Recruiting Puzzle

I want everyone to know I love everyone on this team. But before someone wants to say how this team is powered by out of staters, let me point out the contributions Ruth and Nico had in our title runs. And yes last year we didn't bring home the title and Brown was our only champ, but perhaps things may have been different if Nico and Zain would have been in the line-up not to mention Nolf. And projecting this year's line-up, I see the first 5-6 weights all PA kids. So spare me the crap already. You guys got a thorn up your ass, just say you're having a bad day and let it be.

Based on this post, I'd say you're the one who just sat on a thorn. Things had been pretty civil up to that point.

Lauren68, not a great way to endear yourself to a message board you just recently became active on

Jammie, any legs to the rumor Stroker may back out of his commitment to Minnesota? That tweet by his dad sure does raise some questions at the very least.

He can't back out of his commitment. He signed a LOI.

He could, however, go to the OTC for a year, not enroll anywhere, and he would be no longer obligated to spend a year at Minnesota.

No idea what the tweet is in reference to, just addressing his options.

I wonder if Minne could release him to make room at the Inn for someone else...a mutual thing. Still probably too late to get it altogether for a different school. He spent a lot of time at OTC this summer so that would be the logical guess. Nothing on their forum yet.

I know nothing, but why does that cryptic tweet have to refer to Minny. It could be about anything. Don't believe everything the Squawkaholics speculate on.

Yea...maybe The Colonel was just referencing a tshirt Fredy had changed his mind on purchasing and wanted to make sure his support was known.

I realize these were more or less rhetorical, but can't help myself ...

1. Karam is considering "4 or 5 schools" in his words. When he originally committed to Bucknell, the other contenders were Lehigh, Rutgers, and Drexel. He hasn't said how his list has changed.

2. Phillippi is known to be considering PSU, Virginia, and NC State -- so far. He also said he'll consider other schools and will take his officials -- see the article Tom linked last week. Also, I don't think he's a college 133. He wrestled 132 at Hershey last year and was noticeably taller/lankier than Korbin Myers. IMO his best plan is to shirt immediately to fill into 141.

3. Red does in fact have a backup plan. He's considering Nebraska and Iowa State (at least).

4. I don't know where to start with the Lee comments ... but here goes anyway. EVERY school in the country has saved money for him. And this sounds a lot like HR, where they have a "Lee to Iowa" thread seemingly every day and twice on Sunday.

Not true...we save the Sunday threads for Mark Hall

Glad All of the murkiness of which recruit is going where got sorted out this week. It's getting A little tough reading the threads on which 11th grader whoops the other. I do know based on the information provided, in a round robin, Jefe thrashes Jammenz, and majors Mikey T. John Doe DQ's for being a no show. The secrecy in wrestling recruiting is fascinating vs football recruiting.
Go State!

I forget who it was that p***ed off John Doe .... but thanks a lot. What is going on would have been leaked by now. Come back JD!
I think it was the classic case of killing the messenger after he broke the Marsteller decommitment. I could be mistaken, but I think people scoffed at his bad news.

Doesn't really matter. Life is too short to be that sensitive, if that's what caused JD to exit stage left. Sooner or later these kids will announce. For the time being I hope every one of these kids is working these programs to get the best deal for themselves while ending up wrestling where they want to. For most of us, our families or ourselves paid for college. What these kids are going through is both a reward and a learning experience in negotiation. I hope they make the most of it. I do admire that, at least on this board, the actual news is in Cold War, politburo lockdown secrecy.

CT...if I remember correctly, it also may have been him having all ten guys from your team in AA status with McCutcheon as a potential champ. A few of you disagreed with him and he got angry about it.

I was thinking the same thing. While his optimism was encouraging if you are a PSU fan it was a bit much. If I remember correctly he had worse case senario was 9 AAs and a few finalists. The McCutcheon prediction of top 4 being worst case possible was the most extreme.

Yeah, I forgot all about that. He must have bathed in blue (and white) kool aid.

Nothing wrong with sunny optimism but you have to be able to the heat when others disagree. He couldn't take anything other than adulation. Having inside info does not necesarily translate to knowledge. Too bad, because this year, there is plenty to be optimistic about for you all.

There are others on here that occasionally know a thing or two, but don't say anything. Can't really, as trust is important.

The great thing about the progression of time is soon enough we will all know what you know(about where kids commit). Until then I hope each one of these kids works the system to their greatest advantage. I trust Cael can make just about anyone tournament tough.

"He couldn't take anything other than adulation." >>> Sounds like the great majority of the HR board.

I always enjoyed John Doe, and do hope that he returns.

My recollection of his leaving was more along the lines of his indicating that a couple of the younger guys felt they could be National Champs, and he basically indicated that if they believed it then he would go along with that as a prediction. That wasn't all that clear in his initial post on the subject, and a number of folks criticized his predictions. He clarified that in a reply or two, but also indicated that he was leaving the board.

Not even close. It wasn't about adulation or "being able to take the heat" (LOL). Rather, it was simply about tolerance level for putting up with crap and a few unnecessary personal attacks (see Tom McAndrew's post just above). Doe just decided that the crap/attacks weren't it and, really, who can blame him? He was under no obligation to provide information to this board.

I don't think this is a fair representation of what happened. Tom outlined it in a very PC manner, but hit the mark. JD posted his predictions, obviously extremely B/W colored, took some criticism for them - although I would not categorize the criticism as excessive nor personal. Decided to leave the board.

Probably for the better for JD. If you are going to post on message boards, you have to be willing to take some level of criticism - it is a place for debate and differing views. The criticism that is being referred to wasn't over the top. If your not happy with opening yourself up to this, then the message boards are probably not the place for you - whether you have inside connections or not.

It was the nature of the criticism. Maybe you didn't consider it over the top, but in my recollection some was unnecessarily harsh and unjustified. You can say it comes with the territory, but I don't blame Doe for saying "screw it".

JDs predictions were definitely colored blue and white. I just smiled when I read them, no need for comment or criticism. Why would anyone who knows the wrestlers be harsh with that post. Nobody can say that he didn't have inside info, he shared accurately more than a couple times. Others on here have info that I appreciate (since I now reside in Alabama). Keep sharing please!

Yep, exactly right.

I simply said if we take care of our home turf we should be OK in this recruiting cycle. We need lightweights. Karam, Phillippi and Lee are from PA. I also consider NJ with Suriano in our backyard. Christ to stimulate a little talk during a dead time and I'm getting a geography lesson on where our wrestlers are from. I follow the team also, sports.
Christ? Jesus!

Connected guy for Oh St who correctly said they were out for Micic and called Pletcher, just recently said 90% chance Suriano to PSU, but Iowa still lurking. Like those odds if indeed true!

I hope he returns, too. There is a difference between an opinion and a fact. Some of John Doe's opinions were too optimistic. But he also supplied us with facts, i.e., Chance Marstellar going to Oklahoma State.

Agree with the rest of the post, but not with the bolded. Again, the concept of the message board is opinion, comment, debate, etc. If you can't handle that, you are probably better off not posting. As much as I enjoyed reading his inside information, I'm not really into the point of view that opposing opinions or criticisms need to be muzzled for certain posters.

I saw that too a few days ago. He does know his stuff and doesn't seem to overreach with his opinions/hunches. Hopefully he's right this time, too.
