Maybe it's just me, but I think the reasons to leave college hoops early differ drastically from the same decisions football players make. The likelihood of a career ending injury in football is much greater, so those guys need to take the cash whenever possible.

I'm of the belief that although hoops players wanna make the fat stacks, they also would love to play in March Madness. I think that is a huge selling point for Tony next year.

Carr can be a huge player on the national scene next year, kinda like Barkley was this past year. This team can play with anyone when Watkins is healthy. Just need to replace Shep next year and hope the noise about Alston transferring is more than that.

He should stay because I want him to!:)

Prefer to keep him, think it is the right call, but if he makes the call to leave, he still made a great impact on PSU

I'm not familiar with the skills of some of the players off the bench. What does Nazeer Bostick bring to the 'table'? Can he be the #2 guard next year if Carr returns?

Not as a starter IMO unless he dramatically improves his jumper this summer.

If Carr returns, I think the options to fill Garner's role include Reaves (whose jumper has improved every year) and the incoming freshman Dread, who I think is going to be really, really good.

I really like a potential starting lineup of Carr/Dread/Reaves/Stevens/Watkins, and I think Carr/Reaves/Stevens/Harrar/Watkins isn't a bad one, either.

I think Dread slides into Shep's slot and the rest stays the same. Harrah, Bostik, and Wheeler provide good depth. Harrah got some good experience and proved more than capable of being a great backup to Watkins as he can rebound the ball very good. Bostik and Wheeler need to imrove their jumper and this can be a top 15 or maybe even top 10 team.

As others have said, Bostic doesn't yet have a jump shot that warrants him a starting spot. He is very athletic, can handle the rock well enough to bring the ball up court and even drive to the basket. He's also a willing and capable defensive player who can guard the 1, 2, or 3 positions. Josh Raves didn't have a polished jumper either when he began starting, but he has improved. I think it might be better to start Dread, surrounded by all of the experienced players and bring Bostic off the bench (along with Wheeler and Harrar). Fingers crossed that Carr comes back, my starting five would be Carr, Dread, Reaves, Stevens, Watkins.

Most mock's have Carr in the mid 2nd round range. It is a tough decision because if you are good enough that a team will use a draft pick on you, you have a great shot at making a team. If he comes back to PSU and plays well enough to help PSU into the NCAAT next year, he can parlay that into a first round pick and more money, however you always have the risks of injury, struggling causing your draft stock to drop, etc.

This is not a clear cut decision either way like, say, Saquon's decision. Me personally I think he is a pretty sure bet that he can play well next year and so I think he should take the chance and return for his junior season and a chance at being a first round/lottery pick in the 2019 draft.

As many have said, he will be a 2nd rounder at best right now. But in all honesty, what second rounders even make the roster is their first year, let alone stay in the NBA that long? He's still very young and has a chance to do special things as a junior.

I don't understand the people saying he needs to work on his jumper, that arc followed by a swish is a thing of beauty :).. He should stay hone his craft, build some more muscle, and work on his inside scoring to be a more complete player.

I love the direction this team is going. Kudos to Pat.

Who is Alston?

I don't understand why people assume returning for another year helps his draft stock. Look at recent drafts. it is very heavy on freshman, sophomores and occasionally international players. Carr comes back next year he's probably still an early-to-mid 2nd and has less development in college than in the G-league. It's a tough call for him. He's got to do what he believes is best.

He will do what is best for him and his family. He will take a looksie from scouts and so forth, and go from there.

History is littered with mid-late second rounders who never caught on with a team and made very little cash in the NBA. Hopefully he gets the right people giving him opinions RE draft status. I think he would be better off playing in college next year, perhaps being an all American type player and moving up the draft board In his junior year.

The NBA spacing will help Carr. I do however think he needs at least one more year to work on the defensive side of his game. While he is a very good offensive player I don’t think he’s accomplished enough yet to run the offense through him and I don’t think he plays defense or off the ball well enough yet to fit on a NBA roster and receive adequate playing time.

Carr is one of those very rare players who shoot at a higher percentage from three than from two. (.433 vs. .395.) I guess that's what they mean.

Luckily the rules for declaring for the NBA draft is different than the NFL. Tony could declare, and, as long as he doesn’t hire an agent, could change his mind (up to a certain point). I wouldn’t fault him for testing the market as to where he would be graded, then making a more informed decision.

I'm a little selfish about it, but I honestly don't think he's ready. He's been playing smarter of late and it shows, but I think he'll be a first rounder if he stays another year.

I've mentioned that a few times and was going to bring it up again.. he can get in the lane but can't finish consistently. I'm just not sure what NBA team wants a guy that is a score first point guard that shoots 40% from the field. For the majority of the season he wasn't finding guys when he got in the paint either. He was fantastic vs Utah the other night getting the defense to collapse and getting other guys easy baskets. Pretty easy strategy to defend him is run him off the 3 pt line and make him shoot in the lane. He's a good college guard who will get mismatches he can take advantage of vs other smaller college guards but the NBA doesn't have small college guards to take advantage of. He makes our team a lot better certainly as long as the ball doesn't get stagnant in his hands. But he has a lot to work on including his finishing ability, his defense and his ability to get others involved. With Reaves, Watkins and Lamar, he could average 10 assists a game and with the way our guys can dunk, it could be a highlight reel season. He should come back and probably play all 4 years.

He was fantastic vs. Utah, except he shot poorly despite being guarded by smaller guards.

Carr has always been a combo guard, neither point guard or shooting guard. I’m not comparing Carr to Steph Curry, but certainly Curry takes a high percentage of outside shots and has a place in the NBA.

From a basketball perspective, I can't see Carr being on an NBA roster next year. But we know there are always non-basketball reasons for trying to rush into a pro career. It'll be a tense couple months between the early entry deadline and the final deadline.
