Imagine if he had a line to block for him. He would break every RB record in the book.
And both Dickerson and James won the ROY award....if Barkley doesn’t, it’s a joke.
It wouldn’t surprise me, but it would make the award a bigger joke than it already is.
Mayfield was impressive this season, but Barkley deserves it far more than Mayfield. The guy is super human and accomplished so much with a terrible o-line and a qb on the back end of the back end of his career.
When he’s matching or exceeding the best RB’s in the history of the game, he deserves the ROY. It’s not like he’s just a good RB on a bad team. He’s putting up Dickerson and James numbers. He’s also in the top 5 for most receptions by a rookie all time and he’s the only RB on the list....he’s out catching some of the best receivers of all time in their rookie years. It’s ridiculous what he’s done this year.
If the Giants come to FL next year, I want to see him play. Only Jacksonville sells out on occasion. I’m within 120 miles to the Jags and Bucs.
Mayfield just set the rookie TD record. Love Saquon, but I think Mayfield will win ROY. Plus Browns were a joke and he single handily almost gave them a winning record.
Single handedly? Really? They’ve improved their roster by a ton, not just Mayfield.
Well, they tied the Steelers and hung with the Saints without him, so who knows. It certainly wouldn’t have been 0-16 like the year before. They may have been better with a better QB than Mayfield, but we can’t know that.
They wouldn’t have come close to 7 wins. The fact he broke a rookie record is pretty sure it’s his award.

Barkley broke a few rookie records plus he was one of the top RB’s in the league overall, not just for rookies. Barkley, Elliott and Gurley were the top three RB’s in the NFL....I don’t think Mayfield is in the top three QB’s. Barkley’s number compare with the best in the league, not just rookies. He’s on a different level than Mayfield.
Maybe Lamar Jackson would have done better....my point is, there’s no way of knowing.
Why? The previous 2 guys who had the record did not win ROY. Randy Moss won it instead of Manning and RGIII won it instead of Russell Wilson. Marino also won it over Eric Dickerson in 1983. Marino should not have won it over Dickerson but I think the voters went with the his TD total to justify it. It could go either way. Every Giants game I hear "Giants made the right decision. They picked the best player in the draft and the best rookie this year". People are beginning to think that Lamar Jackson is the best rookie QB this year. I think this is coming from Baltimore and people that don't like Mayfield's antics. Jackson is 6-1 as a starter and the Ravens are in the playoffs because of Jackson. Mayfield is 6-7 as a starter and a win off the bench.

I’m a ravens fan and I don’t think Jackson is the best rookie QB. The fan base is split. Personally I think they’ve caught lightning in a bottle with him this season but it isn’t sustainable long term. He can’t consistently win with his arm, he’s an absolute fumble machine in ways that make miles sanders look like the epitome of ball security and he takes too many hits to count on him being healthy over the long run. They could make a run with him in the playoffs but Ill be surprised if he’s the starting QB 2 or 3 years down the road.

I agree with almost all you stated, but I think he has a good arm. His throwing fundamentals are wacky and need to be fixed, but that doesn’t always work out. The ball controll can be fixed.
He had 25 fumbles in 3 seasons in college. He’s got 11 this season. Something is fundamentally wrong (small hands?) and he hasn’t fixed it in 4 years.
You could also say With Mayfield the Browns beat the Saints and possibly Steelers opening day.
The kid won 7 games after the team won 0 last year. He won 4 of last 5, set rookie TD record.
Barkley will have a better career, but for ROY on numbers and how team improved I’ll take Mayfield. Especially since they started 0-3-1?with Taylor as QB.
Is he better than Brady? How about Rodgers? How about Mahomes? Brees? Roethlisberger? Trubisky? Luck? Rivers? Ryan? Goff? Wilson? Wentz? Watson? Cousins? Prescott? Newton? Mariota? So that puts him quite a bit out of the top 3.
Mayfield hardly did it all himself. The Browns have done a great job improving their roster. This is not the same team that went 0-16 with just Mayfield added. I think ROY should go to the best rookie....which is clearly Barkley and it’s not even close. Barkely would be in the conversation for MVP from the RB position, so I would say that makes him ROY. Barkley also made the Pro Bowl. Many are saying Barkley is the best RB in the league (not just rookies)...no one is saying that about Mayfield. The only way Mayfield wins the award is if they compare Mayfield to only rookie QB’s and Barkley to all RB’s, not just rookies.
