Sandwich Thread

Dingdingdingding!!!!

if you are ever in Arlington va, the Italian store makes a hella muffuletta but you have to ask for it.
Isn’t the Italian Store owned by the parents of Sandra Bullock? They do know what they’re doing at that place. Used to work near George Mason Law School so went there all the time

Not owned by her parents but she frequented it as a w-l alum from the area. It is owned
by the tramontes, who also owned the bayou once upon a time. There is a great documentary on the bayou btw.

Italian store is indeed top notch on all fronts. I usually get my dough there when I make deep dish.

I'm not sure this qualifies, but here I go. Bread, American cheese, tomato and bacon. I use your everyday presliced white bread. Slice the tomato. Cook bacon and break up into pieces. Put cheese on a slice of bread, add tomato and bacon on top. Add other slice of bread. Put in broiler to melt cheese and toast bread.

I used to make a club sandwich to die for. On the bottom slice: peanut butter, on the top slice: peanut butter; on the middle slice: grape jelly on one side, marshmellow creme on the other. Oh, the bread has to be toast. Of course, my wife would have a stroke if I ever brought home marshmellow creme, so it's just a wonderful memory.

Faicco's on Bleecker St. in Manhattan, where I usually get a hero with prosciutto de parma, fresh mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes, oil and vinegar. Costs about $13 but extremely worth it. If you're a couple it's better to share one because they're big and dense.

There used to be a place near Little Italy that was as good as Faicco's but that closed awhile ago.

Pic below is from Faicco's and similar looking to (but not exactly) the sandwich I describe above.

I hear that bleecker st. does good pie too.:)

I'm just an old hillbilly that enjoys the simplest things in life. I ate an Arbys ham and cheese market fresh sandwhich and thought it was the best sammich I ever had..

P
Turkey, Ham, pepper jack, Bacon, avocado, mayo, mustard, olives, lettuce, onions, black olives, oil & vinegar, salt & pepper...bread infused with cheese (Parmesan Rosemary at Jersey Mikes)...

alrifgt, what does that say about me?

Must you people on the west coast put avocados on Everything? When I see the container in the sandwich shop, it appears as ground up grasshoppers.

I see that other piece of bread. I assume you put it on top of this.

I'll bite, though. Wtf is on this thing? Or did you just google an open-faced sandwich to be contrarian.

I enjoy your existence on here, jammen. Every great character needs a foil.

Lutefisk sandwich would explain a lot of things.

OT to sandwiches, but noteworthy for anyone with time on their hands and dabbling with cooking. The article is a subset of Michelin star chef recipes available for free -- all you have to do is follow Michelin Guide on Instagram.

Well, to be fair, he had it coming I’m sure. The pope mobile is an easy target - high profile and slow. Like chucking snowballs at the school bus back in the day

Back in the day?

Arbys Brisket or even Porkbelly with the FF onions and gouda.
Damn they are WAYYYY overdue for these.

.

I don’t know what to say...fresh avocados are just good! Ground grasshopper avocado maybe not so much...

this thread is making me really want to try some new sandwiches though!

Ji-ro or Year-o?? and didnt the Gyro start off as a lamb sandwich? Now you can get them with just bout any meat.

Store made: Valenti’s in Orwigsburg, PA. Fresh roasted turkey with bacon, lettuce and mayo on a fresh baked Italian roll.

Home made: My specialty is a Rachel... Turkey, bacon, cheddar horseradish cheese, coleslaw, on Italian, thrown on a panini press for about 3 minutes.

Not my favorite but maybe my most unique sandwich. My uncle around 20 years ago made lunch. Spam and pork n bean sandwiches

Yes! And if the place doesn't put feta on it, they are shorting you.

The Lebanese alternative -- shawarma with tahini -- also very good.
Agree with everything then. Basically if you cook meat on a spit with spices it turns out well. See: Al pastor tacos.

Also arepas -- pernil, carne mechada, peluda, pollo guisado, chorizo, jamon y queso ...

I miss the Venezuelan place in Harrisburg (RIP), and don't get to Sazon in Philly nearly enough.

I will say, there is a certain irony to some of these sandwiches being mentioned on a message board for a sport in which weight control is paramount.

Call it irony, but there are few people who appreciate tasty food as much as wrestlers and ex-wrestlers. Something about being really hungry for periods of time while others can eat.

OIP is a local chain, but some make bread better than others. Try the New Chicken Sandwich at the Burnham OIP (Original Italian Pizza). The bread they make sets it apart.

Lebanese = food of the Gods.

I want to travel there - banditry in the Bekaa valley or not - just to eat the food

Club sandwiches, not seals.

A place in Hummelstown called Hoageez makes a fantastic sub. The veggies they use are sliced paper thin. They use a sharp provolone and get their bread from Philly each morning. They usually run out by 1:00 each day.

I concur. Hands down, the best rolls. Their hard roll is perfectly crusty while the inside is soft as a cloud. Best sub I ever had.

A Montoursville institution! Are they still in operation?
I hope they are still open across Broad Street from Callahan's Antiques. I am planning on a large Italian sub in June. I don't know for certain, but I'd like to think their subs played a small part in the wrestling team's 2nd place finish at States. I do know that back in the day Cellini subs made it very difficult to make weight.

Hoagie not sub.

We invented it. We get to name it

As a further aside, it’s a Cheesesteak, not a Steak and Cheese.

I say this while wearing my new “ Philadelphia against the world” t shirt

Whatever Sandwich you choose......have a side of Middlesworth Kettle Cooked BBQ Chips. Also the new Ruffles Double Crunch Zesty Cheddar Chips are a great alternative. Don't put them on the sandwich. They might get soggy …….but mostly you need to control the chip-to-Sandwich Bite Ratio. PS: be careful with the Double Crunch or the roof of your mouth might feel like you just chowed on Captain Crunch :).

Non-meat sandwich? I'll go with a good Tuna Salad, shredded American, shredded Cheddar, Ranch dressing to suit along with some salted Sunflour seeds. Your choice of bread.....Lettuce is optional

You all are sleeping on two of my old school standbys: a medium rare Patty Melt and a BLT

But if you ask a wrestler what their favorite sandwich is after weigh-ins, the correct answer is the first one handed to them. Those that cut a lot of weight like I did know exactly what I'm talking about. There is a reason why former wrestler are obsessed about food ...

When I go visit family in North Carolina, I love the barbecue joints there. I'm really craving a Lexington style barbecue sandwhich topped with the barbecue slaw. Good eatins right there ya'll....
There is a fantastic Carolina style BBQ joint just outside Williamsburg, Va and just off I64. Pierce’s. If you’re ever going to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens or Va beach area, it’s a must stop.

Amazing pulled pork sandwich and the hush puppies are godlike. Periodic board visitor and hall of fame wrestling maven @JasonBryant vouches for them as well
