Sandwich Thread

Endless fresh (still warm) tortilla chips, a delicious handmade salsa or 4.
Chicken Enchiladas smothered in Hatch Green Chili
Blackberry Sorbet
An Old Fashioned with good Rye (Whistlepig?), just a smidge of fruit juice (no sugar), and good bitters.

Not worthy of a new thread but lets try THIS

Electric Chair Meal:

App
Main course
Dessert
Beverage

Whatcha takin with ya?

My take:

The App served by the hula hoop girl

The main course a young Liz Hurley (I mean served by)

Dessert served by Scarlett Johansson

Beverages served by the girls of Arizona State

By that time, the old heart is racing worse than it does at an Iowa dual and lights out.

The guy who usually pulls the switch can go home to the family early. And hey, a last wish is a last wish.

There is a fantastic Carolina style BBQ joint just outside Williamsburg, Va and just off I64. Pierce’s. If you’re ever going to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens or Va beach area, it’s a must stop.

Amazing pulled pork sandwich and the hush puppies are godlike. Periodic board visitor and hall of fame wrestling maven @JasonBryant vouches for them as well

Yes! Went to grad school at W&M and we used to eat at this place all the time back when it was a hole in the wall and unknown. Love it. Stopped there with the family about a year ago when heading down 64.

I have a coffee table book called "Their last meals". It covers famous people and covers their lives a little and explains what their last meal was in detail. It then provides the courses of the meal and then gives the recipe to make the dishes. A very unique book and very useful if you are a foodie.

Very interesting. You drove me straight to Amazon. There are 2 books that are close. One is "Their Last Supper". This has famous people's last meal with stories behind it such as Adolph Hitler, Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, etc...
The other is 50 great chefs playing the game we were playing here. It is titled "My Last Supper". It includes photos and recipes. This sounds very cool. But there are only used books listed. Probably too far out of print, but it is a great concept. Apparently there was a part 2 done. Now I'm on a mission!

Here is the book I am referring to by Andrew Caldwell who is a chef. I found the book at Ollie's of all places.

Well, the picture of the cover did not show up but The book title is "Their Last Suppers, Legends of History and Their Final Meals" by Andrew Caldwell. The book is well done and informative.

Blech. Vinegar is not bbq sauce. But if you want to try a really good and a little different bbq, head to the blue ridge pig in nellysford, va.
It's all in a persons taste I guess. For me its Carolina BBQ. I've had different styles from all over the country and l enjoyed most of it though.

Faicco's on Bleecker St. in Manhattan, where I usually get a hero with prosciutto de parma, fresh mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes, oil and vinegar. Costs about $13 but extremely worth it. If you're a couple it's better to share one because they're big and dense.

There used to be a place near Little Italy that was as good as Faicco's but that closed awhile ago.

Pic below is from Faicco's and similar looking to (but not exactly) the sandwich I describe above.

I go to Faicco’s for the pepperoni bread. Gotta try one of these sammies

Not sure what Carolina BBQ is. There are at least 3 sauce styles in the Carolinas with their own local variations: tomato-based, vinegar-based, and mustard-based. I like tomato or vinegar-based BBQ with the best vinegar-based being in eastern NC. Mustard-based is primarily found in central SC. Tomato-based is found all over. My all time favorite though is Western PA sauce, particularly that found in places in the upper Mon Valley area.

One basic point: Carolina BBQ is primarily pork, either sliced or chopped. Yes, there are different sauces styles.

Texas BBQ is primarily brisket with plenty of ribs and sausages, and Kansas City BBQ is a wide variety of meats. Each region can have additional variety and opinions vary over the best.

You are correct. I should have said Lexington style BBQ to be more precise. I helped coach the Lexington JR high football team back in late 90s and about that time I became addicted. It was a quick meal to grab on my way from my job working for the City of High Point to the practice fields. They have a great BBQ festival in Lexington every year. If anyone is near there when they have it I'd recommend you stop in.

Have a lot of family there my brother used to work at Thomasville furniture way back in the day. My cousin has actually won awards for his barbeque brisket at the annual barbeque festival.

My dads side of family all live in Kernersville..smack dad in the middle of the triad ( Winston Salem-Greensburg-HighPoint) Its where I lived for about 10 years when I moved there in my early 20s. I love it there and good chance I'll retire down there. Know Thomasville and Thomasville furniture well. That area sure is crazy about its furniture. Have you ever been there for the furniture markets in High Point? Crazy how many buyers from all over the world cram into that place for those things. They have a fall and spring market. I would use my vacation from my city job, rent out a lot from a local business and sell spots and park cars all week. No shit, my best week was a little over 8 grand doing that. After giving the business owner his customary 50 percent cut, I was still sitting pretty. Lol Doing that twice a year was a nice little windfall for me.

Somebody here might be able to help me. I did some work for the Juniata College.....Astronomy/Science Dept. years ago. We ordered take-out from someplace in Huntington. I had the absolute best "Sandwich" I ever had......it was a Calzone..….I believe it was called a Pizza Steak Calzone. 10/10. Took me 2 days to finish it. I have no idea where it came from but this thread has made me want to find out. Any Huntington Calzone fans that can help me out? Assuming they are still open.....this was 15+ years ago.

Sportfan, could it be Original Italian Pizza at 628 Washington St in Huntingdon? I just did a quick search on Google Map and it seems this place has been around a long time.

Sportfan: maybe Paesano's Italian Restaurant in Alexandria? Seems they, too, have been around awhile. Their menu (https://www.menupix.com/menudirectory/menu.php?id=3817604) has a Pizza Steak Sub as well as a Cheese Steak Stromboli. No calzones, though.
I'll stop looking now. (I'm a retired researcher and I miss my job!)

I'd guess you're are correct, they always had ridiculously huge stromboli's, I can't remember calzones though . Back in the day, there were 2 OIP's in Huntingdon. The other one was on Rt 22 across the road from KFC but it wasn't as good as the one in town.
