For weeks there has been discussion about will PSU finish inside the top 10 or not? It seemed to be about a 50/50 split on the board (+ or - a little), but 1 point I tried to emphasize was exactly what unfolded the last couple days.
Penn State was projected to finish anywhere between 8 and 12 depending on the remaining targets and the old rankings. However, given the most recent updated R250which saw all 7 of Penn State's members slide down in the rankings, that #6 rated class has slumped back to #10. This was the factor that the majority of posters seemed to forget and I was something I tried to warn about in the Karamo Dioubate thread. Of course, it could very well have gone the other way with PSU players being upgraded, but it didn't happen this time.
The good news is that there are still some high ranking players left on our board including 2 who made big jumps in the R250 (Hansford and Nixon). Also, keep in mind that these players will be re-ranked again after their senior seasons and then a final ranking after the all-American games and camps, so still a lot of hope to be had. But at the moment, the top-10 finish is looking a little less likely than 2 weeks ago.
