Recruiting Puzzle

Agree with the rest of the post, but not with the bolded. Again, the concept of the message board is opinion, comment, debate, etc. If you can't handle that, you are probably better off not posting. As much as I enjoyed reading his inside information, I'm not really into the point of view that opposing opinions or criticisms need to be muzzled for certain posters.
Thanks for your advice to quit posting if I can't handle others comments or criticisms. I'll just keep reading and posting as I see fit, thank you.

Likewise on the advice "no need to comment or criticize" above. Thanks, but I'll keep commenting and criticizing as I see fit.

Not to belabor this but my "no need to comment or criticize" followed a comma where I said I read and I just smiled. It follows that I found no need to comment and I found no need to criticize. Don't take it personal. I really enjoy your posts, keep it up.

Yes, we've had a couple feuds in this one and I'm back to battling with the usual suspects over on the USA forum after a pretty calm summer; time for some news already. Pissing matches can only kill so much time o_O

Suriano update from a credible poster on the ohio state board:

"i asked Dano question: Jared Cortez to Penn St, does this effect Suriano decision? Where ohio st stand now?

Dano say Cortez zero effect. He says Suriano will commit soon to Penn st, be a 2 year 125 and then redshirt a year to move to 133 once Cortez graduates.

Ohio St out of Suriano sweepstakes, happy with Pletcher and hoping for Mark Hall. --- Need either Lee or Fix next year."

Looks like this is straight out of El-Jefe's plan for world domination. ;)

I believe it was on The Mat, a thread about Illinois and then Cortez, somebody mentioned Suriano to PSU. Not sure if the poster was fishing or what but there wasn't anyone questioning what was said.

A coaching friend was with two PSU guys this summer.....one on the team and another who graduated. They both felt recruiting was going great. In Cael we trust.

We should all know soon enough.;)

I am guessing that many times these kids tell more than 1 of the recruiting coaches what they want to hear. Which leads to more than 1 group of "insiders" to feel very good about their chances of landing this recruit

In this case, it's coming from an insider of a school that is no longer in the picture. That makes this information very reliable, imo.

Nothings is as reliable as the public words of the wrestler, and signing on the dotted line. We'll know soon enough.

Too be honest, I don't think Manville ends up at PSU.

Hate to lose out on a top talent, but I'd actually be okay with that. Not really sure where Manville fits in the PSU lineup, and the lightweights are a much bigger priority.

Is this the potential line-up if Suriano and Red fit in, too? And Lee next year?

No. Cael has said Nolf is all but locked in at 157, and Beitz has been greenlighted to compete with Hammond and Shakur for 165.

And there's a pretty good chance Nevills will go heavy in 2020. Seth Nevills, that is. Though obviously it's way early to write that in.

I keep reading this on the boards, and it's a really interesting theory, but it doesn't square with the facts on the ground:
1. Manville has on several occasions reiterated his commitment to Penn State.
2. He has not decommitted from Penn State.
3. There have been zero rumors of him looking at other schools, or of other schools pursuing him.
4. He has moved back to Lorton VA (suburban DC) and plans to train with the NLWC whenever possible.
5. He is very academically focused, and Penn State is a great fit for his professional goals (finance/IT).

I don't know if Manville has received an offer yet. But this much is clear: after 6 weeks into recruiting season, Cael has not told him "no room at the inn."

Anything's possible until he actually signs, but I have yet to see a reason to be concerned.

Do they teach English at Ohio State?

One of the posters admitted he was bored and was just guessing. The other seems like an obvious guess since he claims to know where Suriano, Red and Hall all plan to go.
It was the same guy both times. And he claimed Hall and Red are both heading to Wisky.

Mike Evans was not impressed.

Maybe not, but with Vincenzo and Nolf in that same area, why not put that money into the lower weights to fill 125,133, and 141. Great problem to have if he stays there though.

Is this the same forum that mocked Iowa posters for assuming all the recruits would come to them? Asking for a friend. Are you sure you don't think you can squeeze Mark Hall in the upper weights?

This is nothing more than laying out a potential path forward. One could do something like this with plenty of schools......wait, no, they can't because plenty of schools do not have the openings we have at those particular weights, for highly talented guys, who are geographically very close to the school in question ( ok Red isn't very close ), who want to win team national championships along with individual honors. Of course money is going to matter too.

That, of course, is the dream lineup, but it's not strange to think we get at least a few guys at need weights from a few hours driving distance from State College, n'est ce pas? You guys are already throwing Mejia and that other lightweight recruit (Gomez?) overboard.

Cael has a pretty good track record of landing the elite recruits, don't you think? In fact, it's the main criticism of him as well from some deluded folks - that he isn't a good coach because he needs all elite guys.

I'd love Hall, but I think he's going tOSU or Nebraska myself.

You beat me to the punch. Strange that we think we can land top Pa and Jersey guys at need weights - borders on bizarre.

"That money" is an assumption. We don't know what kind of money he requires to attend PSU.

If Cael low-balled him and it pissed him off, he's doing a CIA-worthy job of hiding it.

Three of the top 8 guys in Flo's p4p rankings. Iowa fans were mocked for hoping and (overly optimistically) for two of those guys in the prospective lineup. That guy added a third for Penn State, and it's peachy.

Listen, fans are going to be super optimistic, and that's great. My point is there were an awful lot of stones coming from this glass house. If Penn State lands all of those kids, great! But maybe we can tone down the "oh those crazy Iowa fans just making assumptions!" Line of thinking? Or maybe Nick Reenan decommits from Northwestern....

Well, Cael did land 4 of the top 12 of 2014, so there's that. You guys have total faith in the Brands' ability to coach lightweights, just as we have confidence in Cael's ability to close in recruiting.

The main issue is some guys on your board think it's still 1986 and Dan Gable is prowling the mats. Ohio state and PSU aren't going anywhere and you better be looking beyond locking down 125-141 in order to get back to the top of the mountain.

Watching Gable prowl the mats at Rec Hall in 1986 was interesting.

PSU fans don't go ape $h!t when someone predicts a recruit of interest is going somewhere other then PSU.

PSU fans also haven't acted like a certain world champ recruit was preordained to be at their school (far from just "hoping") despite living in their back yard.

Cael has a proven track record of bringing in multiple top 10 recruits. Brands averages one every 2 or 3 years.
