joel holler ate his way into joes permanent doghouse?

Found another troll! LOL. ;)

On this board any unpopular opinion = troll. Maybe we should have some sort of test as you suggest. I suggest we start here, just replace "witch" with "troll" and this should suffice.

Man, this board is tough! I recently discovered it, and love all the info that's posted, but I may stick to the safer(and friendlier) confines of the wrestling room!

It used to be better. It really has turned into more of a cesspool since Rivals changed the board format. I think the elimination of thread view keeps these threads around longer now, and they turn into more of a pissing match with lots of insults being slung back and forth than we saw previously.

Franklin looks like a pretty good recruiter to me, and it will only get better as they win more.

His struggles as in in game coach or overblown. He's fine. Everyone makes a few errors. Who really is a genius? Good players make you look good. You go to any town after a loss, Pro or College, and everyone is complaining about coaching moves.

He needs talent to disguise it, but he has not been a good in game decision maker. I wish I could say he was, but some of it has been laughable. I could name at least 2-3 games the last two years where his choices on fake punts, timeout, clock management etc has been putrid. I doubt I am in the minority except maybe on this board. Not trolling, just want him to be better.

The bowl game everyone in our section laughed about it or yelled about it.

Why don't you give CJF a chance to develop players? He still has a young team. He did contribute to the development of the players he inherited. The DL and WR's, DBs. Watch 3 D linemen go in the draft. Hack had no OL to protect him, what CJF was delt.

Temple had a Senior laden team.

Not really a valid comparison.
