"See what a blocked Field Goal

Lets not get ahead of ourselves. You may think it is corny that Coach Franklin says each week that the team is looking to go 1 and 0. They only thing PSU can do is play the games each week as they come. Can't worry about a game weeks from now if you don't win this week.
WHAT the ......?

Heard Robert Smith exclaiming how one play, a blocked field goal, has potentially changed the course of the college football playoff landscape this season......just to play Devil's advocate, if Robert is correct, how much weight can be placed upon a poorly officiated game?.....all things being equal...makes one rethink the old adage that officiating should not affect the outcome of a game.

The "chunk" plays maker it easy for critics to claim PSU is "lucky" despite the fact that the team is consistently and increasingly seeming to make those "chunk" plays. As the team improves in 3rd down efficiency and ball control offense, the "appearance" of dominating the opponent rather than being "lucky" will become more apparent.

A number of you people in this thread have incredibly thin skins. A national writer and author asked me about Penn State today and I referenced that exact Herbie quote as a positive. Let's say the FG doesn't get blocked and returned for a TD and it goes thru the uprights. PSU is now down 7 and has 4 minutes to get down the field to tie the game. Maybe they do it, maybe they don't. If they don't, it's yet another loss to a big team and maybe that emotion carries over to a flat effort against Purdue and who knows what with Iowa and Indiana. Instead, they get the block, the atmosphere at the Beav skryrockets 100-fold and now the defense is extra-energized to finish off the game, which they do. Now this team has beaten a top-ranked opponent and all of that success tells them that no matter how far down they get, they can come back from it. It's something a PSU team hasn't had in a few seasons, certainly not when the vast majority of the players on the roster have been on campus. And now they've won 3 more in a row in 3 different ways and are riding this big crest.

When the 2016 Penn State season's novel is written, that blocked FG return for the score will be the fuse that lit the TNT that has detonated into what we've seen so far and that hopefully leads to 2 more regular season wins.
