Shane Grifith?

If Cael can improve the lineup, he will bring in whatever wrestler is necessary to do that. It comes down to how to fit the team into the 9.9. Cael had Seth at 285, blue chip recruit, probably would have been a round of 12 guy or low AA this year. Kerkvleit became available and he is now a AA at PSU knocking Seth out of the lineup.

Cael is extremely competitive.
Have we explored a Penn State Altoona D1 wrestling program? /s

Post on Rutgers board that Griffith has top 3 of Penn State, North Carolina, and Michigan. No sources given.

Poster seems pretty reputable, Gold Member and posting since 2004. It adds up to some other narratives.

Edit: Found the source.

On FRL this morning, Pyles said the rumor at Trials was that Griffith is down to Michigan or NC and that he has eliminated PSU because he wants to go 174

Willie said the same thing about 174 right after NCAA's. I think it's legit. He started at 174 this past year and has wrestled up at 79 kg a couple years ago too (lost to Brooks in the finals at that tournament).

I can tell you from another source there might be big changes in the PSU line up at 157, 165, and even 197 if some of the things work out that have been discussed. There are a few alpha moves in the works that may not come to fruition, but if they do, look out. There could be more than a few shockwaves in college wrestling in the next several weeks
I could see 157...with all the injuries Berge has endured, does he hang it up?

165...I don't see it. At least not after this year, as screwed up as it was. Yes, I know Cael wasn't happy with Joes performance in NCAAs. There must be a serious disconnect between Joe and Cael if a transfer is brought in as a starter.

197...No way I see a big name transfer coming in. Beard already used his red shirt right? Plus he was an AA. So you would look at guys who placed higher than Beard that weren't seniors. That's a pretty small list. The more I think about any logic behind this, the more it doesn't make any sense, and I'll call BS on this one.

I remember when we got Aaron his dad saying he could see him at 197 eventually. Always kept that in the back of my mind. The only way I could see Griffith coming to PSU is if Starocci and Brooks were ready to move up now which in my opinion is highly highly doubtful.

Cael did replace Seth, whom would have prolly r12-low AA, with Kert... so there’s a chance but it doesn’t make sense to replace a young AA at 197... agreed, would make a lot more sense to bring in some help at 157 or 125 even.

Shane is already a very big 165#er. Zero chance he’d cut to 157 IMHO.

I could see 125 and let Howard red shirt.

The best case is for help at 157, but there seems to be a bit of a log jam at 149, do I could see someone like Barraclaugh(sp?) moving up if needed.

Cael will do whatever has to be done to strengthen the lineup next year to knock off Iowa, if at all possible. Question is getting the right pieces.

Pretty obviously where we can improve:

We got 4.5 points from 4 weights:
125 - 1.5
157 - 3 (before injury)
149 and 165 - 0

149 and 165 solutions seem straight forward (assuming no transfer). Can Joe get out of his own way? Is Van Ness good enough to come podium as a true freshman? 125 actually gets tougher with Vito and Glory coming back in the mix but what kind of jump can Howard make? He was there with Lamont this year. Will Brady be the same coming back from injury (will he come back at all next season, I think that's a legitimate concern with how bad the injury looked)

Iowa also outbonused us by 10 points:
Iowa - 27
Penn State - 17

This one I think bugs Cael more. Props to Iowa here for sure. Cael is definitely going to be pushing RBY, Carter, Brooks to evolve and push the pace more, they scored 2.5, 1 and 1 bonus points respectively. I am NOT taking away from how awesome it is that they finished on the top of the podium but I think Cael will want them taking that next step. Kerkvliet led us with 4.5 bonus so even Nick has room to improve there. I think Cael will be pushing for him to become what Zain was at his apex next year. (7-8 bonus points at NCAAs always)

Michael and Kerk surpassing their Iowa counterparts would be huge as well. Kerkvliet absolutely has the talent but has to improve on the mat. Michael needs much improved lungs (and hone his defensive skills)

Keep in mind, Iowa has areas to tack on points as well.

I had mentioned awhile ago that I thought after next year you see Brooks and Starocci move up to 184/197. It makes sense for both to grow into 86kg guys. Griffith does want to go 174 and I'm hearing Michigan looks like his landing spot. They also have the upper hand on Woods.

Has this program had many transfers? Long, Conel, Keener, and then I draw a blank.

Darmstadt would be fun in the PSU room (combining this with a mention of 197 in another thread). Obviously Carr and Griffith would be 157 & 165 names.
Griffith has announced that he will be bumping up to 174----no room at the PSU Inn for him at that weight----There seems to be a Michigan lean now.

Don't forget this. Anytime this clown tweets in favor of PSU its practically the kiss of death.

Has Kem announced yet? If they lose him, they wont be “tacking on points”

Kennedy isn’t too bad, and the lack of a Bull AA this year definitely hurt their score. Who know, maybe he figures out the tourney next year and wins it. He’s certainly good enough. Desanto also wasn’t quite his usual bonus machine. I still think we’re the favorites, but it could be a close race.

Desanto scored 19.5 points. As far as I can tell, he was the highest scoring non-finalist (tied with McKee). I don't think they can count on much more from him, unless he makes the final.
